Beautiful recording and ambiance. I like this song , and many have recorded wonderful versions-this may be my favorite. Sonny and Gene played a nice version as well.

This is exquisite, and amongst all of the superb performances of this wonderful ballad, which offers unlimited scope for the creative and superior players, it sings, recites, calms, inspires, pleases, soothes...

Are you familiar with his autobiography "Rise Up Off Me?" If you are not, I strongly recommend it to you, the man is just as interesting as the artist himself.

Hate to compare, but I like this better than Bill Evans. Perfection really.

There is no comparison. Hawes is a melodic genius. There really aren't many like him unless it's Fredrick Chopin, who came about 100 years earlier. Interesting both lived to about the same age. I guess Hawes lived about 10 years longer.

Comparisons are odious, specially when it comes to two of the greatest piano players ever to walk the earth, but, yes, Hampton Hawes, as a piano player, was in a league of his own.
