Old man helped by race director who dt apply the FIA official regulations, chapter 27.3 : Drivers must make every reasonable effort to use the track at all times and may not leave the track without a justifiable reason. Drivers will be judged to have left the track if no part of the car remains in contact with it and, for the avoidance of doubt, any white lines defining the track edges are considered to be part of the track but the kerbs are not. Should a car leave the track the driver may re-join, however, this may only be done when it is safe to do so and without gaining any lasting advantage. At the absolute discretion of the Race Director a driver may be given the opportunity to give back the whole of any advantage he gained by leaving the track.

If you can’t complete the overtake within the confides of the track then it is an illegal move. In this case he hadn’t completed the move mid corner and could only do so by leaving the track at LH had positioned his car well. RedBull aren’t complaining, tells you all you need to know.

@@-natsukashii2727 Albon doesn’t have the best track record in wheel to wheel combat anyway... The fact remains that Lewis was entitled to have his car on the line he chose. The driver with the inside line will never back out first in that situation. It is up to the driver on the outside to release when/if they are running out of road and act accordingly. Lewis isn’t going to move out of his way because Max is trying to overtake. Especially when Max was where he was on track. His impatience cost him. But you are right, it was great to watch regardless of outcome. Let’s hope for many more this season!

@@daisyyy3134 - This is about turn 4, where going over the limit was fine during practice, not allowed during qualifying because the one lap times are crucial, but relaxed again for the race to make it easier for the stewards (from my understanding). Hence most of the drivers exceeded the limits at turn 4 at some moment during the race, whether they did it as often as Hamilton is not the point, since the rules should have been clear from the start and consistent throughout the entire weekend. The key point is, Verstappen's overtake was not really about turn 4, his overtake was illegal at ANY point around the track, since you can't overtake another car by exceeding the track limits.

Apparently, you didn’t watch the race... If you did, you’ve managed to ignore some simple facts... It is a fact, drivers were allowed to extent turn 4 with no penalty as long as they did not do it to overtake an opponent. It’s funny how people only single out Lewis, forgetting that almost all of the drivers did it. It was only when it was advertised over the broadcast that Lewis was doing it that they told everyone to stop. If you listen to the interviews Max already knew he went over and that he had to give it back. He never contested that, just that he gave it back so soon. I know you really want this to be a conspiracy, but you have to ignore some obvious facts to do so.

Max was already through and didn't overtake off the track.. you can see that Max had to correct because he slipped, but this didn't give him an advantage to overtake, its BS that he had to give back the position

The speed he used overtaking was too great to allow him to complete the corner within track limits and thus he went off the circuit in the corner he was using for the overtake. sorry, but the judgment was correct. You didn't hear Max or Christian complaining. This was in part due to the fact that it was Red Bull who demanded of the FIA that turn 4 track limits should be policed more rigorously.

Moreover, Michael Massey the race director did a post race interview where he stated that during the driver's meeting he clearly said that they would only consider a lasting advantage as overtaking or completing an overtake off the track. This is a none story, Max and the whole RB team knew it was illegal so I dont know why the "fans" debating it

They didn't change the rules. They made it clear in the drivers briefing that they won't enforce it in the race provided you don't gain a lasting advantage.
