Great advice! Thanks so much. My L-103 has been quiet and muddy for the longest time. Giving the percussion cutoff screw a wiggle totally did the trick. Now it’s so much louder and brighter.

I just did all that to one of the M-3's down in the garage and it sure improved things in a big way! Good activity for a snow day. I brushed DEOXIT on the tube pins. The sound was so much better. I unscrewed the A129 or whatever it is and found a little "100" tan cap that had come loose at one end; or perhaps had never been connected. I bent it to where it looks like it went (I'll sodder it lader). Now I need to address cleaning drawbars, this is a one family organ and very clean, but all the age related issues to deal with. Thanks for the heads up, KZbin is such a great place to look and I am so glad I watched your tutorial in the basics. Now I am a HAMMOND export!

Thank you. Your video description worked. Same as I’ve done with an old fender tube amp. 🎹👍🏽

On an M3 I found the shielded cables that come down from the generator and keyboards to not be actually grounded to the amp. Once I cleaned the connections with scotchbrite and then wiped with acetone, both the underside of the connector and the top of the amp where the connector screws onto the amp, the static and pops went away. Many do not know that acetone really cleans connections after scrapping especially on low voltage connections like batteries and line connections before an amp.

Great advice. The volume On the lower tier on my organ is lower than the top. How do I adjust it to match the top.

Great information. How do you adjust the volume. The volume on the lower tier of my A1 hundred seems very low in comparison to the top level. Is there some kind of adjustment or do I need to call and organ repair guy?

this is an A-105. that model has a full cabinet for church use primarily. the back is a solid piece of wood with arch cutouts for heat. so the inside is relatively protected. i am second owner and it's been in my home since 1979 so when i started working on it this year, it was pretty clean. however, i did clean the entire inside completely.

John, does the A-100 pop, or hum, or hiss? popping and humming are usually intermittent and may changing in character as the amps warm up. pop and hum are signs of bad capacitors. the capacitors in these instruments only have a life of about 20 years, so depending on when yours was built, they are around 50 years old. capacitors breakdown internally over time, they may still work and allow sound, but nothing like they should. I used a guy/supplier who sell capacitor kits, complete kits, for these organs. i replaced all of the can capacitors that came in the kits, not hard to do. the sound pretty much doubled. then i ended up sending him all three amps to have the rest of them and the resisitors rebuilt. so, if you have low sound, first check the TONE screw and the Perc. Cutoff screw. Do NOT touch the Hum Balance screw on the main amp unless you know for sure it has been moved by someone. the supplier is www.tonewheelgeneral.com great guy. remember, do the simple and easy stuff first... clean everything, rotate the screws, etc.

What is the issue when your volume won't change when you press the expression pedal down on an AO10 pre amp?

I found a broken wire inside the little box that connects to the pedal. I have a thread on the organ forum about it. I think it’s called “No sound from M-100” or something like that.

every time i turn my hammond on the c key plays on non stop i dont know what should i do
@MrFoz1234
@MrFoz1234 4 жыл бұрын
Maybe it's the contacts under the manual. Switch to a drawbar setting (if you have presets) and get all drabars at 0(for both manuals). If it continues to play the c note then the problem is in other place but. It really can be any keys that can play that C frequency you are looking for through the drawbars. But you just have to identify the key and dissemble the manual and fix the cupper needle that make the contact for that frequency in that key.

Question what if you hear that it is working well and it stuck on soft volume (meaning the petal won't make it loader ) could it be a fuse
@clickenkeys560
@clickenkeys560 7 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure there are no fuses on these A-100 model organs. check the swell (volume) pedal itself. that pedal is operated by light. the light bulb is inside a shielded tube with an opening in it. as you move the pedal to louder, more light shines through to the sensor. it is possible the light bulb is burned out. it could also be the light sensor. typically a burned out bulb puts the organ at full volume and a failed sensor puts it at minimum volume.

Can you help me with the wiring for the a-100 internal speakers. I have sound but it is not loud
@clickenkeys560
@clickenkeys560 7 жыл бұрын
probably not wiring. low volume could be many things. begin with what i show in video and go from there. next i would replace the can capacitors on the amps. you never know. i'm not an electriction or organ technician... so my knowledge is limited. try checking with tonewheelgeneralhospital.com. he can be VERY helpful.

I have a Hammond A 100 with no leslie. Sometimes when I turn it on after about 3 seconds it will start to hum but the hum is a deep bass hum, it matches the B note on the foot pedal. After about 15 seconds it fades away. What do You think the problem is? Thanks
@clickenkeys560
@clickenkeys560 7 жыл бұрын
without hearing it my first guess when there is humming it's almost always capacitors. that's first place i would start. there are big silver cylinder capacitors on all three amps. these go bad over the years (they only have about a 20 yr life). there's chemical in there with a foil divider splitting the thing into two sides. the foil errodes away and the chemical leaks to the other side... I had all of my capactors replace and no hum after that. I sent my amps to be tested and rebuilt to Tonewheel General Hospital and he put the new caps in for me. here is link: www.tonewheelgeneral.com/ he sells cap kits as well: www.tonewheelgeneral.com/build_page.php?item_no=AO-28CAP

i must also say, it was a pain to pack and ship the amps, but WOW! did the thing sound FANTASTIC when i got it all back together. i have a video on it somewhere on this page as well. the how to videos are good and the last one has audio of the new amps. it doesn't really do the organ justice but it's a sampling at least.

Clickenkeys there is a organ tech in my area, maybe he can do the job. It hums maybe 3 out of 10 times when I turn it on. Thanks for all the info and the video.

I have a swinger kimball and when i press the keys it makes no sound, or makes very light sound,or works fine for a day or two. and it smells after 15 minutes of use. And 97% of the keys dont work at all! what is it? Also it has none of little of the sound selection switches working!
@clickenkeys560
@clickenkeys560 7 жыл бұрын
that's a lot of what sounds like different and unrelated issues. I don't know Kimball's at all unfortunately. i would target one thing at a time. do what i show in the video first and see if it makes any difference. then probably figure out if the power supply is working properly. the smell is usually a bad capaciter or transformer on the amp... beyond that i'm afraid i can't help

John, would need more info regarding wiring if you think that's the problem. my experience was soft volume due to old capacitors in all three amps and a few bad tubes. it was a combination of a few minor things all adding up to soft volume. do you have popping, hissing, and random hums? these are signs of bad capacitors in the amps. if they've never been replaced, even if you don't have those pops, etc. you can bet they are bad. they may still work, but not up to factory specs. I replaced a few of the Can Capacitors myself and the difference was AMAZING. since replacing all of them was a soldering job i was not prepared for, i sent them to www.tonewheelgeneral.com and he rebuilt all three amps for me to factory specs. UNBELIEVABLE sound when i hooked them back up . if you opt for this, watch my video on how to unhook them so you can put them back in the organ correctly. also, tubes. I happen to have a complete set of NEW (some are NOS) tubes for all three amps if you are interested in purchasing them for backups, etc.
