The 2-stop strategy wasn't really open to HAM, because he would lose much more time behind Perez than Max. In the end, Merc tried to be smart and lost a race that they should win. RB was Big braining for signing Checo, the tyre whisperer of grid! Only Lewis might match his tyre management, but he has to focus on Max instead and both Lewis and Bottas usually run same tyre strats and its hard to predict how long Checo would extend his stints in the race making him a threat for the end of the race and he is atm up in the top 4 in the mix. If Checo is in the top 4 with the other 3 at the front like in France the Mercs will mostly be at a disadvantage bc of his tyre management. This year he knows he can't challenge Max and Lewis bc he is abt 5-6 races behind them in pace and points since it took a while to get up to speed so he knows he should do everything he can to help RB win constructors this year. Next year when he is more up to speed then he can get in the mix with the drivers title. This year is shaping up to be a classic in both championships and it might make "boring" tracks(like Paul Richard) a bit more exciting.

@everybodygoesdown80333 жыл бұрын
@@Harolddespui This is what Prost did in his entire career! That's why he is known as the "Professor". He didn't care when Senna was 1 sec ahead of him in quali. The same for the races, most of the times he was controlling everything because he knew that Senna always went flat-out, destroying his tyres. For me, RBR duo this year is the re-incarnation of Senna-Prost duo at McLaren. If next year RBR allows them to actually compete together, we will have some excitement.
@imnotJoel_3 жыл бұрын
@@Harolddespui that doesn't necessarily have to be true because over the years Checo has always treated his tyres nice (not necessarily under tyre management strategy) while being consistenly fast, given the machinery, and now he's just starting to get used and understand the car more, so maybe in the future he can be closer to Max and still be nice to the tyres. Also, it don't think it's easy to save tyres and be fast, and imo he does that pretty decently. Having that said i don't think it's totally fair to compare his pace with Max's. Max and his car are one and this season he's being incredible.
