Hamilton already supplied the U.S. Armed Forces in the 1940s. The brand provided thousands of watches to the British Army during the late 1960s and 1970s. One of the most popular watches was the so called "W10", which Hamilton produced between 1973 and 1976. The "W10" was mainly issued to pilots.
The 2019 Hamilton Khaki Pilot Pioneer is a re-edition of the "W10". The 33 x 36 mm stainless steel case (isn't this a good size for all of you seeking for a smaller watch?) is brushed to avoid unnecessary glare. The matt dial and box-shaped crystal with double anti-reflective coating also keep the readability up and reflections low. The Hamilton Khaki Pilot Pioneer powered by the "H-50" hand-wound calibre with 80 hours of power reserve.
Hamilton Khaki Pilot Pioneer Mechanical

I'm going to buy this one soon. My wrist is only approximately 5.75-6 inches depending on the weather. My current everyday watch is a Blancpain FF Bathyscaphe 38mm. I'd like to add this classic military watch into my collection. The size is really perfect for people with smaller wrists. Really happy that Hamilton decided to go for this case diameter! (The 38mm Khaki mechanical is also great, but I agree with some people that the lug to lug length should be shorter. A 47mm lug to lug length is really too long and kind of out of proportion.)

The mystery (to me) is how they position this at a higher price than their khaki mechanical line. What makes it more expensive? I like the absence of the inner 24 hr ring. Anyone who actually uses 24 time knows those positions just fine.

Hamilton is still my favorite brand. I still wear a '78 Hamilton mil-issue field watch that was recently serviced (even though it's technically not a serviceable movement) and it keeps time really well. My day-to-day is a Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical and this new cushion-cased Pilot is right up my alley and I will be buying one soon. Wasn't a fan of the Khaki Field Watch re-issue but this "newer" Pilot is 100m w/r compared to the 50m w/r of the other one. FYI, I was stationed at Ray Barracks in Friedberg, Germany - where Elvis was stationed - from '95 to '07. Lovely little town right on Frankfurt's doorstep.

Release that chronograph on a brushed and tapered oyster bracelet. Throw away the rotor and make it hand wind only. 38-41mm. 10-12mm thick. Throw in a nato in the package. Charge 1500USD +/- Make sure it's a screw down crown!! Offer 100m WR. Happy company; happy fans.

There won’t be any „Oyster“-bracelet similar to existing ones, but Hamilton could offer a good looking bracelet as an option you have to pay for (+ 100-150). If the chronograph comes to the market it will be delivered with a leather/tissue/Nato-strap. Maybe both... And 1500 are in my opinion not feasible, that’s simply not enough to realize such a watch. Add another 1000 ... All the other wishes you have are pretty realistic...

@@WatchAdvisor I think it could be done for around 2000USD. If they take the H-31 caliber from the modern Intra-Matic Auto Chrono, delete the date complication and remove the rotorworks, they would have a watch that would easily meet Lliam's requests. Less the date complication and automatic winding it could be priced at or below the Intra-Matic which is listed at 2195USD today. Stick a $2k price tag on that watch and I'm sold...right after I finish saving up for my Intra-Matic.

Put the broad arrow back on the dial where it belongs. The W10 has always been mechanical, or quartz. Indicating that the movement is mechanical on the dial is a nonsense. None of the changes made to the dial are an improvement. The W10 wasn't broken; but you fixed it anyway. I do appreciate the movement update. That was a brilliant move, slowing down the beat in order to achieve an 80 hour power reserve. And, increasing the WR to 100M was a brilliant move. But why didn't you implement a screw down back?

@@WatchAdvisor Great news, my watch has arrived! I really like the symmetry of the dial lay out the placement of the day and date complications look just right to me. I thought that the all black case and dial may make the watch wear a little bit smaller but it does indeed wear every bit a 42 mm watch. Perfect for my 7 1/4" wrist. It would be nice if the lume was brighter as I work in low light conditions alot but maybe it is not possible with the grey colour numerals. The 80 hour power reserve is maybe the best part. No having to reset the time after a long weekend!

@@Nixxtrr Yes, normally black makes things appear smaller ... At first sight maybe, but if you look closer you will still be able to discover the true size. Do you think this watch would be suitable for regular ocean use? I'm a surfer and I've been looking for a simple, clean, highly legible and durable watch. All the divers I've seen are just too complicated for me. There's just something about pilots watches that I love but because of my sport, I'm too afraid to trust them in the ocean 3 days a week

Honest question, why is it that this particular watch is the the only watch (to my knowledge) that is measured differently? This watch is 36mm with a lug to lug of 41mm. I think that measuring between the lugs is odd, and a disservice to Hamilton sales dept. People who dont know its true specs will be turned off by the 33mm (between the lugs) measurement.

Good point! Of course the Khaki Pilot is not as small as it might appear due to the 33 mm ....

All is good except for the mineral crystal. Why not sapphire? :(
@WatchAdvisor
@WatchAdvisor 4 жыл бұрын
This is due to the box shape! Producing a box shaped sapphire glas is very expensive and in daily use it does make a big difference since the mineral glas is extra hardened. On top the Sapphire glas very often is bulky ... would not look good - believe me!

I am sorry, but I do not agree with you regarding the swatch group. I had a hamilton khaki mechanical which I purchased new from an AD. The watch had a defect which I showed the AD. They agreed and sent it back to Swatch for repairs. Swatch declined the warranty and later reverted requesting to share the cost. So sorry but I won't buy from a company that says they warranty their products and then look for ways to avoid honouring the warranty. I sold the watch

To me if it doesn't have a GMT complication... it's just not a pilot's watch. It's just an ordinary watch. Breitling and IWC keep making this mistake over and over again. Rolex doesn't.

Right... So fliegers are also not pilot watches then?
@albertbremner8173
@albertbremner8173 4 жыл бұрын
@@Joe-xo3xy I'll explain. First of all yes of course fliegers are pilot's watches - GMT movements simply didn't exist back then. It wasn't until 1955 the first GMT Master was created [Hans Wilsdorf, Rolex]. So in my opinion, from 1955 onward GMT should have been incorporated into all of them, period.

Loses a lot of its appeal by removing the broad arrow symbol. Other brands use it on their watches so it's not impossible. Sounds like they just didn't want to go through the effort of getting the rights to use it.
@WatchAdvisor
@WatchAdvisor 3 жыл бұрын
Maybe they should have done this ... maybe they just respected the fact that Swatch Group sister company Omega presented its new James Bond Seamaster with the Broad Arrow ... 😉
@tdbn4599
@tdbn4599 3 жыл бұрын
Maybe not. I like the exceptionality of watches with broad arrow. Having this insignia meant that the equipment was service issued and not for commercial purposes. In my opinion, buying the rights of the symbol and slapping it on a product diminishes its historical significance. Anyway, keep up the good work WatchAdvisor!

The arrow is earned leave it to the ones who deserve it. This watch was given free to the men in-service. To add the arrow then sell it commercial than makes no sense at all.

“Below 40mm” doesn’t mean shrink it by 4mm!!! Yes, 40mm is too big, but 36mm is too small! I’m always amazed how manufacturers continue to make this basic mistake. 1mm difference is a huge change for case diameter. 37-38mm would have been great. My money will,stay in my pocket.

This is my 2nd 36mm watch. I’ll most likely only buy 36-37 with 45 max lug to lug. It’s a shame because my Damasko doesn’t get much wrist time anymore. It is 39mm and 47mm. Great watch but seems so big. And I have a muscular build with larger wrists to. If Connery can rock the tiny sub in 007 men today can too. My daily is the 36mm MSAR marathon auto. Great watch, recommend.
