This video was a MAJOR help in understanding the hidden menu. I purchased an UV-K5 radio from Amazon for use in the US and discovered that I couldn't transmit above 146 MHz. The manual revealed that the "CE" version of the radio tops out at 146 MHz and I initially thought that I was sent a non-US version of the radio. But the hidden menu revealed an "F-LOCK" option where I can select "FCC"; now I'm able to transmit FM across the two meter band (144.1MHz thru 148MHz)!

I did this for a Baofeng GT-3TP for someone. I got great reports from the owner. She paid me to do 10 more. It is the easiest $100 I ever made. The radios are being shipped straight to me and should arrive in just a few days.
@realtyrocks1969 Жыл бұрын
I heard that it will open up to 220mhz but will only transmit at 1mw... Making it good for transmitting to a guy sitting right next to you. Provided you're talking loud enough and he can hear you. As in your voice without a radio will carry further than 1mw.
@nine7295 Жыл бұрын
@@indridcold8433 I own this model as well as others. Have you tested the harmonics? there is no proper filters for 220 as it's not designed for this band.
@indridcold8433 Жыл бұрын
@@nine7295 It only puts out just under a watt to 1.5 watts for the Baofeng AR-152. I have noticed the black ones seem to put out the higher power measurements over the green and khaki radios. Harmonics would be negligible with that low power. Besides, not being an amateur radio operator, I have not invested in a lot of equipment. I am merely a hobbyist. The Baofeng GT-3TP yielded much better results, 2.5 to 3 watts! The harmonics may be relevant on that radio. These radios are not mine. I do not keep them long enough to even consider testing harmonics. Often, the, "customer," waits for their radio while I do programming, software limit changes, or repairs. If I do not have my own radios. Investing in relevant equipment, besides an SWR meter, a dummy load, an old Bird meter, a small 80 megahertz oscilloscope and multimeter combination, would be considerable. I just can not justify a lot of radio test equipment unless I get licensed. After service and repairs, I have to take the operators word on how clear it sounds for on air testing. I can not transmit, save into a dummy load.

Not reverse polarity. It means that the pin is on the other side, while it's supposed to not be, according to the rest of the connector. Normally only WiFi products have RP connectors.

220 MHz requires a 220 MHz rubber duck/antenna, which everyone seems to fail to mention. The stock rubber duck does not cover the 220 MHz 1.25m ham band. Also, scanning on either A or B memories, or VFO causes the backlight to remain lighted during the entire time scanning is activated. Battery life will be shortened as a result, unless the firmware update addresses this malfunction, or there is some way, which is not obvious, to turn off the backlight while scanning. Sorry for the error, it is the 1.25 Meter band.
@johnwest7993 Жыл бұрын
Unless the rig is designed for 220 MHz the filters, (depending on what type they are,) will either allow nasty harmonics out, or will suppress the power output. That's on transmit. On receive that would mean it would either be deaf, or it would likely be more susceptible to out of band interference.
@Spirit_Of_Prophecy_777 Жыл бұрын
@@johnwest7993 Also true. The radio does not transmit more than .250 watts on 1.25cm band, 1/4 of 1 watt. The TX range is severely limited unless you use an amplifier, and an external antenna. Even then, radio performance will likely suffer and be degraded. But, it, at the very least, requires a suitable antenna to prevent damage to the radio.

Is the Nagoya NA-320A a better antenna for this radio?
@presw2pw123 Жыл бұрын
The phrase "reverse polarity SMA" is incorrect. The Chinese antenna has what's typically referred to as a socket and the radio has a plug, but that doesn't make it reverse polarity. Typically the Japanese manufacturers have the socket on the radio ("outie") and the plug (what you would normally find on the end of the cable) on the antenna ("innie"). The Chinese radios have the plug on the radio ("innie") and the socket on the antenna. I feel this is more sensible as if the antenna were to be forced off the socket/antenna would be ruined, but the recessed plug in the radio chassis survives. I have seen the Japanese approach rip the connector off the chassis of the radio- quite a mess. If you took a Yeasu/iCom/Kenwood antenna and a Chinese antenna you would see they mate (uselessly) but it shows the difference. The closest concept to "reverse polarity" would be "reverse pin" which is done on routers. In that case the pin is received into the antenna which has a plug, and the socket on the router has the pin.

The radio is unavailable, but at least it popped up and said it was unavailable when I clicked your link. When I went directly to Amazon, it’s nowhere to be found. Completely gone. April 3, 2023.

I'm looking for two radios that should only be used with each other and should work about 2 km in the city! Are these devices suitable for this?

Hey guys! It is better than the UV5R? based on a community i joined, only the "air channels" are trashy, so if i would listen to airports etc, it will be so crappy that i cant even hear what they say, and watching a test on youtube (which was not as close to the airport as you did, but actually we have 1 or 2 airport close to us ;) ), its really a negative thing. But other than that, can someone explain to me, which one is better and why? Pro/con? Im planning to gather a bit of money so i can buy both, but it will be a big help to know more information :)

I nearly got this radio as the advertising information said it was an airband transceiver. I have a license to transmit in airband frequencies, however, the price seems to jump to 500AU dollars. Does anyone know of a transceiver that will operate around 110.00 to 120.00 range. 121.9/124.4 for example

I have a FTA550L. It’s a bit more, but look to see if you can get a decent deal on just a FTA250L. They are very basic Airband transceivers. I take mine to the DZ weekends that I skydive, just to monitor the aircraft and know status of loads.

Hey mate, will only TX from 136 MHz and above. Cheers thanks for watching

Can you unlock TX on freenet (149,0250 bis 149,1125 MHz)
@W-733_KWX11 ай бұрын
This would not be allowed to transmit on freenet as the max power allowed there is 0.5W, likewise on pmr.

You could have used a dummyload on the 200TX. 😉

That's just a standard SMA male (like the Baofeng), not an SMA-RP, correct? Nothing "reverse" here really, right, just a male connector on a chassis.

I bought "Baofeng UV-5R 8W Ham Radio Handheld Long Range UV5R Two Way Radio with Double Battery Extra Programming Cable Speaker Mic Rechargeable Walkie Talkies (Black-8W 1Pack Full Kits) "
