Brilliant series. My favourite was " Children of the full moon" and then "Charlie Boy". Diana Dors was terrifying as Mrs Ardoy, also in "The amazing Mr Blunden,not forgetting her in the 1973 series"Thriller" in the episode "Nurse will make it better". The theme still sends shivers down my spine!!

Very claustrophobic as well as the supernatural the show played on psychological fears too to add another punch to the gut.

About 5 years ago, I started a journey - watching as many of these types of TV show as I could. I started with my favourite - the 50s/60s Twilight Zone; then Thriller (Brian Clemens), then this series. I recall watching it at my nan's on a Saturday night in the early 80s on Grananda. It holds up with some decent stories and good actors. For the record, I then watched all of TotU, the 80s Twilight Zone and am currently working my way through the original Tales from the Darkside and Hammer House of Mystery and Suspense aka Fox Mystery Theatre.. The latter has an episode where Dirk Benedict and Burt Kwouk have a fight. TV gold.

Thank you for sharing - I think hhoh - I watched at my Nans too. I loved Twilight Zone and Thriller also had some corkers. I recently watched Mystery and Suspense and despite lacking in the sleaze does have some noteworthy episodes - Childs Play always sticks in my memory and Tennis Court. If you get the chance watch my reviews of out of the unknown and west country tales - these may jog some memories depending on first time round viewing as both shows were not repeated often. West Country is not available on DVD either so hoping BFI will release them. Thanks for sharing your memories with us as that's what this channel is all about. I might look at other anthologies in future programmes. Outer Limits (original and remake) are worth a punt too if you haven't seen them already. Very best 🦀.

Me too - they do a lot of before and afters on some of the Dr Who blurays. Sometimes there are hardly any changes but other times it can be quite sad especially when the landscape has changed beyond all recognition and its for the worse. ☹️

Brilliantly researched and well made review. I've collected rare videos for 35 years and started on TV stuff around 20 years back. I've hoarded all things HHoH for as long too. The Precision releases on uk video are great as well as the Brent Walker releases of Mystery and Suspense. Loved the Devil in Miss Jones and Zombie Flesheaters soundtrack you used in the background too... Well done..

@@tonybianco7897 Thank you so much and for recognising Miss Jones - which for some bizarre reason just seemed to fit perfectly for the background. I will no doubt use it again for future reviews. Hope you enjoy my reviews of all things Amicus as well. Those early video releases bring back a flood of memories and the acrid odour of the VHS tapes and VHS machines too. Not only the visuals of VHS but there was that smell to that takes me right back to childhood. Most have the smell of something cooking to catapult them back down the nostalgic rabbit hole but for me it was electronics. Best 🦀

@LOOKLOOKLOOKAGAIN
@LOOKLOOKLOOKAGAIN 2 жыл бұрын
That episode of House is awesome - as well as, if not seen it before, a revelation - it probably wouldn't be made now as it would felt it would traumatise the child actors (though the kids looked like they were having ball being covered in red gunk) or children who may just happen to watch it - hence why we, in the U.K, will have strict online censorship if the digital bill gets parliamentary ascent - as usual, as in comics, cinema, video,computer games and now the internet the poor child is used as an excuse for strict censorship. I lament a Kronos series didn't surface and would lament if they attempted to do it now as too much marxism and cancel culture preaching would know doubt get in the way of decent storytelling and entertainment - well at least Kronos companion has a hunched back so that's a head start for the diversity mob. Oh Hazell - yes I have forgotten about that ! God now you are talking - my parents used to watch that but as I was so young and it didn't feature the doctor, avengers, wonder woman or vast amounts of gore and nudity I doubt if it would have held my attention. On single name programmes I can also remember Hywel Bennett in Shelley - for some reason the theme music makes me feel sad - don't know why - but thats another series of its time . Thanks for stirring up the pot of memories - always appreciated. Crab

Again,the memories flood back! My schoolyard talked of nothing else but those cracked bloody pipes on the Monday morning, l will never forget this series,we were enthralled,it was water cooler TV for my 10 year old self. The astounding John Carson and his crisp,eloquent South African voice gave a true gravitas to anything he put his talents to including the exquisite Plague of the Zombies but in the Guardians of the Abyss he glows as the Satanic Cult leader. Interesting tit bit.....The London Black Metal band AKERCOCKE who had considerable success and are actual bonefide Satanists used the complete opening scene of this Hammer episode on their "Choronzon" album with the very first track, "Praise the name of Satan" it's an absolute blast! Well worth the listen if checked out on youtube. Lord knows how they got the copyright clearance to do it? Sir Crab Apple has stoked the embers of my childhood yet again. There should be a Statue dedicated to you somewhere in England Sir,you are honestly a National Treasure. ❤❤❤❤

I dont know what it is about the pipe story it captured the imagination so well. The ones that scared me as a child was silent scream, trapped in the wired up house and children of the full moon - the werewolf at the window and 13th reunion - the twist ending. Many, if not all of these ended up with the baddies prevailing. Loved this series, was petrified. Great to hear from you. As you say it wrapped up things nicely. Journey to the Unknown is worth a view as it is an early example of anthology horror and thriller that spawned a lot of golden age series that followed the same pathway in the 1970's whether film or t.v. It's quite difficult to get hold of though. I enjoyed The Shout with Alan Bates - a very moody piece indeed. For season 5 I don't know as of yet what pathway it will take but stay tuned for sure. Am having a little break as exhausted. Will get the brain 🧠 ticking over to whip something up. Aim to work on new theme and opening credits. Feel a bit of sleaze may be in order but have to ensure it doesn't wind you tube up as don't want to end up in hot water and lose the more 'wholesome' reviews already on this channel. I am delighted to share that I have reached 1,000 subscribers which is a milestone and an unexpected one at that. Hi, sorry i'm late covering this video gem of yours hon but better late than never. First point i'm a bit of a Lew Grade fan and an expert as well.....small point, but he really pulled out of the film buisness because of a man named Robert Holmes-Court, an Australian whom he had recently taken on as his partner at ITC until he found that the Aussie was so unpleasant to work with he actually sold off his own company to him. It was a very sad day for the whole of the UK industry. Yes, this exciting show from Hammer was not bad, and TV by the early 80's WAS definately too safe and pointless for general consumption it's true. This was defiantely a move in the right direction but we needed more of them and by 1980 England was now under Thatcher and on the skids; plus it's not as tho anyone in the UK Film and TV industry ever knew what they were doing except Lew Grade so that as they say was that. No money being spent and in many cases no money to start with, but most of all no imagination at the top. Anyway, i really liked 'Journey To The Unknown' in 1968; as you say a true underrated UK gem.
