I love this haunting melody by Hamp. My friend, you left so quickly at age 48. Saw Dex at the funeral. I remember when we went to hear Dex at the Lighthouse. not too much time passed before you left us.

My first time of this masterwork to say less, was the Fuki's version. Imagine how my soul felt hearing this. Saludos

This piece touches me everytime … yet it’s so unknown. Ryo Fukui’s version is sublime too! I also agree on the bass work here, it really compliments the piano without overpowering it.

As a reminder: I bought my first jazz album in 1971 for special price 23.90 DM (USD $ 4.00) in a small but fine record and sheet music store in Cologne on Friesenwall , near Rudolfplatz, which has not existed anymore for decades. I will never forget, I was 17 years old

Yes, and you're not bad on the piano Naj. Your own version of this tune was delightful and very complimentary to the original.

I'm near the same conclusion as well... especially because of My romance.

Breathtaking. All the musicians here are top players. They leave me breathless. The bass and the drumming are not from this world, let alone the piano discourse.

One of my favorite things forty years ago. Hearing this record led me to read Hades fantastic biography Raise up off me. Brilliant and under known.

Greatness personified in Hampton Hawes . Sensitive backing by Art Taylor on drums. Also see the best ever jazz piano solo of Summertime with Charles Mingus trio!
