Of all the reactors that haven't yet reacted to this show, it's you guys I have wondered about the most. The "reveal" at the end isn't that she's a girl...to the audience. Most people know she's a girl. The other people in the show don't know, so that "reveal" is that there is now someone in the show who knows what the audience knows. Also, it's meant to confirm that she's a girl to any member of the audience that was unsure or confused. It's not really a twist or anything.

7:00 your confusion probably comes from the differences in Bushido and religion. Samurai were expected to follow Bushido, where honor was one of the main tenets. Samurai were allowed to act freely against those who they deemed to dishonor them. However, Shintoism and Buddhism (the two main religions of Japan) both look down on revenge and holding grudges, where the belief is generally that holding onto grudges will not bring you true peace and is therefore unnecessary. Even in the story of the 47 Ronin, the Ronin were all sentenced to death for taking revenge for the master. But because their revenge was done in honor of their master, they were granted honorable death by Seppuku.

@@chrishaven1489 To split (complex, contradictory, somewhat mythologised) hairs, samurai are normally thought of as hereditary military nobility; ronin are samurai without a lord. Mizu is not nobility as far as we know, so she'd be bushi - a warrior. Stories take liberties though, to simplify the storytelling.

Voices if wondering who is who. The blacksmith is voiced by Cary-hiroyuki tagawa who played and voiced Shang Tsung in the classic mortal kombat movie and mk11 game. Also in the series Man in the High Castle. The princess is Brenda Song, who was the rich girl from suite life of zack and Cody and motion capture for The Quarry game. Voice of Mizu the protagonist is Maya Erskine. Rep not rhay big but it’s growing. She will be in the upcoming Mr and mrs smith show with Donald glover. Heiji shindo who works for the white guy is voiced by Randall park. The agent from ant man and wandavision. Also from the show Fresh off the Boat or Asian Jim in The Office. Ringo the one with no hands is voiced by Masi Oka. One of the mains on the shoe Heroes years and he was also in the movie Bullet train that you saw last year. The main who watches over the princess is of course George Takei. If ppl don’t know he is the “oh my!” Voice meme but also voiced a ton of roles and live appearances since he first got known from original Star Trek. And the white guy is Kenneth Branagh, known for the Agatha Christie murder mystery films like murder on printer express, death on the Nile, haunting in Venice and such.

What's so cool about this show is that it flips the otherness of being biracial. From a European/American POV, BES is "other" because they're half Japanese. Here, in isolationist Edo Japan, their whiteness makes them "other." It's such an interesting paradigm shift.

Fun little fact: If you look back at the beginning at Ringo's father's shop, the knife that they have, I believe the same one Mizu uses to cut off Hachi's fingers, is actually one she made with Swordfather, her insignia is on it
