Wow I moved away a little more than a year ago and holy shit Delaware Ave. has changed like crazy. The whole downtown area is in a bizarro renaissance right now well at least for Buffalo because honestly the city and Erie county did absolutely nothing basically the last 3/4 decades, everything since the 60s in Buffalo just went on the decline. Im glad to see it finally being realized because it has a lot to offer and potential especially the water front which was neglected for decades and I could never figure out why. We should of followed the initial blueprint of what Cleveland did in the mid 90s that totally took a shit city basically into one of the nicer ones because they are very similar both being on Lake Erie and having the same history basically of being a boom town in the early to mid 20th century with bustling industry but then dying out in the 70s and 80s. Nice video it was cool to see my hometown from that perspective bc I have not been home in over a year.

@Ominousslug4 жыл бұрын
This is just downtown Buffalo. The video doesn't show the other 95% of the city. Downtown is mostly just government administration and offices. If you move north from downtown there are tons of shops, coffee houses, bars, and restaurants. The eclectic food options and restaurant quality in this city are pretty much unrivaled for small to medium size cities. As far as parks go, you couldn't be more wrong. Buffalo has the most unique and beautiful park system in the entire country, bar none. The city was designed to be a city inside a park, as opposed to putting parks in the city. Frederick Law Olmstead installed a parkway system that connects 3 major parks (Front park, MLK Park, and Delaware park) in the 19h century. Long greenways run throughout the entire city, and the 3 major parks are large. Delaware park itself is enormous and contains a number of art deco buildings that serve as museums and restaurants. It's like going back in time to the gilded age. Over 80% of the park system remains in its original condition. The Buffalo city layout is also unique. The street system is a radial pattern of long avenues overlaying a grid. It is very much similar to Paris after Hausmannization. Living in Buffalo is literally like living inside a park. You also have a huge waterfront area that has been revitalized over the last 20 years and offers a ton of things to do.
@ianburton80504 жыл бұрын
@@Ominousslug Thanks for your reply. But I can only comment on what I see. I came to this video because I was looking at other information on Buffalo regarding repossessed property that the authorities were giving away for nothing to get people in and renew run down areas (slums?), so it seems you are fighting an uphill battle to change public perceptions on two fronts.

@@ianburton8050 Oh yes, no disagreement there. Buffalo still has a great deal of problems. You have to understand that it's one of the most segregated cities in the country and progress has been exceedingly uneven. I was just pointing out that it's not as dreary as you may have perceived it to be.

We could be happier with less of that awful depressing music - makes the city seem more depressing than it already is.
