Did the rae lake loop (clockwise from rds end) in '16, but we didnt encounter nearly that much snow over glen pass. I just watched your hst documentary on amazon. [Awesome]. In '17, we trekked a short section of the hst from bear paw over k-gap and down Arroyo while on a loop route in/out of min king. This summer, I've got permit secured to crest kearsarge pass and hit up mt whitney (pending weather, of course) on the way out. Your jmt vid was also fun to watch. Thanks!!!

There are many backpacking videos out there these days. This one is unique. It stands out from all the others. I really appreciate the care you took in everything to create this. Thank you! I am backpacking Rae Lakes this August 2022. Just curious, during what time of year was this filmed? You mentioned a high snow year and all but I’m relatively new to the Sierras.

Heya! I believe it was early July. That was a crazy high snow year. Might be comparable to this year so it may be wise to bring an ice axe and micro spikes. I’d definitely monitor closely.

Very cool and entertaining video - Thanks! I remember coaxing my wife out into the wilderness when we were about your age. Some very fond memories... And she doesn't even hit me any more when I bring them up. Hope you don't mind a question - what time of year did you hike? Some of my friends and I are planning on hiking out there middle of August and this was another high snow year and I'm wondering how the passes will be. From the frozen lakes in some of your shots, I am guessing your hike was quite a bit earlier in the summer perhaps? Just wondering about the need for crampons and ice axes. TIA for any info.
@OutmersiveFilms
@OutmersiveFilms 5 жыл бұрын
Glad ya liked it! It was early July if I remember correctly. If you’re going early to mid summer this year, an ice axe and light crampons might be a good idea for Glen Pass.

Chris, Yeah I figured it was still "early" in the epic 2017 season. Kudos for getting over Glen Pass under those snow conditions. It's a tough climb in good conditions. My wife and I camped surrounded by snow at Big McGee Lake in the eastern Sierra in Mid August and the creek crossing was still scary. Your videos are great but I predict it is only a matter of time before you go to full frame cameras like the Sony A7R3 for the still photos. Imagine "Painted Lady" taken with a full frame lens. You are not just creating documentaries, you are creating art.

damn. talk about jumping right into the deep end. tough hike for your first hike. waist high water crossing?? that is nuts. I'm not sure I would do that in the Backcountry. maybe a pond or ditch but a raging river. hell no. walk in-walk back out is my motto. I've gotten washing machines a few times. and in half that water. the worst time ever wearing full backcountry pack fly fishing between camps off a log into a nasty freestone creek. 😅😅
