Before anyone says anything. Yes I did see the trace velo video. That frame may have had a faulty fork. This one hasn't. But you should also note the following. Trifox replaced that fork with no questions asked. When I pointed out a frame that had a 5 inch void down the length of the downtube to OPEN cycle (Kessler, Vroomen and co), they tried to get the video(s) removed and sue me. I have a friend that worked for many years as a quality engineer in the hand tool industry, mostly at Neil tools that own/ed many more well known tool brands, Spear and Jackson and Eclipse to name a couple. He told me many times that when production moved to the far east any samples they were sent were awesome but when they sampled anything from the production run the quality was dogshit, he said they could never seem to get the heat treatment right. They could only reason that they had special departments or places to get the sample made to secure the contract.

It's sad that even basic alignment of the mounting points on the frame can't be assumed on bike frames these days. The real test of the 'budget' Chinese frames is x-raying them for voids though. The next is whether it passes ISO frame durability testing. For stuff sold in the EU, this is one thing that must be done by the manufacturer before they can sell it with EU safety approval. Buying direct from China allows individual buyers to skirt this requirement, but if they want to sell from an EU location or if an importer wants to sell them under another label claiming to be an EU bike brand they'll have to do this.

Just one remark: from the mainstream manufacturers, Hambini only sees the shittiest ones (the ones that get sent to him because the owner has a serious problem), while this can easily be a pre-checked, selected frame which turned out to be the best of the lot. You will never know how much chance you have of getting a faulty frame, and if you don't notice it immediately (as I am pretty sure I wouldn't notice voids until they break, or a 0.1mm off BB until it starts to eat bearings, or 2 degrees deviation from perpendiculat in the geometry), the warranty does not really help.

I like the tri fox and the win space frames for me as a mechanic it makes sense. For some people with less experience the expense of building up a frame at the lsb may not. You have to balance what’s hassle free warranty versus dealing with the manufacturers direct. But it does make the direct sale European reseller model look expensive. Painted or unpainted I’ve faced a lot of disc mounts on a wide range of frames , facing the mounts is the best way I’ve found to eradicate customer brake rub and screech. Personally I’d like a 27.2 mm round post and identify a 3rd party supply of derailleur hangars.

The rubber bit on the seat post may to be cover the wedge/clamp, got something similar on mine
@DrJRMCFC3 жыл бұрын
isn’t that rubber thing for sliding down to cover the gap between the frame and the seat post to stop gunk getting in it and then being really hard to get out in 6 months time. I wish ‘ my friend’s’ Pinarello F8 had one. Very nice little touch.

Looks like Hambini had it upside down. Then it would be obvious. Or maybe it's a test for us to see if we are paying attention and will elect to comment.

It must be really nice for a change to have a frame that has more pluses than negatives.
@marcalvarez48903 жыл бұрын
Its a one off sent by the manufacturer directly to be tested. Of COURSE it's perfect. Its one of a kind. Lets see this test done with a random frame bought 4 months from now. Judging a line of products by testing a specially sent one is ludicrous.

@@marcalvarez4890 good point. I'm still old school. I have more steel frames than carbon ones. Seem alot better made.

I believe you have the rubber bit on the seat post upside down. Looks like it's meant to keep grit out of the wedge being that could create catastrophic failure. Just a thought, much luv Hambini.

3:14 This is to maybe crew a clamp inside the frame to hold in place the hydraulic line for the rear brake. Otherwise it can rattle in the frame on rough roads. 6:30 it look to be a a seatpost clamp cover so the water and dirt does't there. It's upside down and front-rear reversed. (it looks the seatpost section is double symetric)

I don’t question that’s an excellent frame, what I worry is the consistency of the quality when they start making thousands of those. Again, I don’t hate it, but it needs more than just one good frame to gain my trust.

Hello Hambini! What measuring tools do you use in measuring the angles in the bike frame (e.g. from center of rear axle to seatpost)?

At 13:30 - there's seems to be problem with plane alignment of left and right hole for bottom bracket? Are those parallel to each other, or there's a problem with concentric alignment?
@cup_and_cone3 жыл бұрын
6:22 - Just a guess, but maybe that's a rain guard to keep water from dripping down the post/clamp and into the frame? I believe you have it upside-down and backwards, it would slide down over the seat clamp.

Was there any float in the head tube? I've had to epoxy bearings to get rid of excessive play which preload alone couldn't correct.

Yo . I'm thinking of buying the rim break version of this frame . I currently own a ribble r872 that I bought on ebay for 600 pounds when I got it home the carbon need repairing and it's been a great bike over lockdowns . I'm now wanting to upgrade after taking it to the point where it's as good as it's going to get . My question is it a wise choice to buy the tri fox frame and more my running gear over to it or . Splash out 3500 on a second hand di2 trek madone?

What have I learned from this video - you can make your bike cheaper by not having a marketing team
@cjohnson38363 жыл бұрын
Consumer cost is all marketing. Marketing team determines a profit margin and price point, engineering designs to meet that goal. Consumer price and production costs are completely divorced.

I am wondering about the Seraph frames as they use EPS construction. Would that help that frame have fewer voids and a better resin to fiber ratio? I am looking for a Chinese frame now. Thanks

2 of my bikes have carbon frames and after watching many of these type of videos, I always sh*t myself tearing down a hill at 40mph wondering if I'll ever see my family again. When I do the same on my steel and aluminium frames I never think of anything other than the next cafe. Justified or not, just this anxiety is enough for me never to buy carbon again.

06:22 could be to keep the seat post base extra water-tight? Keep rain etc from seeping in 🤷🏻♂️ just a guess

Thanks for the quick overview. Have you had any experience with TriFox frames that weren’t sent to you? Ferrari, Mercedes, and a few other manufacturers were known to devote special “attention” to press cars in order to garner positive media reviews prior to launch. This even extended to the occasional mechanical upgrade otherwise unavailable in the cars purchased by the general public, with the media and public both typically none the wiser. It’s great to know that TriFox’s best is very good indeed, but I’d like to know that the same quality is accessible to non-five-year-olds who put up their own money.

10 Years ago high prices for branded carbon bikes could have been justified. Now, when the Chinese no name industry has advanced and is on par with the branded names why overpaying for a brand? Not rational at all. I feel downright fool for paying 5k to Pinarello. 1000k is for the frame and the rest 4 is for marketing.

love the videos, long time viewer first time asking a question. is it possible to check the actual quality of the carbon compared to other brands (regardless of voids), ie how do you know the chances of it randomly break in half while bombing down a big hill compared to other brands, as isn't that often the worry with cheap carbon? thanks

Trifox know your reputation so would only send you a perfect frame to test. For a true test you should acquire one of their frames anonymously and test that one to the same standard you tested this one. Then we can see if it is really a great frame.
