I am looking at videos/sound demos of the Roland XPS-30, and as far as I know, it has many sounds ported straight from the Juno-DS, and I really like almost all the sounds of it, especially the layered keyboard sounds (Piano + various EP/DX/Pads/Strings/etc... type of sounds, but I just don't like its piano sound for solo piano :( Do you know a good keyboard with a nice(r than XPS-30's) piano sound that is in a similar price range as some of these 2 keyboards you mentioned in your comment? Thank you.

Hi Nick Suggestion for another video - if you have access to a Yamaha MODX or Montage maybe a review of the different organ libraries available?

If you want something weighted is the VR 730 the only option or are there older models that would be similar at cheaper prices?
@jazzplayer59 Жыл бұрын
I've owned one for 10 years...playing piano on a really short key bed that's not weighted can be daunting...decent and certainly playable in a band context...but, would not be my go to for a piano centric gig...btw, nice review as always.

Hello. I'm looking for a compact 61-key keyboard with speakers. The more stuff it has, the better, of course, but I want it to be portable. So you can put it on your lap. This keyboard seems ideal, the only thing I'm missing is an Arpeggiator. Can you confirm this for me? Does it have an Arpeggiator? Thank you very much.

Thank you Nick. I have just sold a Piaggero and bought a vr 09 mainly for the electric piano and Hammond like tones but finding the acoustic piano sounds a bit lacking. Yours sounded a lot better so I suspect I need to use better headphones. How are you amplifying yours in this video?
@nickfoleyuk Жыл бұрын
It’s a direct stereo signal straight into pro tools with no added effects.
@craigeddington-soulshineli39907 ай бұрын
Same hear Keith. I love this keyboard for live playing, lots of controls at the finger tips. The organ and synth sections are very passable for a budget synth. The piano sounds are horribly thin sounding. It's a pity you can't get into the synth engine to do something about it. I have also been wondering why the piano sounds in youtube videos sound so good. Maybe its running a stereo signal? For most small pub gigs and jam nights (my usual haunts) there isn't the capacity to run in stereo.

Hi Nick, congratulations on the video. I wanted to ask you if there is the possibility of expanding the sound banks of the Roland VR 09 with INTEGRA 7 or something else. Thank you.
@nickfoleyuk11 ай бұрын
Good question mate, I really don’t know I’m afraid
@higgy77629 ай бұрын
VR cannot import (expand) 'new sounds' - BUT VR has ca. 700 additional hidden sounds (e.g. 'synth legend tones' expansion from JP80/Integera and all sounds from Atelier-organs). With a 2nd midi keyboard you can en plus use about 2000 sounds in VR09 GM2-engine (including entire Sound-Canvas). To access the hidden sounds you can use 'V-combo ctrlr editor' for Windows/Mac or download the bank/program-change lists and use a DAW or external midi controller to send bank/PC to VR

I'm currently saving money to upgrade my keyboard for stage performance and since I already have an in-home Roland FP-30X and my (soon to be previous) Roland Go:K61, I was wondering if this one is a good option! Thankfully your video is not 8 years old and I can appreciate the quality. Do you think it's a good keyboard for performing on stage?

Hi Nick and congratulations on your videos. To date, can you tell us which in your opinion is the best clone or the one you feel best with? to my ear it seems that the crumar Mojo is superior to all. Good music🎶🎹🎹☘️
@nickfoleyuk Жыл бұрын
Ooh its horses for courses of course but I would say that the XK-5 (which is a clone after all) beats them, then the XK-4 but they are really expensive units. I really liked the Mojo sound but the overdrive had diminishing returns the harder you pushed it. A Mojo and a Lounsberry Organ Driver would be interesting. The Yamaha YC was nice, nicer than the CK and the Nord was, as expected, pretty excellent although to me a little less flexible in tone than some of the others. YMMV. I think its a close-run contest between the Mojo and the Nord, the latter having the better non-organ sounds to my mind. Mojo is relatively cheap however and it wont disappoint you on sound. I have heard some uncorroborated views that they can be unreliable so I would source that information out and discount it or otherwise before purchase. I found the one I had perfect in that regard. hope this helps

@@nickfoleyuk thanks for the advice Preziosi, I now have a hammod/Suzuki clone, and it suits me very well. As regards the sound with overdrive the clones all lose a little, as it is true that all the clones lose in the high part even with the clean sound. that is, the hx3 clone which seems very very reliable to me. the north like organ sounds doesn't drive me crazy. However, let's say that among the various clones, crumar Mojo, Viscount, Hammond XK, etc. etc. an excellent level has been reached. Thanks, and see you next video.🎶🎵🍀

I own a VR-09, and I must admit that out of all the modes, the Piano mode is the weakest (especially the acoustic ones, however the electric pianos were all decent) I mean it’s not horrible but I must admit that it would be better if the keys were weighted. In the end I’ll buy a Yamaha CK-88 for its Full 88 Weighted Keys, wider selection of different piano sounds.
