Just got this, it is really amazing. Not a $150 kettle quality, but for the price a great nice looking tool, and super fast to heat 1 mug worth of H2O. Buy it.

Thank you so much. I was looking for a clarification on if the metal touches the water

I've had this Hamilton Beach kettle for over two years and its in perfect condition, just like the day I bought it. The only downside is that the shut off feature takes about 20 seconds of the water boiling to shut off - pressure needs to build up in the kettle in order for the shut off to happen. I use it every day, have almost no bad scale build up and have never de-scaled it (although I probably should so that the bottom steel piece looks shiny again). I love that it is made out of glass and steel so the water doesn't come in contact with plastic in order to boil. The blue lights are really awesome.

It's not pressure that stops the boiling its a thermostat sensor used controlled by a copper rod arrangement but now it's most likely a new resistance the more power it draws compared to the less it draws when its near boiling that combined with a steam sensor and a boil dry sensor

You won't necessarily see the water reach boiling temp in a microwave. It may be super-heated (above 212F) and still not have any bubbles -BUT if you were to drop a bit of sugar in there -boom- Just like super cooled water needs a "seed" to form ice crystals it also needs one to boil.

Your 100% correct Michael it does bare thinking about what superheated water will do to skin :-( or should i say bone when when the heat gets there even when cooling with running water ! Be very careful people . oh and always use microsafe cookware

I got one of these recently and I've noticed a strong plastic or "new kettle" smell. Did you have had the same problem, and if you did, where you able to get rid of the strong smell? The smell is still present even after multiple boils and one cleaning with vinegar. Thank you in advance for your time.

Thanks for sending me the link to this review, don't know how I missed seeing it. Great review and answered a couple of questions. I too liked the blue lites and that it shut itself off when I saw you using this kettle. A friend gave me one similar to this today, used. Likely not as fancy in features, I've not used it yet, but ya can't beat free lolBTW, water in microwave 'can be' at boiling point and you not see it, but if you were to put something in the water, say a chop stick, you'd see it boil up. So please be careful with boiling water in microwave.

Do you get much scale build up with this kettle? Also, are you still happy with this purchase. Thanks for your review. I'm considering purchasing this kettle.

The best tea is made by using a teapot. You pre warm the teapot with some of the boiling water then add teabags & boiling water. Leave to brew for 2-5 minutes then pour. If taken with milk, the milk should be added to the cup before the tea, then add sugar or lemon to taste. My dad taught me this at age 8. Us Brits take tea making very seriously 😉. P.s rooibos tea tastes great with milk too.

Thanks Rebecca. Yes, it sounds like you do. And thanks for the tip on the Rooibos- I bought it because I thought it might taste like Root Beer. Are us Americans hopeless?

The glass container needs no descaling but the metal part needs attention? Dare not try to open the bottom metal part. It looks like something that burned 75% on the metal where the glass connects with the metal. HELP

Don’t purchase the Hamilton beach kettle the glass has come away from the base on mine leaving me with a 2nd degree burn across my stomach. The glass sits in a blue which disintegrated and came away as I lifted it after boiling, I asked Hamilton Beach to recall them but have heard nothing.
