Thanks for posting this. Once Grandma Kate was gone, AMC wasn't quite the same. And now, without any of the older generation featured (unless you want to consider Erica), the show lost its balance and I lost interest. We miss you Kate, Mona, Phoebe, Charles, Langley, Joe, Ruth, and Paul!

This woman had soap opera credentials both in radio and television for decades. From Wiki: " In 1948, she began playing Lola Conway in Katie's Daughter on NBC. She played Laura Richardson on Lonely Women in 1942-1943 and Evey Perkins on Ma Perkins from 1945 to 1960 and was a member of the cast of The Flying Patrol in 1941-1942 and Sweet River in 1943-1944. Her first regular televised serial role was as Helene Benedict on The Guiding Light from 1957 until 1964. She went on to play Rose Pollock #3 on The Edge of Night. She had retired following her role on The Edge of Night but she was coaxed out of retirement by soap opera writer and producer Agnes Nixon, who had created the role of "Kate" especially for Kay Campbell on the soap opera All My Children. Contrary to popular belief, she was not the first actress to play the role. Kate Harrington originated the character, was recast with Christine Thomas, who was in turn recast with Campbell. She portrayed Kate Martin from mid-1970 to her death in 1985.]

What's interesting here is how quickly (for lack of a better word) AMC responded to Kay Campbell's passing, as this aired less than two months after her accident. Compare this tribute to GL, for example, where the show waited an entire year to acknowledge the passing of Charita Bauer (Bert Bauer) and even then only after the fans protested.

They either brought her loved ones back or mentioned why they weren't there, quite a contrast to Stuart's recent funeral, where Hayley and Skye were not even mentioned. This is a very moving clip, although I'm surprised to see Nancy Frangione as Tara. Karen Gorney wouldn't come back? How odd for Nancy to go from a character like Cecile on AW to going back to Tara. LGM429, I am so definite agreement with you on this one. Ruth Warrick was an original cast member of AMC; Eileen Herlie was on for over 20 years; and so was James Mitchell. They gave more than a lot of years to that show, and they should have received a PROPER send-off, not any of that business as usual stuff too. I especially think that Phoebe, being an original character, should have been given a better reminiscence and send off.

This had more in common with Joey & Dorian on OLTL. Erica married Phil Brent, her high school crush, then had a relationship with his son Charlie. Dorian went after Joe Riley while he was married to Viki right after Kevin was born and also dated Clint prior to his marrying Viki and adopting Kevin and Joey.

God Almighty you tension with Tara & Erica was so bone chilling. I wish that Karen Lynn Gorney had come back for the Show. To me she was the "Only" Tara. The Grandmothers of US Soaps from back in the day were so loving, warm and kind. You couldn't put these ladies on a UK Soap like Coronation Street or even Eastenders, they would freak out since crime, and unemployment was rampant in England in the 1980's.
@fwdthinker2 жыл бұрын
When they did get Karen Lynn Gorney back it was so disappointing. It was more about Kelsey and her baby drama. I wanted to see her pay the fabulous La Kane a visit and pop her one for screwing her son. But I don't believe they had one scene together. Crazy because she and Lucci were original cast members. How could they deny that history and not play on it?
