The FTDX101D is a great rig! After playing around with adjustments to the 2D spectrum display, I found the following settings worked well for me. Speed Fast3, Peak LV4, Colour-1 and Colour-13, RBW High, 2D Display Sensitivity HI. This is with a TFT Contrast set at10 and TFT Dimmer set at 7. Awesome fast white band spectrum display and great receiver as well! Not forgetting the scope Multi Level control either, which is great for waterfall fine adjustments for signal display depth.

Best review I’ve seen to date man. You have sold me the radio. I have got a FT101 and an FT101E. I recovered them both as good for parts or repair as advertised on eBay. It was so much fun getting them both working and guess what -- they now both run real good and are now getting me QSO’s / contacts world wide. The Yaesu FTDX 101MP is ordered and I recon I’ve earned the right to own one. What history will be in my shack .... this is just such a cool time for Yaesu owners. Thank you Yaesu and thank you for a great heads up video sir. Sincerely - your country cousin GI8WFA. 73.

I couldn't help but notice the ALC pinned in the corner while you were talking. This is why there are nasty signals up and down the bands! The ALC is there for a reason. Why don't hams pay attention to this and properly set their audio? Hitting the ALC this hard makes you 6 khz wide with buckshot and splatter and it sounds like crap.

Looks great. Waiting for the Sherwood tests. By the way, for some people here, Hf/6/4 mtr. and VHF/UHF in one radio, that's why they build mobile rigs. If one has a base radio, with all those bands and the filtering/SDR , I think would cost a small fortune.

I wish for Santa to design and bring me a radio like this that also covers 1.25m, 2m, 70cm, 1.2Ghz and offers plugins for other bands. Everything in a single box. Yes, I know all about putting all the apples in a single basket but for limited space, it would be a station maker in a compact form. Combined with Yaesu's nice Linear Amp, speaker module and other things like an external display this radio could put a Ham in Hamville Heaven. Great video Eric, I appreciate all your reviews. Having said that ,while the 101 looks nice it's not for me. In my 44 years as a ham I've owned many nice Hf rigs. I'm not an SDR fan, and I prefer a radio with power supply, I don't want to have to get a power supply for it after spending $4000 on it. It's still a 100 watt radio, and my recent radios are 200 watts, if I need more I turn the amp on but normally not needed unless I'm rag chewing on 80 meters at night. And speaking of the 101 radios I did buy one brand new in 1976 ,a 101EE...that too was an awesome radio and I still use it now and then... Yaesu has always had the best Noise reduction out of the big three, flex may be as good. So yes easy to use and the receiver is quiet already without it engaged, having the feature is a plus. I compared the 101d with the 7300,7610,ts890, and the frdx5000, its DNR and NB is light years ahead of the 5000, and by far better than the others

I went on a shopping trip while I was on holiday on the island of Penang. I found the radio supply shop near to the air field on the island. The radio had previously been on order before I got there. I was buying a Yaesu FTDX 101 for a Ham friend back down in Malaysia . All I had to do was introduce myself to the owner. Tell him that I had come for the rig that had been put on order for my friend. Check out the radio give the guy the cash and use the telephone to call a number that I had been given and wait for two army guys to come to the shop and ask for me. The army guys came in a Rover and took the radio away for me. It would be delivered to my friend back down in Malaysia by the AAC and flown by Beaver AC doing the mail run down to our camp airstrip where another member of our club worked. Military precision worked a treat to the last order. 73 de - John -G0WXU.

I have been an electronic technician and computer programmer for about 34 yrs. As per SDR and its definition: "Software-Defined Radio (SDR) is a new technology that offers a simple alternative to bulkier analog radio, adding more flexibility, performance and a smaller form factor. SDRs are everywhere nowadays, from your cell phone to your wireless headset and your cable modem." I believe latest radios are great, but do not offer the best for their price, or pricing is too high, or better said, overpriced radios. SDR, as its definition, and by using Air Spy and SDRSharp, you can really design a software, but dragging and dropping what components you want on your application, such as a water fall etc. In a short summary, and in my own opinion, such flexibility is not on any new radio, as SDR it is used to trick possible customers but on a non open source product. Therefore, such great filtering, etc, it is something that should be there to begin with, but then used SDR as the greatest and latest, with nothing new but a touch screen or any other interface. These new radios should be flexible enough so advanced users can get the benefits of what really SDR is. You are great at what you do, and I do state and mean that, but my opinion is against the manufacturers to against you. An example of this, look what Yaesu do on a 4k $ radio , and what Xiegu G90 does on a $449.00 radio. Still both non open source, but excellent features, one cheaper than the other. Another example is the uBITX or MBITX, the extra AGC circuit designed by a ham radio operator and also the Antenna Analyzer done by another ham. Flexibility, programming, and enhancing and cost effective solutions. A nice cabinet, and done. Keep up the great reviews you do. Thanks.

When I was a kid my dad used to be big fan of cb radios. He had lots of them, which we were using as like a mobile phone nowadays, but he also had station at home with president jackson, which was hooked up to antena that was visible from few kilometers (thunderstorm magnet). If I remember correctly he was exchanging qsl cards using this radio. At this time I was like 6-7 maybe and I couldnt wrap my head arround how did he get cards from all over the europe, while we could only communicate up to 10-20 kilometers using cb. He had a big cabinet full of cards. Over time he lost interest in this hobby and Im not big radio guy either, but whenever I see tool like this it brings some sentiment. Maybe its super noob question, but as a hobbyist what sort of use you make out of device like this? It looks like you could control air traffic with it. :D It looks very powerful and brings back some memories, hence my nostalgic comment :) I hope Im not going wind anyone up with questions like this :D

But I compared.this ftdx-101d with IC-7610. I love the 7610 in comparison. It looks like cnc machined out of high grade aluminium which has been SOX anodized black. Not a hint of imperfections. The 101d however does not make you feel it's a high quality feel. IMHO. 73

Great video. I have owned many yaesu equipment over the years until I bought Ft2000 after that Icom ic7600 and seriously and never thought about Yaesu anymore. No doubt Yaesu seems to have done a great job this time "but" I need to demonstrate reliability, which with ft5000 was a failure for the money invested. And also despite the fact that Sherwood numbers are unbeatable, you have to see it with real antenna and with very low signals. The display is very nice but I do not buy a radio to see a nice display I buy to do it in difficult conditions and it is at the receiver where I put the money and not on the display. HI if it is beautiful and listens very well without a doubt it is a winner. Many times laboratory if it indicates good things and then in reality it looks something different (it is my opinion). Only time will tell if it's worth it to return to Yaesu or wait for Icom's answer that I'm sure will be devastating. Great video Thank you for that. Great work of Yaesu
