Nice to see the experimental factor of amatuer radio being explored far and wide!
@Aussie_Ham_Radio3 жыл бұрын
Yes. It is the true spirit of amateur radio. It's not traditional. I like it how some of these things are put out there for people to experiment and may not have been its first intention - Who would have thought old office phones could be a ham radio shack tool. Some people will come up with ways we haven't even thought of to keep things alive.

@@Aussie_Ham_Radio i think there's definitely a crossover happening now with information technology in the hobby... While this has been happening for a while it's most certainly a more dominant factor. Some people are not enjoying the adjustment but it's most certainly here to stay. Cheers Roger VK2VRK

Great video, I’ve got HamShack hotline phone in the shack as well. I Personally don’t use it very much but it’s nice to have another gadget available.

G’Day mate! Great video explaining hamshack hotline. I host a KZbin channel that helps to encourage people to get into amateur radio as well as license up and find out about new modes that we can use. This video was brilliantly done. I’d like to use it to talk about Hamshack Hotline, as I recently had a viewer of my live channel bring it up. I’ll be sure to credit your channel as well as put a link to it in the description section of my video. Thank you sincerely for making this video. Meet, it wasn’t too long, it was well organized and explained things in a way that even someone who may not be a licensed amateur can understand. Thanks and GOOD DX mate! Larry de K7HN

Thank you Larry - Yes feel free to pass on the video - most information is still relevant. Some of the websites I believe have changed but the concept is still the same. The whole idea of sharing information like this is to encourage not jut new people but existing people to use but more importantly spark that new idea to take existing technology and say here’s an idea you might not have thought of before. To me that’s the brilliant experimental minds of people in our community that can take it to the next level and do things that we haven’t thought of before. Sometimes it will be someone look at it and say how about you try this with that. I did it off the top of my head to put something quickly out there. Keep an eye out on other KZbinrs accounts as we are talking about HH in a livestream on Ham nuggets

Can someone explain to me if there is a difference between UNLOCKED and Factory Default. Also, what is required to UNLOCK and Factory Default a phone? Lots of phones on ebay but most are just taken out of service and do not say UNLOCKED and Factory Default as request as the way to purchase from the hamshack hotline website.

Thanks for the message. I too am confused by this. When I buy them I always ask if they can check that it is unlocked. I was under the impression you can factory reset but I am not sure if a manager has put a password in it if that gets removed in the factory reset. Maybe if you do a firmware update it might remove the password but maybe you need the password to do the update. If anyone else can shed light on this it might be helpful

@@Aussie_Ham_Radio There are a couple things you need to ask. The first is they need to be able to connect to the phone using a computer. When a phone is connected to their router it gets an IP address. Knowing that, they type that into whatever browser they use. If they can get into the phone without asking for a password, that's the first hurdle. Next they need to look for "Customization" on my 525G2 it's under Product information under the User Login tab. It needs to say "OPEN" that means the phone is not LOCKED to a specific provider. Next you need to look for (Under System Configuration) Restricted Access Domain" this needs to be BLANK. If both of these are not as I stated, from my reading it means the phone is locked to the previous provider and you won't be able to use it. I have read the 525 phone can delete the User login in Password using a special keypad entry but I did not want to take that chance however several have told me it works. I have that keypad entry somewhere that will clear the Admin password but it won't fix the Customazation and Restricted access domain entry. If your interested, I can forward you what someone sent me on what I just said. I assume this is your call sign and if in QRZ I can forward you the info. Ken

Hey Glenn just a question i have set up my phone and have rf links done and when i connect to my allstar node and it says connected and shows up on my supermon but for some unknown reason i can't use the *99 or # but if i connect to another rf link somewhere in the world it work fine.
@Aussie_Ham_Radio2 жыл бұрын
Hey Brett. Yea it can be a bit hit and miss. I have tried the rf link to some guys in the states. They used to punish a directory. I found some were locked and others open. I had a chat on the Rhode Island one night and it went out rf there as well but others say connected and I’m not. I have had some issues with the Asia server but the US server or the experimental works ok
@brettvk4bde2 жыл бұрын
@@Aussie_Ham_Radio Hey Glenn i sorted it out. It was pretty silly. When i connect to my node a message would pop up saying connected to my node but below the message there was a tab saying OK so i pressed it and i could use *99 and hash :). After looking at the wiki page it said Recieving messages from RF links so iturned it off and now all good :)

Hamshack hotline will block/ban the users IP address that has BLF enabled
@mrwizworks3 ай бұрын
@Ham-radio-3.0 Not anymore. That was a break fix measure, and walking away from BLF was a very hard (but right) decision. BLF presents a lot of drag on the server CPU (with over 10,000+ connected endpoints and counting) and we had to do this to improve stability and reliability, both of which are mission #1. Today, we simply drop BLF subscribe packets at the cloud firewall.
