Hamburger Steak with Onions and Mushroom Gravy
1 Pound ground beef
1 Egg beaten
1/4 Cup breadcrumbs
1/4 Cup Parmesan cheese (optional)
1-2 Cloves garlic minced
Salt & Pepper to taste
1 Teaspoon onion powder
1 Teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 Tablespoon all-purpose flour
Vegetable oil
1 Medium onion sliced thinly
8 oz. Mushrooms sliced
2 Cups beef stock or broth
Salt & Pepper to taste
Mix together the beef, egg, breadcrumbs, parmesan cheese, and Worcestershire sauce. Add extra breadcrumbs if it needs it to bind well. Form patties and flatten as thin as you’d like and dip very lightly in flour. Heat the oil in a skillet, and cook the patties until browned. Remove to a plate.
Add the sliced onions and mushrooms to the skillet, and cook until onions are translucent. Add the flour to the onions and mushrooms, and mix, then blend in the beef broth, craping the pan to get all the brown bits off the bottom. Cook, stirring occasionally, over low heat until thickened.
Add the patties back into the pan with the gravy, and simmer until cooked through.
Serve over mashed potatoes, rice or egg noodles.
