I have an Anytone 578UVIII Pro in my semi truck here with an MFJ 1414 dual band antenna. The receiver in this radio is absolutely amazing! I can consistently receive repeaters 45 to 50 miles away. Sometimes farther. I have been able to pick up repeaters over 100 miles away at times. Once you get the codeplug set right, it's really easy to use. I wish the scan worked a little better. When I'm scanning on the B side, and I have my DMR Hotspot on the A side, it won't hear when someone calls me on the A side. That's frustrating. But other than that this is an awesome radio!! I'm very happy with mine.

I received my Anytone AT-D578UV several days ago and started programming. This radio is able to receive airband frequencies so I set several airband frequencies at which my home base is able to receive. Everything works fine and I could pick up traffic on AM 127.05 MHz (ATIS Departure). However, yesterday I have no clue what I did to the radio so that it was no longer able to receive airband (precisely pick up traffic on airband). Before I found this issue, I just did few adjustments on the settings via radio MMI, and swapped the short press and long press of the channel knob to SP: AM/FM and LP: VFO/MEM. Apart from these adjustments, I have done nothing. I didn't even touch the coaxial cable and antenna. The airband then went silent... During troubleshooting, I found that there is a "S" icon on the radio display (see my photo) and I didn't remember whether or not this "S" icon was already there at the time I was able to receive airband traffic. I don't see any description about the icons in the manual and on Google. So, does anyone know what the "S" icon means, and does it cause this issue? I actually accidentally disconnected the radio power input during TX, that is, the radio suddenly shut down during TX. I don't know if that would brick the radio and cause this issue. I was about to give up because it didn't help even I reset the radio to factory settings and reloaded the factory codeplug. At about 23:00, I started listening to FM radio before I fell asleep. An hour later, at about 24:10, I decided to give the radio the last chance to see if the airband was available. Surprisingly, the airband function (particularly I mean ATIS Departure at 127.05 MHz) resumed to normal with loud and clear audio. I have done nothing at all - The radio seemed to automatically regain reception of the airband frequencies. Let's see if there is any malfunction of FM/AM reception. I shall update the issue later. PS: The way I discovered the malfunction of airband was by listening to FM radio for an hour. Now I (temporarily) regain reception of airband also by listening to FM radio for an hour. So "listening to FM radio for an hour" seems to be a key to success/failure.

Nice intro to the 578 video. I have one installed in my truck and couldn't be happier. One note I'd add is that this radio comes in 2 versions. There's a part 90 version that doesn't include the 220 but adds the expanded uhf/vhf TX channels ( VHF 136-174 MHz & UHF 400-480 MHz). Perfect for the Ham that uses a radio for work and personal use. If you're interested in that version, google "Anytone 578 part 90". Also, be sure to upgrade to the latest firmware. There have been many important updates since the radio's release.

I just bought one. I have the 878 and works great. But I just noticed that the 578 shows it only operates in 144-148. The 878 operates 135-174. I bought mine for ham and emergency services. Sometimes I need to direct the wing in for a landing or give them info. Kind of a spoiler.

Just came across this radio tonight. I am very excited about this unit. Looks well built. Came to it through bridge comm, who I worked with commercially years ago. I have the bc220 and it is an excellent rig, so I know if bridge comm is selling this anytone, it is nothing but good. Love the fact that it is a triband that includes 220. Love my 220, great band. The fact that it does both analog and dmr is a great plus. I have a dmr ht and got frustrated. So I am looking forward to taking the bridge comm university. Eric I have not seen any, or could not find any follow up video from this one. Other than the programming video. Keep up the great work. Stay safe, stay healthy.

Good morning Eric! I have seen your video review of the Anytone 578 and I have to mention that the radio does have APRS capability but it will not beacon at all if the radio is receiving a analog or DMR signal, in other words the APRS beaconing is totally disabled if the radio is RX-ing. Maybe in the future Anytone wil solve this with a firmware upgrade. Keep up, you are doing a great job and 73 from Romania!

I have to wonder how efficient that triband antenna is? With the thick element at the bottom it would widen the bandwidth so possibly making it resonant at all three bands.

By the way - watch out for the Roaming in the AnyTone - it drives traffic in the network between repeaters badly and causes all linked repeaters to transmit frequently just to allow the radio to roam. Each radio will cause a cascade effect in the net of repeaters, at least if you have Hytera repeaters linked together.

Thanks Eric, good review. I am looking forward to your further reviews on this radio. I too would have liked a detachable head but it’s not a deal breaker. I’m not as mobile as I used to be so I would probably use it more as base unit. I do have a Yaesu FTM-400 I am thinking of selling as I don’t feel system fusion has lived up to the hype, in spite of having 5 system fusion repeater. I have yet to have digital QSO through any of them. I spend more time on DMR with my Anytone D868’s anyway so this would be a great replacement for my FTM-400. We only have 2 DMR-Marc repeaters in the area, but I am able to connect to them just fine. I also have a Hotspot for access to Brandmeister, and the Hotspot works great for DMR, not so much the FTM-400.

Yes that is true, I experienced that when I made HF dipole antennas out of scrap LMR400 coax, it would cover an entire band with minimal SWR change, compared to a dipole made out of speaker wire. I was afraid to suggest this in the video because a lot of times the standard size dual band antennas are pretty broad already but I haven't put this on an analyzer yet..

My 2 cents. Yaesu is more mature by far and better quality overall. As far as sound quality and speaker volume on handheld, I like my 878 better. I have a hard time hearing some of my Yaesu radios with my old man ears but my 878 is too loud for anyone at full volume. APRS on the Anytone is missing decode which is a big missing feature for me. Also DMR is a different digital protocol than fusion/WiresX. That said if your just hitting a hotspot that to connect to reflectors you will be able to find most of the same popular groups on DMR talk groups.
@HamRadioConcepts
@HamRadioConcepts 4 жыл бұрын
I would say no, Anytone is not better than Yaesu, because of the years of history of Yaesu and the engineering behind their products in Japan. But I said several years ago that China will eventually get past the poor quality that we saw in the very first Baofeng radios years ago, and eventually produce some great radios. Some China companies still have garbage, but the manufacturer of Anytone is getting real close. There are people that want something else other than a Yaesu or Icom, and not only that, Yaesu, Kenwood and Icom do not manufacture a DMR radio. So there is no option to choose a Yaesu DMR mobile over an Anytone...

Yaesu is manufactured in Japan. Anytone is manufactured in China. Yaesu was founded in 1959 and their products were introduced into the United States in 1965. The overall quality of the Anytone transceivers far surpass any other Chinese manufactured transceivers currently being imported into the United States. However, the quality of Yaesu products are superior to Anytone's.

This looks like a nice radio, but that Font they are using the the text looks cheap. I hope they fix that and use a more professional looking font.

Sounds like a review that reeks of "thanks for the free radio review": Everything is perfect or great or wonderful. Being a fanboy when reviewing is a no no.

This not toward you Eric but no 5 watts on 220 is not acceptable if they are going to only offer 5 watts on 220 just leave 220 out all together. Thanks any way

Everything I read and saw says it is suppose to do 10 watts on 220 not 5 watts.

The bigger question… Why do radio manufacturers provide less watts on 220 vs 144/440? I have noticed this on HT’s and Mobile radios.

Good review, great radio, but, it's as confusing to operate as it is to program. The user manual is about useless IMO.

Overpriced, dual band (for those of us not in USA or Canada) radio. I know you want to sell this radio but don't be so desperate, I can hear the desperation in your voice.
