HAMILTON INFURIATES ALONSO! The Story of the 2010 European Grand Prix

Is this legitimately the point where Alonso lost the 2010 title? I suppose that depends on him getting past the safety car line and Hamilton doesn't slow down I guess...
Because if he finishes 3rd or even 2nd because of Hamilton changing his front wing, then he's won the title. Easy peasy. But it's one of those things, and I invite you to discuss in the comments.
Enjoy! And remember to like and subscribe for more!

If he'd won the title then the team would've treated him with a lot more respect until he retired. Vettel was a whinging little crybaby who was hopeless at leading a team as was proven when he threw his toys out the pram and moved to Ferrari where he threw away 2 titles in 2018 and 19.

1. 11:16 *Sir Hashtag of Blessed* is probably the greatest nickname for Hamilton I have ever heard 2. It is beyond ironic to hear Alonso of all people complain about race-fixing 3. I think Hamilton legit got confused during this process as opposed to trying to play smart. Not to mention the whole 2009 Australia fiasco, so getting caught up in another safety car controversy *on purpose* would be the last thing on his mind. 4. Even though the track apart from the 2012 race was a bit of a borefest (not to mention the no overtakes race in 2009) I can't help but love the Valencia circuit. Driving here on F1 2010-2012 games was exceptionally fun

17:10 a lot of drivers could have won 2010.... If Vettel didn't have his engine issue in Bahrain, wheel coming off in Australia, engine failure in Korea, he would've wiped the floor with everyone because that's 75 points. Likewise Fernando had a failure in Malaysia, this incident in Valencia, lucky in Bahrain and Korea, he'd have won it in a slightly slower car despite the Abu Dhabi strategy blunder. If Hamilton didn't have his Monza and Singapore incidents, his Hungary failure, his Spain tire failure, he'd have won the title. If Webber hadn't had that incident with Heikki he'd have maybe recovered to the points and been world champion. Even Button could be world champion again if the engineers didn't leave the maintenance tool in his car's sidepod in Monaco, or been taken out by Sebastian in Belgium. It was a crazy season with no one having an ideal time. I know that in the moment of bad luck or failures or incidents, the drivers would have felt so much pain. But in the end, the season was spiced up so much by everything happening......

Not back then they weren't. In 2010 I believe NBC had the contract, and races were on NBC sports except for the 4 free to air races. We had the same crew from speed channel before NBC though, and while the US hasn't sent a whole team to the race, up until 2010 we had Peter Windsor on location as the pit reporter. Bob Varsha, Steve Matchett, and David Hobbs were the studio announcers. I actually miss those guys, and would rather have them back. Although, ESPN plays the race with no commercials, so there's that. I just wish we had our own broadcast guys.

Thing people don’t think about; If Valencia had gone in Fernando’s favour, you can’t then assume the rest of the season will have played out exactly the same. Maybe it would have but that’s not how life works. Every single thing would have been different, starting with the results of the race and ending with any number of different scenarios. Saying “this is where Fernando lost the championship” just doesn’t work because everything from that point will have played out differently.

It could be seen as the race that lost Alonso the championship with how you described it, I guess. Similarly Webber lost the championship here with that zigzag driving Lotus of Kovalainen and/or the slow pitstop you mentioned. Also it is the race that on the other hand won Vettel the championship as he managed to win when his rivals stumbled. But then we have Korea where Webber also lost the championship and Vettel lost it as well, we have Belgium where Alonso lost the championship and let's not forget Australia where Vettel lost the championship. And then we have to consider Hamilton with 3 DNFs in 4 races, that probably lost him the championship. Wait wat

Brass neck on Fernando to accuse anyone of cheating or fixing a race less than two years after crash gate. That said knowing Fernando especially as time goes by he tends to say a lot of things to provoke reactions or conversations behind the scenes as opposed to him thinking these things definitely happen way he claims them. I seem to be the only person who liked Valencia. Particularly the bridge, and the flat out left-rights of the final sector. Yeongam, take it or leave it, and Buddh, I didn't like too much. It is indeed a 'shoulda would coulda' moment, so does it really matter? Only in terms of remembering that it's about the whole year in a championship battle, not the last 2 or 3 events where suddenly everyone remembers every fraction of a second. In the context of where we were in the season at that point, I would say it was where Hamilton lost it rather than Alonso. At that point in the season Ferrari were Ferrari-ing as usual after the 1-2 in Bahrain. I distinctly remember laughing at Alonso saying he could win from however many points behind, when I read it. Yeah, only if we were still running last year's points, I thought, not with them giving points away like Smarties this year. Meanwhile it seemed like a private battle between Red Bull and McLaren, and after the fallout from Turkey coupled with back to back wins for Lewis, plus applying that "golden boy policy" to both teams, I expected the drivers title to be exclusively Vettel v. Hamilton from then on. Then came McLaren's SNAFU here, which shows any recent viewer on F1TV that they aren't the only generation questioning the people upstairs when a single thing doesn't run to plan. Except you wouldn't have demands for Charlie to be sacked... This started a period of misery for Hamilton - other than winning in Belgium, there was being solid but not spectacular in Britain and Germany, engine failure in Hungary and crashes in Italy and Singapore. This was where it began for Alonso, really, as his rage here was just barely justified by being on the pace again, followed by an upturn in form, let's not mention Hockenheim, please... Shock horror, have a stiff drink to hand - I'm not blaming Hamilton!!!! There was confusion about where to do X, either Lewis or the team messed it up, and the controversy, such as it was, then as now, I write off as yet another classic Alonso tantrum. It ain't no 'media narrative', Grandad, it's baked into your character, mate. After all the years of Ferrari International Assistance, for them to use words like 'bitter' and 'false' is frankly so hypocritical I find it offensive. The other thing I remember from this race was the multiple cars being investigated after the race, with Jonathan 'Problems There!' Legard declaring the message from Race Control was like a bingo call. One of the first instances of one of DC's recurring rants, about the result not matching the pictures. And all that's before you mention Kobayashi. Why, yes, I did laugh when he yeeted past Alonso with a lap to go, how'd you guess?

From my understanding low resolution images can be used under "fair use" provisions in US and similar rules in UK law. I've also heard other youtubers say that it is almost never worthwhile defending against a copyright strike, because you can't afford to have 3 copyright strikes. Not an F1 question, more a channel question. Why is it that you are so very cautious with the images in your videos. I understand copyright law, I also understand why a person would be standoffish when it comes to getting demonetized over a photo. What confuses me is how absolute you in obtaining photos when it seems every other F1 channel couldn't possibly care any less about it? I would really appreciate an answer as the whole thing is a bit confusing. Thanks and great content as always!

@@AidanMillward Appreciate you elaborating on this. You seem to completely understand the angle I was trying to approach this from. I get why they don't go after The Race being that they are in F1's pocket, and good for them. Beyond that though, I don't know how the others get away with it. I'm sure they have been hit with a strike here or there but we both know it can't be happening regularly or they wouldn't continue to do it and get demonetized. I think over all the way you're doing it is best because at least this way you dont ever have to worry about getting that one video that really takes off and hits huge numbers, then gets demonetized but they must be getting away with it 99% of the time, right? Otherwise it wouldn't be worth the risk. Just doesn't make sense to me but the KZbin algorithm is designed to not make sense so I suppose my being confused is par for the course. You make great content. Keep doing what you're doing and I will keep supporting it. If I were you though, I would want to throw one video out with copyrighted material. These sorts of theories are said by fans all the time as if they are certain. I know this is a hypothetical video, and you may not be of this opinion. If Fernando had got passed the safety car, like Lewis, then the rest of the race (obviously) would have been different; but by extension of those events, the entire rest of the season would have also played out differently. There’s no guarantee, in any of the similar circumstances of any given season, that things would have gone the same way. If Alonso got passed the safety car, for example, any number of things would have been changed that could’ve resulted in Button being crowned champion. It’s fun to speculate of course, but some people don’t realise; life doesn’t that way and everything we do effects the entire rest of our life and those we come in contact with and so on. Maybe Michael would have won a race. What ever happened, Lewis not hesitating does not guarantee Fernando the championship, because everything after would have been different. And yes, I am fun at parties!

Hamilton had his own championship prospects to think about, so risking it all to mess Alonso around doesn't stack up. The safety car overtaking rules were laughably convoluted at the time, so I can well imagine LH sitting there thinking "Err, do I go or not?!"

And rightly so in this incident in my view. Lewis doing damage control for having a damaged wing and lengthy stop dropping him back in the queue but like this he lost nothing and competitors did instead. Far too much to consider it a coincidence of the situation. The kind of situation like Michael parking his car in Monaco 2006 qualifying. Or Alonso holding Lewis up in Hungary 2007 qualifying. Like for like that was as a sort of payback, but Lewis didn’t have to take a penalty for it.

Alonso accusing another driver of race fixing when he should have been disqualified from Singapore '08 after benefitting from Crashgate should be the definition of having no sense of irony. Lets not forget he failed to overtake Petrov in Abu Dhabi for 40 laps as well, not completely his fault as Ferrari made the wrong strategy call but he should have taken more risks given what was at stake. Nice Black Country Flag btw.

Since you asked, current US TV rights is ABC/ESPN. Fox gave away rights to NBC who then dropped F1 over the creation of the streaming service, who basically went to ESPN going "We need a broadcaster please take us!"

It’s funny how much so many Brits hate Alonso despite their golden boy lucking into a dominant car for, oh, just SEVEN straight seasons. BTW, I have never heard Lewis complain about ANYTHING on the radio. And he surely wouldn’t have been annoyed if this had happened to him. 🙄

@@AidanMillward He’s not. I like Lewis. I simply don’t like seeing any driver subtly mischaracterized regularly. And, if we’re talking about rent free, it’s funny that this many years later your default angle on Alonso is negative. As you said yourself, you could have titled this video “is this where Alonso lost the title?” Instead you gave it one with an inherently negative spin. Just because you make a point of saying “I don’t dislike Alonso,” doesn’t mean it’s true.
@The_ZeroLine
@The_ZeroLine 4 ай бұрын
BTW, I was actually referring to all the comments rather than your video. But since you took it personally, I didn’t mind pointing out a minor bias you might not even realize exists. And it’s an understandable one. After all, you’re a fan just like everyone else.

@@The_ZeroLine didn’t take anything personally. 💁🏻‍♂️ Plus no negative spin needed. Nando accusing Lewis of cheating when Singapore 2008 happened is a bit rich tbh. There's no bias for that. This is an observation that a lot of people noticed then and still make now. That's not being biased or 'defaulting to a negative view of him', that's just calling out bullshit.

US broadcasts are currently held by ESPN (a Disney company, if you're curious); as of the last time I watched a race on television, they just imported a feed from Sky Sports, though given the change of commentator team for F1's highlight reels, perhaps that's changed now. Before that, the broadcast rights were held by NBC, which aired F1 on NBC Sports Network. Before that, they were held by Fox, which aired F1 on Speed Channel. I started watching F1 on Speed in 2003, so there's a lot of nostalgia associated with that brand for me.
