Thanks Tom you're saving me HOURS of goofing around, messing things up not knowing what I'm doing with my new tech license and new IC-7100 radio. Gotta get that General so I can hook up an HF antenna and start surfing those longer waves!

This message is for whoever thought it was necessary to leave a thumbs down. This man is taking a lot of time to present us with information, that as someone studying to take my technician and general exams at the end of the month, find incredibly useful. I was searching for a first radio that was both entry level and able to take care of all the frequencies my new tech and general licenses could use to full advantage. I had settled on the ic 7100 and searched KZbin for info and lo and behold I found this set of videos that is literally going to go through every facet of this radio so that I’ll be way ahead of the curve on using my new rig when I get it. To me that’s invaluable information that I never dreamed would be available.. if the guy said something wrong or that you didn’t like, why not just leave a comment? I would think that someone involved in a hobby that is all about communication would engage in dialog than just a knee jerk reaction. I really appreciate the time and effort that’s put into these videos. Thanks!

Tom, great videos! Keep them coming. Are you happy with the 7100? I'm thinking about purchasing. Thanks. Jim

Hi Jim. Thanks for the kind words. I’ve had the 7100 for about 5 years and am very happy with it. I use it primarily as a mobile rig. Sometimes I use it as a portable in the RV. It’s fine as a base radio too, but not as nice as the 7300. Of course if you need 2M & 440 in the same rig then the 7300 doesn’t work.

7100 is an amazing radio, I have had one since 2015 and I'm still learning the radio. It's amazing the the things Icom thought about. Like letting you transmit on the top of the 30m band edge if you are in LSB & in data mode. How did they know that was important.

Is there a screen saver on the 7100 like the one on the 7300
@HamRadioA2Z3 жыл бұрын
Not that I know of. When the radio is on, the screen is on. There is a setting to turn down the backlight.

Is there just one memo pad or one for each band. Wasn’t clear or maybe I missed a comment. Enjoy your videos. 73 .
@HamRadioA2Z4 жыл бұрын
Hi Mike. Thanks for the kind words. It’s a good question and I didn’t really say directly. There are just 5 or 10 MemoPad memories, total. Watch the one segment right after I set the number to 10, (about 8:20 into the video). You’ll see that there are frequencies from 40, 20 and 15 meters stored in the memories. So, the same memories work across all bands.

Does the mpad erase when you power off the radio?
@HamRadioA2ZАй бұрын
No. The MPAD memories stay. The oldest ones just get overwritten when you save a new frequency.
