I LOVE hamsters. They are kind, and once they warm up to you, they can be very affectionate. One sad thing to consider, however, they have very short life spans.

Yes!They are wonderful little buddies and i loved doting on them. Ive had 6 over the years and their life span is the only down side, imo. The fact that they're genius escape artists and always one step ahead of you is just a challenge.

- mice are burrowers just like hamsters - "teddy bear" hamster is name for long-haired sirian hamsters. It's fur type, not breed or specie - hamsters are not climbers and shouldn't be provided with climbing structures. They are bad in climbing and can fall easily. If hamster climbing, it probably does this because of boredom or small cage (less than 100x500cm) - fruits can be too sugary for hamsters, especially for dwarfs. Hybrid dwars are prone to diabetes

Please stop telling people that hamsters climbing is normal!! It’s actually a stress behaviour and can cause them to get hurt if they fall!! This behaviour means that the cage is too SMALL. (Victoria Rachel is awsome) Other than that everything else is pretty good. 😊

But hamsters do like climbing, it's in their nature to climb anything Mine are constantly out in my room exploring and running around and one of their favorite activities is to try and climb my closet and bed, sometimes they even climb back inside their own cage when they get bored and then climb back out when they wanna explore again

Yeah, I took in a hamster for a neighbour who bought him for their kids but the kids didn't want him. He was lovely but I was concerned about the cage they had him in, it was too tall and he kept climbing. He fell and hurt himself just a few days after I got him, before the new cage I'd ordered arrived :( he died the next day. Poor thing, he was a sweetie. That cage was a death trap.

PLEASE! DO NOT FORCE YOUR HAMSTER TO UNPOUCH IN YOUR HAND! And parents, please do all the research you can before buying your kid one as a first pet! They are nocturnal and DO not like being woke up and may bite! They need alot more space then what the pet store will try to sell you. Please mmake a well informed decision when choosing a hamster as a first pet! They are not cheap to keep and need ALOT more space then you might think! They are not disposable pets because they are inexpensive to buy initially. Please be responsible. And please do your home work! I had a long haired Syrian hamster and this mf'er was an *escape artist* . She would balance *ON TOP* of her wheel before pushing the lid off and escaping to my closet. I had to weigh down the lid with a couple Ann Rice books and tried so many different cages cause she somehow managed to unlock the locks during the night 😆

What kind of cage do you have? If they are in a small cage or don’t have enough enrichment, they will try their hardest to escape.

@jenniferbaez1725 it's been a few years but I had the cages specified for those hamsters (and there were so many 😫) they werent guinea pig sized cages though, a bit smaller. But eventually, I got one of the big glass tanks with the mesh top/lid cause it was the easiest cage to manage her escape attempts. Whenever she did escape, she would always go straight to my closet and hang out there until I found her. 😅

I miss RainBowDash sometimes, she was the cutest!! I only had her for six months, a dwarf hamster but a sweetheart, she died peacefully in her sleep after burrowing herself which she always did when she was gonna go to sleep, I still feel guilt even after years because…I wasn’t the last person she saw before passing on, I was out of town and someone we knew was taking care of her, I sometimes cry about it because I wanted to be the last one she saw before passing on, it also made me wonder about her death…Because I was gifted a beautiful fragile angel statue when I had her, I turned to her and placed it next to her cage saying “Look Rainbowdash! This will be your guardian angel, since mom says we all have one!” About I’d say 4 months later it fell off the counter where her cage was and broke(thankfully not the whole thing but part of it’s wing and a bit of her dress) I was sadden but I still placed her next to the cage saying “It’s okay…she may be partially broken but she’ll still continue to watch you..” and then 2 months later she passed away…I sometimes wonder if that was I sign, I still have the angel today and will take it with me to college next month with my cat, because I know, RainBowDash is in her little angel watching over me through the statue…I may be broken like it, but she continues to watch me…You may have left me when I was 9-10 and now I’m 18…but you’ll always remain with me no matter what…Thank you my sweet little angel..

There is no “long haired teddy bear hamster”, the only domesticated hamsters are syrian hamsters (longhaired and shorthaired), roboroski dwarf, Campbells dwarf, winter white, and Chinese hamster. Campbells dwarfs and winter whites are the only hamster species that can breed (sadly) so most of the hamsters in pet stores labeled “dwarf” are usually a mix, which can cause a lot of health issues. I know in Peru they have delicacy called Cucuy it’s a guinea pig. I learned that when I visit there. Ive got two mice but not hamsters did you know that mice need lots of love and care if you want two boys be prepared for them to be smelly if you want two girls they are adventurous and love to be held a lot if you get a boy and girl we all know what will happen....... They love to have lots of exercise and to be held. My top tip for my little girls that i do for them is i have a harrness for them so they can run around the house you can also use hamster balls, yourself etc. So if your thinking about geting a mouse READ THiS but get two girls there better.

I hate hamsters there alot more aggressive than mice and rats and often will bite you alot when you first get them (not common with rats) and they die really easy
