In this video I explain how I approach developing heavy forehand and backhands. I focus on what I’m thinking about in terms of the racket drop, swing path and timing to create lots of topspin.

The slow mo's really highlight well the 45% approach into the shot and letting the racquet head drop lower so it bounces upwards to generate the spin. Great, i can practice that in my drills

Good strategy: works against me except on the rare day that I'm seeing the ball well enough to take it early & punish opponent.

It's a good tactic against everyone. very hard to deal with most people.

It's what my opponents do to me, my backhand is weaker than my forehand, (I usally moon ball it back if it's too hot to handle) unfortunately I'm very right hand dominant, so won't work for me. I've often wondered why Rafa didn't go with left and right forehands, as he is clearly ambidextrous, he signs autographs with his right hand.

You can do the same in reverse. I used the same approach when playing right handed. Just hit your down the line forehand with heavy spin rather than trying to hit a penetrating shot.

I notice that, when hitting heavy topspin, especially on the forehand side, you use an inside out swing path but you don't talk about the swing path. Do you consider the swing path of lesser importance than the fundamentals you do address?

Um- how is your non dominant hand better than everyone else’s right hand? Awesome

Because I use brain based training to improve my vision and coordination. I can do things now with my left that I couldn't do with my right before I started brain based training.

I play less actual tennis that most of the players I know. Unfortunately I've had to deal with some autoimmune issues for a long time, so i have to manage my volume carefully. Which means 3 to 4 times per weeks at most. But I do spend a decent amount of time in my front room doing odd looking brain training exercises. And have just finished developing a visual reality vision training program to, to train my vision better. So there's that 😂

@@TennisHacker Can you go into brain based training ? Have you done a video on it.? I am right handed but have learned to play golf left handed and am learning tennis left handed. I would be very interested in your insights. How long have you been playing left handed from the time you started?
You'll never have a relaxed swing until you fix this!
