This sounds like a cool addition to my radio arsenal. The Lab599 TX-500 is my main radio for POTA. I have the DIY599 PA500 amplifier coupled with the TX-500, this is an amazing duo together, great audio reports all the time while doing POTA. Looking forward to getting this new radio. Thank you Jason for making this video, all of your videos are awesome!!!! 73!!!

Very interesting radio. I hope that they make at least two (2) accessories for it: 1) An interface cable that would allow you to use a mil H-250 handset, and 2) A small hand-held remote control unit (RCU). This would allow the radio to remain in the man-pack and still be used. If they were smart, they would market a complete line of additional accessories including a manpack with Anderson PP power distribution and storage pockets for accessories, a matching 20W power amp/ATU, and a battery system. I included the 20W PA as this has proven to be the best compromise of output power vs battery life as shown by just about all of the current military manpack HF radios. Keep up the good work and enjoy Hamcation.
@schatzperson10 ай бұрын
Agree. In fact, what were they thinking with 10watts! , because 20 watts are "best compromise of output power vs battery life". And of course a mil audio connector.

I'm interested in the TX500 MP though it would be nice to have an internal automatic tuner. I always try to adjust my antennas to be resonant. BTW, 0.6 kg = 1.32 pounds.

I myself am not crazy about the Chinese made radios, let alone a Russian made one now. Yeah, I know Chinese parts are in most of the radios now, but I tend to lean towards the Japanese radios as they seem to have better quality builds and/or cleaner performance. Would rather have a simpler transceiver with cleaner TX/RX than a cheaper radio with more features and dirtier TX/RX. I do like that the TX-500 is made of solid aluminum blocks though. Again, just my opinion.

Excited to see how they manage a resonant 20 or 40 meter manpack antenna 😂 Guess a super antenna like model with “tape measure” whips may work. But not too long - or the battery may charge when you pass low hanging, domestic power lines

The world NEEDS handheld (HT) HF SSB/CW rigs! And so this is great to see! However, I really hope it has a built-in microphone, and PTT button on the side! (If it does, I'm in! If not, I'll pass because it is a big deal for us that want HF HT's). 73

Even Icom hyped up the 905 months before it was officially released. Ham Radio Outlet had a pre-order spot for it on their website. Nothing of the sort for this new TX-500MP. Not saying that Lab599 has to showcase ipcoming products, but it helps to solidify claims if they do.

If they made these 20w I would be all over it regardless of price, but I can’t justify that money for a 5 or 10w radio… my g90 is portable enough, just need to reroute some cables (minor inconvenience) and I’m good to go for 1/5th the price

interesting radio. hope to see sound card with rig control. but still Digi Rig a great item. I got one with discount code saved some money and got free carrying case which is great. Dennis at Digi Rig was very helpful getting me cables for non listed radio to work and that was a go ! I was so happy I told Dennis and he updated cables on his site to list the radio I have. my happy story is from Ham radio 2.0 / Giga parts and Digi Rig. all 3 worked together to help me make my Radio work FT8 and outher digital modes. and was the Radioddity QT60 (Anytone 5555N ) 10/11/12 mobile radio . working SSTV was fun. got a interesting pic from England . Derbyshire . was snowy like old TV . but MMSSTV working great. maybe a Bluetooth link for that radio would be super. even if just a add on . 73's

Already own the Discovery. I don't see enough perks to purchase this new model. The built in tuner is a nice addition though. That said, the MP seems to have a smaller screen and no tuning knob. UP and Down buttons instead ? No bueno. Thank you for the video.

It does not need tuning knob because in first its just modernized "professional" version of transiver - Discovery TX-500PRO ALTAI.
@beowolfso.60969 ай бұрын
@@dmitriy9543 Hello Dmitri, in your opinion, what makes this radio a Professional model?
@dmitriy95439 ай бұрын
@@beowolfso.6096Hi, firstly, the professional version of the TX-500 transceiver (TX-500PRO and TX-500PRO ALTAI) is open for TX in all range, and not only in the frequency ranges classified as amateur radio. Secondly, in addition to a professional radio operator, it allows a wide range of people to work on it, even if, for example, the frequencies on the channels were programmed by a professional. So the interface is such that functions that are not needed just for ordinary voice communication are hidden in the menu. It is necessary to understand the specifics of the country in which and what for the transceiver was created. Long distances, low population density and lack of infrastructure and communications in many parts of it. I was in this country 8 months ago, due to certain circumstances, for example, all commercial western satellite communications are not working there now. So HF communication is often the only type of communication. You just need to type "Discovery TX-500PRO ALTAI" in the search and will understand all from the photo better than from my poor English, 73.

Completely agree with you. The extended transmission range, unnecessary for HAM radio and built in tuner do not compensate for the small screen, the absence of tuning knob, the absence of three ports - can not be connected additional battery during charging of the BP-500 and no separate port for CW.
