TY It is much nicer when you use that pointer rather than your hand to show just where you are clicking. I am new to Radio and just bought this as a first radio. I have to admit, right now my head is spinning with all the things this radio can do. I am going to stay with it till the end, then go back and watch the ones I really need over again. Thanks for the detail and the pace. Joe KK3JOE

I discovered today that CI-V Echo Back has to be on to use the Icom remote control withe a server PC. For example laptop to server pc to radio. It might need echo back because it uses UDP which does not have a way to tell if a message has been received or read. If you bought the Rs-BA1 software you may have figured this out as this video is a few years old. I’ve enjoyed and learned from your other videos, thanks!

Thank you so much for all the time and effort you put into this series - you did an excellent job with the details. I have subscribed to your channel, so I’ll definitely be back when I get the radio. Great video with terrific explanations. I am using DX Lab software with my 7300 and have an amplifier that I want to connect also. It appears that I can unlink the remote connection and USB connection and control both the radio and the amplifier without having one interfere with the other. Is that correct?

Great video but I have a question (I might have missed it): If you have both a USB cable (connected to the USB port) and a CI-V cable (to the remote jack) both connected at the same time, how do you tell the 7300 to use the remote jack for rig control and the USB for data in and out? (In other words, how does the 7300 know which to use)?
@HamRadioA2Z
@HamRadioA2Z 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Jonathan. The short answer is that you don’t really have to tell it, in most cases. I assume by “data” in and out, you mean for digital modes. When you connect your 7300 via USB to your PC, two separate, virtual devices are created on your PC. Audio for digital data modes comes through a USB sound card and CI-V data goes through a virtual COM port. The 7300 can accept remote control CI-V commands through both the USB connection and the remote Jack if you have something connected to both of them. There are a bunch of settings under Settings-Connectors to control how the USB comm port behaves. It can be tied to the remote port, or separated to operate independently. There are also settings to send decoded RTTY data out over the USB serial port when the built in RTTY decoding is enabled. 73, Tom

Great video Tom, I looked this video up again as I am starting a new project to investigate being able to control the IC7300 from a SmartPhone or Tablet with a suitable user interface. Not entirely sure if this is possible as there is no WiFi on the 7300, but I'll try out using a Mac/Pc as the intermediary device via a web page.

Hi. Depending on how much you want to do yourself, I suggest you check out the RigPi. This is a complete web based rig controller based on the Rapberry Pi. MFJ sells a complete unit, the MFJ-1234. The entire project is open source. So you can also build your own, if you like. Check out their website: rigpi.net/

Also, when using the IC7300 on a Mac with CubicSDR and a Panadapter, the CI-V USB Echo Back needs to be set to ON if you wish to control the rig from CubicSDR. GW3JVB

I'd recommend the use of a soft tipped touchscreen stylus rather than the hard metal tip of the pen you've started using to avoid scratching or otherwise damaging the 7300 touchscreen. Whilst they are one of the cheapest parts to replace, the touchscreens are also the most common things to fail and also one of the most delicate.
@HamRadioA2Z
@HamRadioA2Z 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Mark. The stylus that I’m using is a combination pen/stylus. The end touching the screen does have a rubber tip.

Tom - I looked for the RigPi image which you mentioned is Open Source, but can't seem to locate it. I did see a link on the MFJ page but the image there appears to cost $29.95. Do you happen to know where the open source version is available from please? Thank. GW3JVB

Hi.I don’t have any direct experience with RigPi. I just know what I’ve seen in ads and reviews. I did do some digging and went to the RigPi GitHub repository. It looks like Howard Nurse (W6HN) created the repository several years ago, but the only thing uploaded is the license file and some description file. There are some nasty comments about MFJ and a reply from Howard on the site. You can read all that at GitHub, if you care to. It appears that the software is licensed as open source, but the only place you can currently get it is from MFJ for the $29.95 download price. As near as I can tell, once you buy it you are free to distribute it as long as all of the license and attribution information stays with the bundle. So maybe you can find somebody out there who has posted the code someplace. I didn’t try to look for other possible sources.

Hi Helene. I’m sorry you’re having trouble. My understanding is that MAC computers are pretty good at recognizing the USB connection to Icom radios. Unfortunately, I have no direct experience with MACs. There is a MAC/OS-X forum on QRZ where you might find some answers. You can find that here: forums.qrz.com/index.php?forums/mac-ham-radio-on-macos-ios.109/. Good luck.

@HamRadioA2Z
@HamRadioA2Z 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Mark. I’m afraid I don’t have any experience with RS-BA1. I’ve been thinking about getting it and doing a couple videos on it as well. I guess I’ll have to break down and get a copy. On your particular problem. Can you provide a little more detail? When you connect it, does it 7300 key and stay in transmit? Or does it just key up momentarily and go back to receive? When I connect FLDigi/FLRig my 7300 keys up a couple of times, briefly while FLRig sends its initialization commands to the radio. My 7100 does the same thing. Even if I can’t answer your question, maybe another viewer will see the comment and can help.

@@HamRadioA2Z I have seen some used the IC-746 Pro settings, as the IC-7300 is not listed on the CAT/PTT Menu. With interface box, the transmit tab on EasyPal send the image when using the interface box with just sound card settings. Now, with USB cable only, so the radio internal sound card, even when properly set, also in the CAT/PTT menu, there is no action or radio PTT command once the EasyPal transmit tab is pushed. I am on 6 meters net weekly, and on FM. All other digital software works fine with the USB cable only, but then not with the interface card, which is just good for the SSTV. Regardless, nice of you to post such videos. Will see if I can get it to work, as I want to free one of the USB ports. Thanks a lot. 73.
@HamRadioA2Z
@HamRadioA2Z 4 жыл бұрын
Okay- Now I understand your question/issue. The interface box you are using is probably doing PTT with a hardware interface to the accessory connector. With the USB interface, it is more typical to use the CAT-PTT function. I am not familiar with your software. So I’ll have to do some more research. In the meantime, you could check to see if EasyPal has a selection for the IC-7100. The 7100 menus and functions are very similar to the 7300 and I believe the transmit command is the same for both. If I find anything more specific, I will reply back.
