The animation style is brilliant...I love how they used REAL actors & stuntmen for the foundation of the animation. The story is awesome. The acting is fantastic. WAIT THEY USED REAL ACTORS AND STUNT MEN?? NO WONDER IT WAS SO GOOD
@jimmygreer21402 ай бұрын
@Yumiizoom yeah, they actually filmed the stunts & stuff. I'm not sure if they just animated directly over it or if they were drawing that particular frame they were looking at. But they absolutely did film trained martial artists performing what ended up on screen. I absolutely love that animation style. It's extremely realistic but you can also punch things up (turn a basic studio into a beautiful beachside location) & do things with the camera that aren't that practical. I know it's not "strictly" amine but to me it's just so visually appealing.

So happy to see you guys react to this! Mizu quickly became one of my favourite characters in anything every. It's rare to get a character THIS COMPLEX and at odds with themselves and still make it work so beautifully. And on top of that, the show is so visually STUNNING, the writing is phenomenal, like there were bits of dialogue where I had to pause and process just how gorgeous it is written. This is up there as one of my Netflix favourites.

Forging swords still happens, Sir Terry Pratchett forged his own sword when he was knighted, he dug up his own ore, learned to smelt, added a meteorite ore and forged it all by himself. Per UK Knife laws he put it away somewhere safe ofc. Blue Eye Samurai is great, oh so violent too, but a visual spectacle.

That dueling scene at the end of the episode absolutely & totally hooked me onto this series. I just effing love the way that she could predict the outcomes based off of the stance & positioning and what she must do to counter what he intends to do. And then they pay it off by making it short & sweet like most Samurai duels would've been. That was just a chef's kiss moment of storytelling right there. Able to draw out the tension of this moment, give us a little more action, and then pay it off. But also giving us insight into our protagonist...she's so damn good she can predict her opponents moves. Also, fun fact. The showrunner is a storyboard artist and has worked on Game of Thrones in that capacity. Her husband happens to be one of the directors for the GRRMverse. I think he did the episode before The Long Night where Brienne gets knighted and then has done episodes for HotD. And she's done the storyboard work for those episodes. But then took her artistry and storytelling to do this project. And a brilliant project too. One reason I wanted YOU guys specifically to react to this series is because I figured many of you would relate to the story. Being seen as an outsider in your own country/culture....like how ya'll aren't "Indian enough" for your family back home and ya'll aren't "white enough to be American". I felt like ya'll would really enjoy that aspect to this story....along with EVERYTHING about this show being immaculate. I know the showrunner wanted to tell a story like that for having grown up the same way...mixed Asian race in America. Not Asian enough for her extended family. Not white enough to be accepted in America. The soundtrack, the sound design, the animation styles, the direction, the editing, the "set designs" (cause yes, they actually built sets and shot on locations for this series)....god, I'm just drowning in jealousy seeing ya'll get to enjoy this show for the 1st time. It really is THAT good where it's basically mind-blowing stuff.

Dear Suraj, The Samurai Trilogy. Directed by Hiroshi Inagaki. 1954-1956. Slightly dated, but the look, feel, costumes, and story still hold up. It's a biopic about the greatest duelist in Japanese history… Musashi Miyamoto. Don't let your bias against older movies stop you from experiencing great things. I saw this for the first time in 2021. Wish I'd seen the trilogy way sooner. With love, WP

They're not only beautiful, but also incorporate the medium into the storytelling in creative ways that make being a "cartoon" a real asset. These feel fresh and innovative, and it's awesome to have that creativity hand-in-hand with awesome characters and plotlines. Can't wait for the rest of these reactions and (eventually) Season 2.
