Best GMRS radio out there! Full 50 out the back. Link two together to make a repeater. It's an fm radio. It's a scanner. Dual VFO. Speaker in the mic. Detachable faceplate. Good audio. Superhet. It's a rad radio man. For sure. Had this since it first came out. The only drawback is the mic audio is low. You got to get on the mic. Put that mouth to the mic. Be great to have a desk mic with this radio. They do make a wireless mic for this chassis, but it needs work ... audio is distorted. They make a MURS version too.

I've just made my first GMRS contact the other day. Had the license for a while but never made any contacts until I got my Motorola xts 2500 programmed up. Might have to pick one of these up for my pickup.

Rig looks awesome & well built, already own a Wouxun KG-UV6D 2m/70cm HT which is a great performer, also nicely built & still going strong some 8 years later so have very good experiences owning Wouxun. Sadly, we don't have GMRS here in VK, ZL, YJ or 9Mx but an alternative service called UHF CB limited to 5W maximum, similar to our 27MHz CB service. The UHF CB class licence prohibits us from modifying a GMRS/MURS rig plus from memory the 440MHz band is allocated to VicPol APCO & other law enforcement which is all encrypted digital so no hope that VK will adopt GMRS anytime soon. Cool video Eric, the site is definitely worth visiting & thanks for posting your top quality content!

I have the KG1000G PLUS radio and use it as a Base station for my GMRS station, I have the Retivis 5 element Yagi @30ft. and I work stations all over NE Ohio on 50 watts FM, it's Awesome. I'm going to buy another 5 element Yagi and stack them for an antenna experiment this spring when I put up my new tower for my Sirio SY4 Yagi for 11 meters.

very good ! love that Nagoya antenna .do a video on that when you get it going. I got the Nagoya NA-771G on my HT GMRS. and I love it. so much better then stock antenna. also the Abbree 42in foldable is impressive. josh (ham radio crash course) did a review on them . I have that HT retevis RB 27 GMRS same as baofeng G11S that one green. just turn off the ctcss codes . came on . easy fix and program from windows PC. the UV5R cable works. for a cheap GMRS starter radio they great. also on mobile GMRS radios you can not transmit on ch 8 to 14. only receive.FCC rules. low power and narrow band with only. GMRS is $35 for licence now. FRS is free and MURS is free. thank you for supporting all radio ! 73's

The Wouxun KG-UV980P quad band radio is a tank, and when they were first being sold for only $200 at R&L they were a steal. Now that inflation has kicked in, and the quality popularly known, both the ham 980P and GMRS version KG-1000G are still great bang for the buck - even at $350. There isn’t a better GMRS radio on the market.

It's indeed the best GMRS mobile radio. Hope they revise it to provide a way to dim the display. Otherwise it is perfect.

I’d love to see a video demonstration on manually programming local repeater channels on the hand mic. I’ve been having some issues figuring it out and could really use the help. Haven’t found any other videos going over comprehensive instructional detail on how to do so.

Can the KG1000G Plus be paired with a KG1000G for a repeater? I have a "new in box" KG1000G that I have never installed, but have not been able to find a second matching unit to make a repeater with it.

I new to Ham Radio. Could you make a show explaining HF with SSB on a sailboat. Using backstay as antenna. I watched your episode on sending emails and was wondering if you can receive weather grib files at sea with that or would you still need a Pactor Modem? Ok thank you

@@alvintarrer6914 Yes... That old rental house I as at for 11 years really was a pity, but now I have purchased our forever home which is only 16 years old, with a pool and large shed, and garage... Lots of premium upgrades to this house. But It is tough to afford my own house in this market these days... I dont ever forget where I came from.. I grew up very young in a family with alcoholism which then turned into having to move quite frequently because of not paying the bills.. Thankfully, I learned from that, and my wife and I have never been homeless.. That rental was cheap but it was very old.. We were there 11 years, and that is a lot of time in one rental house. Now, I hope to be in our own home forever.. Thank you for the notice of where I used to be and where I am now... 73

Nice review. How active are the GMRS repeater/simplex freq's where you are at? Around here (Augusta Ga) from what I see, they are like the ham repeater/simplex, dead. Also, unlike ham repeaters where you can find the tones to get into them, gmrs here is you have to be a member of the group that runs the repeater. Now that might change in the future. Again a nice review.
