I've lived in Hamilton for all of my 65 years and have seen many changes, some for the worse and more recently, many for the better. For those who are reading and possibly believing some of the "shithole" comments, come see for yourself before you believe them. I wouldn't have stayed here if that were true. A good time to come might be during one of several free annual festivals... I've linked only a few and there are several more. But don't just see downtown! When you've had enough of crowds, music, and great food, make sure you drive up the mountain and drive along Mountain Park Ave to Mountain Brow Blvd to Albion Road, and stop once in a while to take in the view. Get out of your car at the Kenilworth Stairs and take a walk on the park trail there, or go down them and have a more rustic walk on the old rail trail halfway down. Then switch over to the section of the Bruce Trail that takes you down the Red Hill Valley and along to Albion Falls. This is no shithole! facebook.com/pg/Supercrawl/videos/ which happens to be on right now. festivaloffriends.ca/video/ www.lockestreetfestival.com/ dundasbuskerfest.ca/

I think south of Barton Street, the Mountain and around the Hamilton Go Bus has potential..why?. It only takes about 1hr to downtown Toronto by GO Bus and your not paying GTA/ Golden Horseshoe prices for a home. My sister purchased a home in Oshawa and it takes her 1hr 30 min to travel to work easily she could have gotten a place in Hamilton for peanuts and the travel time would be either the same or a lot less. Long term you won't make as much on getting a home in Hamilton but its not like your mortgage/rent was very high to begin with. What matters is paying off your mortgage faster and making sure your mortgage doesn't cost you to much to the point you end up house poor I think Hamilton has an advantage for that.
