I have used an IC705 in the shack, mount it up on a little bench about 10cm off the desk, use the mount holes to hold it down speaker on either side - great.

I still run the 991a in my van. I still like it. I also have the dx10, the dx710 and the dx101mp. I do love my yaesu. I use my ic7100 every day.

Great FUN ! That M & P coax hyperflex 10 FT 8 Wight coax will be great for attic. read the data sheet . temp range is given. I did get my Radioddity QT60 on FT8 with DiGi-Rig. just use anytone cable set. same radio. tricky to set up . getting levels right. Just keep power down or finals get hot. You 2 forgot the CHAIR ! wear you sit is important ! 73's

G'day Hayden. As one of the very few amateurs that I actually look up to you & based on your earlier love, praise & feedback on the 7300 in earlier videos I actually went out & brought one myself by the time I got to watch the video last night it was a shame to watch & hear TEO pour Ice cold water on the 7300 like they were last years radio's, ( why would you buy one, why would you want one as well as seeing if the 7300 could be out voted in the poll) I did look at the Yaesu FT-710 AESS ( which correct me if I'm wrong is the closest Yaesu ) in price but it just didn't do it for me having always been an Icom person the 7300 was where it was at ( To start with anyway ). You guys are very influential on the web & a lot of people look to you guys for help & advise including people still looking to purchase their 1st radio & ( In My professional Opinion as a senior comms N/W Engineer ) I think the 7300 should still be considered as being in the mix as a base / "portable" radio for a 1st timer. Now I don't know much about ther G90 or the 6100 ( The 6200 is not doing real well at the moment last I saw with the power issues that it's having & only being 8 Watts ) but the 705 I'm lead to believe is also a good "Starter" (QRP) radio but again that seemed to get cold water poured on it I don't know about anyone else but I'm still looking to purchase my 1st VHF/UHF radio ( for the shack ) & I can't decide between something that does FM / DMR, FM / D-Star or something that does FM / SSB. Do I get an Icom, an Anytone or something else, I don't know what is more popular DMR or D-Star then of course with Yaesu you have fusion, maybe its time to drop D-Star & Fusion & just concentrate on a standard like DMR which ( correct me if I'm wrong ) seems to be gaining a lot of popularity lately. May be there needs to be a part 2 of "Build the Perfect Ham Radio Shack" dealing with the perfect VHF / UHF / ( Digital " DMR, D-Star, Fusion" or SSB ) radio. Keep up the great videos. I bought an IC-706MKII last night. You didn't really mention it, but it was in my current budget. Once I get used to HF, I could upgrade but agree that Icom is overdue in making a new current model radio. The 7300 is old tech now. The X6200 did not excite me enough. The 991a is too complex. The 705 is good but no tuner for the steep price. The 706MKII also needs a tuner, but it's an affordable foot in the door to HF. I can't wait to play radio now. Woohoo. Lol

What is with the preoccupation with "ATUs"? A term I strongly disagree with (hence the quote marks) as they do no such thing. This stream was heavily biased to newer operators, giving them the impression that an "ATU" is the answer to all their antenna needs is flat out wrong. Rather you would be doing the newer operators a favour by encouraging they make and use efficient resonant antennas. Likewise extolling the virtues of a cheap low powered radio with a 10:1 matching range is counterproductive to making numerous and significant contacts. Speaking to the title of the video, to build the perfect ham shack, it starts with employing the best antenna for the purpose that is physically and financially possible. The best radio in the world can't make up for a poor antenna.

7300 is the VW Beetle of ham radio, everyone had one, Im always shocked how the 991a gets beat up, I have a 991a, i love this radio, i have the 7100, dont like it, cheers Gang 73

I'm an Icom guy and hearing the way he talks about the 991a he sounds like a wannabe edgelord (calling it a 20 year old radio). They're a popular shack in a box/ ham sat and even mobile rig. I prefer the more compact nature of the 7100 for a similar role, but the 991a gets an internal tuner and a real waterfall, two things I'd like anyways. This is a disappointing video considering it's supposed to be informing people prior to making a significant purchase.
