My favorite Ham Radio KZbin channel. No nonsense, stuttering, irritating advertising…just the facts (Jack Webb would appreciate that for sure). I learn good stuff watching each of your posts. Thanks, Tom.

I've read that the 7100 supports up a 32 GB SD card. I had a spare and installed it, and it formatted OK. Thank you so much for this instruction! This is outstanding!! This would also be extremely useful during emergency events, especially when it comes to covering your a$$ regarding legal issues!

Thanks Tom for putting the IC-7100 Video's together. I've been using an IC-706 in My car since 2013 and was Bidding on a IC-7000 and stopped bidding as I was finding trying to find a affordable Separation Cable near impossible, and then came across your Video's on the IC-7100 and watched up to #14 last night. I think I'll look at buying a IC-7100 in the next couple weeks, or in the New Year if Christmas spending gets in the way, but have enjoyed watching and learning from your videos on the IC-7100 and it's settings and features.

Hi Grant. Thanks for the kind words. The IC-706 is still a good radio, but I have found the 7100 makes a great mobile! I was using a Yaesu FT-857 before I got the 7100. The biggest reason I got the 7100 is so I could read the display more easily as my eyes get older. I started squinting too much trying to read the 857 display. The 857 is a fine radio, but the 7100 is much more capable. On separating the head- I believe the Icom manual recommends against this, but a shielded CAT-6 Ethernet straight-thru jumper cable works just fine. Just make sure it is a shielded cable.

Enjoyed this video Tom. Always useful information. You mentioned using a WRC. I would appreciate you sharing how you mounted it and the type of bracket. Thanks. 73

I would like to know as well as I have a WRC and 7100. Never considered using both for mobile.

Thanks a bunch for the very detailed instructions for the 7100. Would you be willing to do a video on your mobile installation? I also have a 7100 and a Ram pickup and would love to get some ideas for installing it for actual mobile use.

I’ve had a couple questions about my mobile setup. It’s nothing special, but maybe I’ll throw together a quick video about it.

Hi Tom , are you going to cover voice memory for setting up for like fieldday or contesting to play prerecorded call sign or calling CQ?
@HamRadioA2Z2 жыл бұрын
Hi Coy. I probably will do one specifically for the 7100. I did do a video on the voice memories for the 7300 a while back. The menu options and operation are nearly identical on the 7100. Here’s a link to the 7300 video: Icom IC7300 A to Z #21 Voice Recorder Settings & Voice Transmit Memories kzbin.info/www/bejne/pYOVd2mrmqucask

Nice video - very helpful for mobile use and the listening to the files helped a lot as I use my IC 705 for POTA/SOTA activations, and now that I learned to add those two columns, it will be easier now to figure where the actual QSO's were found. Curious what the mount is you're using on the dash for the 7100. 73
@HamRadioA2Z3 жыл бұрын
Hi Scott. Thanks for the kind words. Excellent point on the 705. The recording function on it is essentially identical to the 7100. So it will work great to help with logging 705 portable or mobile operations. The mount for the 7100 is a RAM mount. They have a variety of different adapters, including 1/4-20 mounts that will fit the bottom of the 7100 head. I’m using the 1” ball versions.

@@HamRadioA2Z I will have to check out the RAM mount. Seems like it sat very solid on your road trip to the hamfest. Like you, I have the 705, 7100 and 7300. I've learned a lot from your A2Z series for all the radios! 73 KN3A.

On the 7300 my TX is 10 times louder during playback than the RX. It is blasting loud so i turn it to RX record only.

I do like your videos. So I have to say...that looks as bad as texting while driving. Be careful!

Thanks. I appreciate your concern. I always prioritize driving and paying attention to the road ahead of the radio.

Hi Tom can you adjust the recording level from the reciever onto the card? mine seems a bit low, not sure if the volume effects it..Fred g4vvq.
@HamRadioA2Z Жыл бұрын
Hi Fred. There is no way to adjust it that I know of. The audio gain knob definitely does not affect it. In my use case, I don’t often listen to the playback on the radio. I usually take the SD card out and play the recordings on my laptop.
@fredshead3956 Жыл бұрын
@@HamRadioA2Z Hi Tom, i do that as well, but i just thought it could be abit louder, its ok but when i put it in the sound editor it looks aboit low and i increase the volume there, but its not quite the same hi..cheers f

I'm so glad that I've found this video. I've been logging with a smartphone and that's been fine when stationary. But, when driving, logging has been challenging. I knew the 7100 could do this but I just didn't know how to use it to my advantage. Thanks. WE2DX/M
