Cheetah Mum & Attacking Lions

For cheetah cubs survival in the wild is tough work as more than 90% of cubs don't make it to adulthood. Cheetah mums have to be wonder-mums with all odds against them. Here is a glimpse into what we experienced this summer in the Serengeti. After many unsuccessful hunts our wonder-mum makes a kill ... only to be cheated out of it by predators from the air and land. And in that exhausted state she still has still more life-threatening adventures ahead ... watch on and enjoy!

Lions have their problems but at least They have the support of a pride . Poor cheetahs are small and have To raise Cubs by themselves. Lots of predators waiting to take Their kills.

I’ve seen cheetahs distract lions from their cubs. I’ve seen cheetahs in packs of 3/4 taking larger prey and fight hyenas so they don’t steal their food. I’ve seen cheetah cubs standing up to other cheetahs and surviving thanks to an elephant. Still brave. I don’t underestimate them anymore. Their jaw force is really strong in comparison to their head size. Their hunting chances are higher than lions. Lions hunt in packs. If anything I would feel bad for African wild cats and servals, usually are killed by leopards. Cheetahs can out run any animal.

@@SophiaFerro Elaphants can do it! If a smaller animal is getting attacked by a bigger animal that´s trying to kill it, a close elaphant could come and scare them away! In one video lions were trying to take down a buffalo but an elaphant came in and scared the lions away!

It's not easy being a cheetah (specially a female one), having to take care of babies, watch out for other predators, go hunting those freaking fast gazelles, and still taking care of your own life!

actually after procreation, the mother's life is for her cubs, and she is glad to give it away. The only reason she must not die is so she can raise and protect her cub, she has no other wish for her own self.

Cubs saved themselves by running and mom intervened just enough to tire that lioness out. Cheetahs have a very hard time out on those exposed plains. Cubs have to be very quiet and stay still while mom is hunting. And pay attention. She's raised them right if they just see a lion and run the other way! Good mom. Hope she's successful!

The mother cheetah should have eaten her meal quickly in the 1st place instead of calling her cubs over...... Now she is paying the price with vultures stealing part of her meal which attracts the lion from his sleep and has no hesitation to steal her meal and eats it comfortably......... At the near end of this video he refuses to share his meal with the lioness until he is full because he eats 1st before her.

It's great how the baby cheetah have learned to run away by the order of their mum making the command sound. They also seem to know that the horizon must be constantly observed for predators that may kill them. Even when they re united with mum they don't forget to lookout around in the distance.

And let's not forget the cheetah mom that at one point had 11 cubs with her. Over half were orphans from other cheetah moms that had been killed or just lost their cubs. 11 cheetah cubs! And she provided for them. I don't think they all survived but still, for a wild cheetah to take in multiple orphaned cubs and raise them. That's just unreal. It's like that cheetah knows her species is in danger and she did everything she could to raise more cheetahs.

Wow, that was some impressive footage. That shot of the male lion moving in on the kill, straight towards the camera like that, with that majestic gate, claiming what he felt was rightfully his?! I've never seen anything quite like that. What an absolute gorgeous specimen both he and the lioness were. Both looked healthy, strong and at the peak of their powers. Tremendous!

Awesome Video! Great news to know that the beautiful cheetah family lives another day. Mom cheetahs persistence to deter the lioness away from her cubs paid off, well done cheetah girl! The cheetah is the king of felines. Don't say lion is the king of the savanna. How can he be a king of the savannah when he feeds on the leftovers of cheetah hunting, etc.? All big cats live alone with lions being the exception, but even young male lions have to live on their own when they are cast out of the pride by the dominant male.

Video was riveting and disturbingly graphic at the same time. First rate video of everyday life on the grassy savannah. Both lions looked hale and well fed. Vultures (super cool birds) looked hale and hungry as well. Mum cheetah certainly used her coy interference tactics to save her three amigos. I have wondered for years why evolution has not favoured the establishment of a pair bond in cheetahs. The hazards and difficulties for mothers raising cubs are extreme. If a variant had arisen that would have the males retain a connection and be there to hunt for the females and provide some protection, I think it would have been strongly selected for. I can only guess that the basic solitary life of most cats and those deeply embedded in their genetics, (except for lions) has prevented that from happening.

Great video, & super great camera work. Thanks for that, because many well-meaning people post their videos from safari's but I almost get motion sickness trying to watch the shaky footage. Also, I feel for the poor Cheetahs. They do have such a hard time just trying to eek out a living...just about every other predator does steal their hard-won kills. So sad. I love lions also, but that lioness was very stupid! She burned off so many calories needlessly trying to kill the Cheetah & her cubs.
