The flaw is in our thinking that the lume color is automatically “vintage” rather than cream. This alternative tone allows less glaring contrast to certain style of watches. Perhaps initially some makers use this tone to simulate vintage elements, but now a days this tone is an option to soften up some design elements

I’m sorry, but who cares if it’s the exact size as a prop watch in a movie. 42mm is far too big for a field style watch. Worse is that it has 52mm lug length. Damn a 1:1 scale, 38mm would’ve been an ideal size.

40mm is the perfect size for a field watch. 42mm is the perfect size for a dive watch or any other sports watch. When u want to wear a watch on a leather strap as well, it should be 40mm or less. Paying $1,000 for a Hamilton doesn't make sense to me. Especially when the movement is not an ETA 2824-2 anymore and instead the downgraded powermatic movement. The power reserve is up but the beat rate has gone down from 8bps to 6bps. Thus compromising the sweep and accuracy. No srew down crown with added protection for water resistance. Once that lead to a stopped watch for a couple of hours till I noticed, and then making me late getting home for dinner. Another time lead to water in the case. The Khaki is kind of like an entry level mechanical Swiss swatch that isn't plastic (AKA Swatch) and is traditionally made. That's why people like it. It's relatively inexpensive at $270-ish, but you can get the same quality at a lower price from Seiko or Orient or get something better at the same price point from Seiko or Orient. Being mostly Swiss made adds $100 to the price.

I know what you mean, but I think it’s because that movie was pretty great, with a large fan base, and the Murph watch wasn’t just a random prop but a key part of the plot. In other words, it wasn’t just her watch, but the final solution as it delivered the message. I wish it was 40mm and cheaper. $1000.00 for this watch is a joke but guess what.....Hamilton will sell every one at that price. Not a lot of watches available for a lot of people that want it. About the size. McConaughey wore the Aviator's watch (H646150) which is the exact watch you can buy from Hamilton. They had to make the "Murph" watch true to the movie to be consistent. If they sized it any less than 42, they would have had the "collectors" complaining that it's not really a "murph" watch. I'd bet that Hamilton will make this watch in a smaller size somewhere down the line. If they do, probably 38mm. I own the Aviator watch and it's 42mm. 42mm is way to big for a field watch and unless Hamilton makes a smaller version, the "Murph" watch will not be in my buying future. Wish the lugs were drilled, the case was 38-39 and the bezel was brushed. The pricing as you noted makes little sense for the reasons you've already cited. Hamilton has recently done this large price disparity again with it's Khaki Aviation Pilot Pioneer and the Khaki Field 38 bronze both of which are substantially more $ than other similar specced watches in their line. I've recently grown really fond of the look and size of the Khaki Field 38 automatic and I am actively considering getting one but I really wish it had a screw down crown, drilled lugs, blue AR (or any at all) and that the scratch magnet bezel was brushed instead of polished.

40mm would have been better but I did preorder the watch anyway. It is far cleaner of a dial than the 38 you are comparing it to in my opinion. Also the watch it should have been compared with was the Hamilton field day date which is also 42mm. I agree the cost is higher than necessary but I also think some watches do not need a day and/or date function and this murph Watch definitely falls into that category for me. I don't think it would truly be "the Murph" if it was smaller than 42mm, because, as has been well-stated, that's what the original movie watch was. Having said that, it's too big for me to wear, thanks to the super long lugs. Ideally, I'd like to see them release an unofficial, standard production "mini-Murph" in 38mm as a companion piece. That would appease both the watch nerds that like smaller sizes and people with smaller wrists. Plus, since it would be unofficial, it would likely cost less. I'm positive they will never do any of that, but I can always dream, right?

Its really had to review /compare a watch that one has not directly handled and worth is in the eye of the spender. I feel the 40mm with no bezel insert will make the watch look much bigger on the wrist based upon dial-size. 38 is near perfection for most people due to the proportions. The lume is beige and lighter than the normal vintage old radium look. I think it is a classic in the making and can be dressed up/down and makes it much more flexible than the Khaki...thus very easily justifiable for the 2 x price...IMHO.

Even though I wear larger watches, which aren’t actually ,,larger,, if you are over 6,5ft tall, look like Shrek and have over 8-inch wrists, I am sane enough to wish not for smaller or larger watches trend, but for choice so that anybody can pick the one that suits them. This is also the reasons I kinda flip out when I hear people preaching smaller or larger watches or trends, it doesn’t make any sense to me.

When did James Cameron start making watch videos?

I think it's a little early to say anything about this watch until it's on wrist. Some watches wear larger than their specs, some smaller. I've personally found Hamilton's lugs make watches seem larger on wrist.

Agreed on how they wear, the "anti Seiko" haha

Well, if that watch is good enough for the girl (Murph) in the movie, then it should be good enough for most MEN. Speaking for myself, I love everything about it and I can’t wait to order mine even if it does cost me $1500 Australian.

I love large watches. I have big wrists and I can swallow up a 36 or 38 and make it look like a 1940s ladies watch.

I’ll never understand people getting worked up about the price of a completely discretionary item like this. I would be willing to bet that the vast majority of people chosen from a random sample would think that $100 is way to much to pay for a timepiece that isn’t as accurate as their smartphone. As for size, beyond the fact that, at 40mm or 38mm it wouldn’t be the “Murph watch”, I think it wears small for a 42.

The Murph Is a beauty...It wins hands down...but it 's too big for my wrist...

They sized themselves out of the market. lol. I just bought the 38mm automatic and it's the best everyday watch I've had. My Longines heritage chronograph is a bit much to wear everyday.

They made it for real men.

Honestly, did anyone even know the watch's actual size from the movie? I can see how a die-hard fan of both horology and the movie could insist upon making it a 1:1 reproduction, BUT Hamilton should know it's market, and make a decision that would sell more of the product, and that is to acquiesce to the current size trend.

The size is not an issue with me. My issue with Hamilton - normally the lume is horrid. The field watches included.
@JustWatchreviews5 жыл бұрын
Judging by this one, I think they may have upped their game on the luminous, it's noticeably better than it was on the Field Khaki I reviewed in August.

I would have preferred 40mm. Of course I would have preferred a 40 mm version of the mechanical field as well. As it is, for me, one is too small and one is too large.

Even without seeing the video, yes it does, because technical specs rarely, if ever, was the most important factor in pricing a watch, so why do people these days agonize about specs, it seems this started only in this internet forums/comments/blogs age. As for the size, I think size means squat unless directly related to wrist size and individuals size. Saying 42mm is too big or 38mm is too small is just plain stupid. Both CAN be true for some individuals, or both CAN be false. Ideally all watches should come in at least two sizes. As for comparison with the normal Khaki Field, it really pointless, you just get the one you like, simple as that, how stupid it would be to really like the Murph but buy the Field because it’s better value on paper ?

The size does not bother me as much as the price. $1000 for a H10 movement? I am hopping it is released as a regular production at a lower price, under $600. I love my 38mm auto!

3x? It’s not $15-1800. It’s not even twice the price at $895-$995. The dial alone though imho is leaps nicer than any khaki field. So to me it’s worth it. I think 41mm with a lug to lug at no bigger than 50mm would’ve been perfect. But the 38mm with its lug to lug is hovering around a woman’s Watch size. So to me stick with the 42mm if your wrist is close to 7in or bigger.
@timemeasured91373 жыл бұрын
This is essentially a khaki field auto 42mm. Exact same case, crown and movement but different dial and strap. That being said is it worth $1000? No... but nice piece.
@davidhobson78512 жыл бұрын
the comparison should be between the 42 and the 38 murphy, not the 38mm Khaki field, its a different watch after all. You shod, of all people know that a watch is more than just a sum of its component parts!

Yall need to stop "big watch shaming" lol. There are plenty of 38mm Hamilton watches out there for you guys with smaller wrists. 38mm looks like a toy on me. Let me enjoy some watches please. I have an 8 inch wrist and think 42mm is about the best size for me.
