I was given a hammock by www.warbonneto... And I'm not sure I'll ever sleep on the ground again. Tents are great if it's nice out and you're not alone but I'm thinking that I may be a hammock camper for life now. This is not a Paid Endorsement I made a video a while back to say thank you for the hammock so I don't owe them anything I just really love my Hammock. Best nights sleep outside ever and at this point, I have slept in it 8 days in a row and a total of 20 times overall. I was sold that first time. When I slept in it and found out you can sleep flat and on your Stomach if you wish. In my mind, there is no way the Hammock could ever beat a Tent again. Of course, I say that now as a single guy someday I may have to rethink this position ;)

Kinda what I was thinking. You can still string the tarp in the trees and set up the tent underneath. Back when I was a kid when we used to go camping we had a 15x30 or so large tent set up. Just metal poles and a huge tarp over top. Everyone set up there tents around that so there was a big common area with private tents.

I watched this almost exactly one year ago, and I was absolutely convinced to buy a hammock instead of a tent. Here’s the problem: there are a million different hammocks out there, different configurations for the setup, tarp, and then the whole underquilt vs sleeping pad thing, then a separate mosquito net… LONG STORY SHORT it’s been a year and I still haven’t decided which hammock to buy for myself, since the amount of choice is paralyzing, I hate creating waste or buying stuff I don’t need or won’t use, and so here I am. And I blame you, Fowler. You did me fowl 😂
@arthurjones9644
@arthurjones9644 2 ай бұрын
Hello If you are still looking for an answer here is my experience in Florida - eno doublewide hammock - eno ember underquilt - eno bug net - Tarp of your liking If above 65 degrees all of the above work fine with a lightweight wool blanket or sleeping bag of your choice on top of you in the hammock If it’s below 65 degrees I add the snugpack banana shaped cocoon sleeping bag, but I still keep the underquilt below me If it’s colder than 55 and down to freezing (36) I add a pair of scuba or kayak neoprene socks. Because the only thing that gets cold is my feet at that point. I have camped this way for years in Florida totally warm and comfortable! I hope this helps you! God bless you and happy trails
@pedroclaro7822
@pedroclaro7822 2 ай бұрын
@@arthurjones9644 definitely some good tips in there that I’ll have to start using. As a cycle tourer I already have waterproof socks so yeah I might just get an extra pair for sleeping. I ended up going with the Amok Draumr. Sleeping pad lets me sleep on the floor if I have to, but I tend to avoid it so I don’t get a puncture. It’s also kinda heavy and bulky as a setup so I might just sell it for a lighter version or use it more for motorcycle touring. despite the disadvantages, it’s super comfy. Definitely worth the price.

Just looking at this video as what it is, a funny video, it's still pretty much accurate and for years I've just adopted hammock because it's so practical, fast, light and comfortable when you're only there for one night, there's nothing better. Of course tents have their own best pros like very cold weather, no trees area or some other specific situations. But for a random hike in a forest area, I will always pick the hammock over the tent.

People tend to forget that hammocks are not only very usefully in forest but also i' an urban area. Personally I do live in the city but went I look carefully around I often see spots where I can hang my hammocks with just the right distance It can be from a window protector to a tree or pillars. The possibility are so vast, but someone just has to be used to it. Hammok sleeping it's the best ✌️

Hilarious! I loved this. From the beginning, I could see which side of the fence you're on, and under these circumstances, I would definitely agree with you. I've slept in a hammock in the rain, and it was wonderful. No matter how soppy it got on the ground, I knew it wasn't going to bother me. By the way, I've relieved myself though the bottom entry of my Hennesy Hammock, but it's not quite as elegant as the move you portrayed.

I have both hammock and tent. Vastly prefer the comfort of the hammock for most camping, but you can't always find a hang in some parts of the country. Yeah, can do to ground with a hammock but that is definitely far from best. This video definitely showed why the hammock shines when setting up or striking camp in the rain! Yeah, he exaggerated things a bit, but not too much. I hate sleeping wet. It has NEVER happened with the hammock. I even slept hanging over a tiny stream one rainy trip.

I love seeing the hammock haters because of this video. Let’s be real, with a super fly it’s better than a tent. @MrDegsy69 5 жыл бұрын
That Aussie Bloke you have a small point about keeping warm but the risk of getting swamped on the ground is a lot greater in those conditions. If you use top and bottom down quilts on your hammock you can be as warm as toast. The trick is pitching the hammock leeside and taking advantage of surrounding shrubbery in the woodland to reduce body heat convection. The hammock went up a lot faster preserving body heat loss. The ground dweller just appeared to climb in surrounded with all his wet gear. Give me 'the Gods' everytime!
@MrDegsy69

@Brenton Lewis especially when you're pissed, soaking wet as you get in and the tent has its own moat! The humidity sauna effect is also wonderfull as all that ground water evaporates trapped underneath the securely pegged to the ground flysheet. Just think garden cloche! The hammock will always score for comfort in these conditions as ambient air temperatures are less critical with cloud cover. 😂😂😂
@Giixxersquid
@Giixxersquid 5 жыл бұрын
The best part is the guy in the hammock still has space for a Mylar 5 pack so he can use a single sided wall to trap heat while having a small bomb fire to assist with colder temperatures. Plus all the gear used for the hammock combined weighs as much as just the poles needed for a tent. Realistically speaking the hammock could be a much more viable option depending on where you are. Obviously a desert won’t work but you’re being ignorant by using that example. Not to mention you can hang a tent higher in the air so you don’t have to worry about snakes and other (small)creatures who will be looking for someplace to go in rainy weather.

I mean, if there's rain in the forecast, bring a tarp, some rope, and extra stakes? Run a ridge line between two trees, or from high on one tree to the ground, and set up underneath that? I think this is a matter of coincidence in favor of the hammock (had a tarp shelter anyway), versus poor planning on the tent guy's part. Of course the unprepared one will lose.

I like both. I was favouring the hammock, but had a very windy and wet night in mind last year. Since then I'm favouring the tent.

I've setup my warbonnet blackbird as a ground bivy with my tarp over the top using my trekking poles. Of course I happened to be using a sleeping mat but if I would have had my underquilt It would have been uncomfortable.

This is a case of P.P.P (Piss Poor Planning), taking a hammock into an unknown terrain is like taking an untested rifle on a hunt

I disagree. There are ways to hang a hammock wherever you want. Check out a video by Far North Bushcraft and Survival on this topic.

good question I've lived threw 3 storm in it one where the tree i was tied to blew over and I had to tie it to another so I didn't have to reset during the storm and slept well and woke up dry every time.

Slept in a hammock a few nights a week this summer and fall. Favorite place is by the creek! I almost did it last night. Saving for a van! One more month...
