Thanks for this review. I’ve been curious about this radio for a while but haven’t been able to decide if I should get this or wait for the new Yaesu. It was great to see this rig in action for POTA as this is one of my primary intended uses.

I have a iCom 705 as well and I like having options. This radio is so fun to activate with and it always blows my mind how well I do with it. I would not overlook the 599.

Its a beautiful radio - had mine for about 2 years now! but I just have to comment on signal reports. Most of them were 5 for quality but the second digit, shouldn't it represent the s meter reading?.... Just because something sounds like 59, it isn't always 59 :) '73

In field operations I generally report what I hear like a lot of operators do. S reports can be subjective, do you have your IPO on, or Amp 1 or Amp 2 or even your ATT, that would all effect what number I report so I generally go by sound.
