Everytime you get to the TBC portion of these videos you can see the viability of these specs increase exponentially. As someone that put together pug raids for gruul / mag on private servers, getting optimal group compositions with hybrids really made all the difference. I want an official Blizzard TBC Server, it's by far my favorite time period of WoW. Almost every spec brought something useful to the raid so you could truly play whatever you wanted. Maybe in another few years we'll finally see an official server ;'(

Yah, if that thing is required, I wouldn't even bother. What's the drop chance on that thing? And don't forget that you can only do 5 instances per hour, so even if you could get there quickly, it wouldn't matter. Could you even get 1 per hour? EDIT: according to wowdb the drop rate is 40%, so you could get 2 per hour. You would need 2 to do 1 boss fight. This clearly isn't something you would use all the time. You couldn't. You would need like 20 per raid, assuming the raid was on farm mode, and you didn't wipe. That's 10 hours in gnomergan. That's just 1 raid too. We used to do MC, BWL, and AQ40. That's up to 30 hours per week in gnomer, if you wanted to pad the meter the whole time.

Feral is by far the most interesting and engaging spec in Vanilla. You have the most complex rotation, you can off-tank and DPS and even off-heal/remove poison on certain fights and you maintain PvP effectiveness with that same build. Feral would be the ideal spec if it weren't for all the extra farming they have to do before Raids, you're spending triple the amount of time as most classes. You're spending hours farming both melee consumables, mana consumables AND crowd pummelers. It just isn't feasible if you don't have tons of free time.

20:35 I mained feral in wrath and yes, threat was a huge issue. Cower, our in-built threat reduction ability was absolute garbage because it reduced threat by a fixed value rather than a percentage, so the better our DPS and gear became the more useless Cower became. In WotLK your BEST friend as feral was hand of salvation, a buff our paladins seemed to never give me, meaning I was TPS capped on almost every pull without it. It was pretty unfortunate! But without any threat issues, or a tank who could stay on top of threat and knew how to taunt properly, you could absolutely destroy the meters.

Nor Shedo, nor you have mentioned the downsides of feral DPS specs: PvE: 1.1. Itemization is horrible: you need +8%-9% hit chance and most melees struggled to get it in pre-BiS phase. But T1 and T2 pieces for rogue had "+hit", same with mail and plate offset gear for warriors. Even if you get r13 (Field Marshal) epic gear (as did I), you will still have to replace some of it's pieces with blue pre-Bis for "+hit". However in later patches like AQ you will have plenty of off-set pieces, 1.2. No gear with "feral expertise", which means that some of DPS will be wasted on glancing blows. 1.3. There are almost no leather pieces in T1 content and only a few in T2, so you will be raiding for almost free. 1.4. Most RLs prefer to gear up rogues and warriors first, so be prepared that items like Band of Accuria or Drake Fang Talisman (DFT) will be given to them (or even hunters) first. Even despite that ferals need it much more. 1.5. You may have to maintank or off-tank, decurse, some will demand innervate for healers, some will require BR. This of course will have a negative impact on your DPS, so in the end you may be somewhere in the bottom od DPS chart => sustain the bad stigma. But the worst part is that for each activity you will need a separate set of gear: all your bank slots will be used for like 5-6 different sets. 1.6. Consumables: unlike most classes, a jack of all trades needs consumes for every possible role he might cover. First of all, this costs a lot of gold, which you will have to farm a lot. Then you will definitely need to farm tons of Manual Crowd Pummelers, at least 1 for each boss. Given the roughly 30% drop rate, you will be able to acquire full citizenship in Gnomeregan and some mob packs will /salute you on sight instead of attacking =) 1.7. Feral DPS scales with gear and enchants much worse than any other melee class. Even the Feral Attack Power weapons won't save the day. 1.8. The worst part: every single fury warrior with some prot gear may be as good offtank as you. 1.9. You provide +3% crit chance buff to a melee group at the cost of like ~30%-50% lower DPS while increasing their for like 5%. Mathematically speaking, it's makes more sense to get a rogue instead. Now let's talk about PvP: 2.1. At inial stages of game ferals are awesome: they are able to kill any class in 1v1 duel due to high initial base stats. All pre-Bis gear has quite low armor, little stamina and so on. Therefore feral can nuke a clothie in like 2-4 GCD. Rogues don't pose a big threat because FF ruins their re-stealth rotation and bear form gives you enough beefiness. 2.2. However after T1 becomes more or less common, kitties start struggling, mostly because melees get their shiny new epic weapons, clothies get more HP and armor, while kitties stay almost the same (no new gear, 'member?). 2.3. With T2 release "pure" ferals (with 31 points in according tree) become useless: no damage, no CC, no survivability. Rogues stunlock like crazy, mages get enough mana to maintain a 2-3 mins long duel, while you start to run of mana due to reshifts. Warriors with Ashkandi or even BRE are able to 2-shot you with a couple of of lucky crits even in bear form. Actually you become on par with BM hunters pets. 2.4. As a result, you will have to spec to a hybrid build and mix your gear with some healing pieces which means that you will get even less damage, but get some survivability. 2.5. Resto spec is head and shoulders better for carrying flags at WSG: more mana for heals, decurses, reshifts and so on. 2.6. You may be a good anchor (defend a flag) at AB, however resto is more preferable. Also it's so boring, especially if you are ranking for 12 hours a day. So yeah, ferals may be viable, but you will have to put at least twice the effort as "pure" classes, while getting twice worse results in return. by Zakharia (lightbringer) - r13 feral druid.
@GniinG6 жыл бұрын
thanks for all of this. i admire people that want to show that feral (and some other specs) are "viable" but yea, they often forget to mention the bad side. People mainly want 2 things generaly : doin less, looting more. Getting bis asap, avoid to farm excessively. After vids like that, ton of people will run feral without the same dedication this guy have... and it will result in bad experiences, for the druid but not only him.
@ZakPrestor6 жыл бұрын
I've seen outstanding ferals that were able to compete with really good warriors and rogues and even beat them on DPS meters. So the best feral might beat a good rogue, but still will be nowhere near the best representatives of "pure" melee class (and after AQ -- even casters). Retri paladins and ench shamans may feel in the same boat as ferals (in MC and BWL they are way behind kitties), but they make up for it in PvP.
@ZakPrestor6 жыл бұрын
@Shedothedruid If you are considered a DPS, everyone will check your DPS first, and only then other benefits you provide. The fact that you can beat r13 warriors means only one: these guys are bad in PvE, period. Legacylogs only shows that usually there are no feral druids in speedrunning guilds for a reason, this is why it's fair enough to compare top-10 rogues with top-10 warriors with top-10 ferals. Once again, of all ferals community only ~5% will be lucky enough to get into decent guilds where raid leaders might understand your needs, concerns and appreciate all the work you do to be competitive. However after THIS video lots of players (also deluded by modern BFA standards) will roll a spec they will hate eventually.
@ZakPrestor6 жыл бұрын
@Shedothedruid I actually don't see how your point contradicts mine. Under certain circumstances a well-played druid in a decent guild with an understanding RL will shine if he is treated properly. However most guilds are not like that: many RLs are extremely narrow-minded, some will even be incompetent, for some the most valuable sources for them will be 15-yo guides or personal experience. So dedicated kitty DPS will have to put extreme efforts to break these stereotypes. And still the fat that you will have to work twice as hard as an the best rogue to be roughly on par with an average one stays true. If you are in a #2guild raid this means that a decent chunk of players there are undergeared as well. This means that the fights are longer => you have more time to fully exploit your sustain dps potential. But once people in raid #2 will start getting their epic weapons and off-set pieces, you will see how the gap with your main competitors increases.
@ZakPrestor6 жыл бұрын
@Shedothedruid feral's worst problem is that they don't scale with weapon damage, which can't be compensated by more than generous scaling with stats and high ability multipliers. Just wait until some ppl in your raid-2 get their epic weapons and t1/t2 sets get their final "progression" updates. You are precisely at the stage of the game when t1 and t2 sets are starting to get unnerfed, so more and more people will swap their old pre-BiS for shiny epics. Pummelers make a great deal: you need at least 10 for a raid, they have like 30% droprate => 30 runs before a raid. Each run is like 5-10 mins, but if you take into consideration some PServers restrictions of only 5 resets per hour... And finally, being in top-guild means you will have to compete with top-players that know their classes really well. This is why I'm estimating at least 50% difference between a similarly geared and skilled rogue against feral in terms of DPS in a competitive speedrunning raid. Personally Feral is my all-time favorite spec, and wouldn't bother much with my raid performance if x/31/x spec was any decent in post-BWL PvP.

>"in the beginning stages [of TBC] feral druids definitely struggled to keep up with other classes that weren't so gear-dependent" No no no! It's the exact opposite. Feral has strong baseline DPS but poor scaling. Think about it for a second: You get shitload of free stats from your talents and your most valuable attributes are base stats, there's a lot of built-in damage in your abilities (264 damage on mangle vs 98 damage on sinister strike, say) and many high-end items (starting with the old classic, Wolfshead Helm) are readily available. Conversely, you barely benefit from haste because such a high percentage of your damage comes from spamming abilities afforded by powershifted energy and little from autoattack, you gain no benefits from windfury totem or weapon enchants, there isn't much "feral cat" itemized endgame gear (ie. strength and agility, no ap/crit/haste), there are no positive feedback synergies or additional scaling factors (such as warrior rage mechanics allowing them to use more abilities with higher gear, or increased uptime on improved shadow bolt for locks) etc. The very start is when feral is the strongest, relatively speaking. They only fall off from there.
@ZakPrestor6 жыл бұрын
I rerolled feral at the beginning of TBC and had relatively similar feelings: gear updated didn't give much desired DPS, but when Sunwell patch has been released and lots of epic catch-up gear was added, I felt a big difference. Same goes with Vanilla: ferals are extremely powerful at the start, when none has decent gear and at Naxx with it's abundance of stats on every piece. Crit and agility -- these are what make a huge difference, allowing kitties to generate more CP and spam finishers more often.

@CaptainSweatpants905 жыл бұрын
@@gaarakabuto1 I mean, that highly depends on how many of these you want to take with you. Technically, if you expect any given fight to last around 5 minutes (and while I haven't played Classic since... well, Classic, and I don't know how long the fights actually were, I guess that's a conservative estimate), you can completely use up up to 3 MCPs per FIGHT. In a Raid like MC, discounting any failed attempts, you're looking at 30 MCPs used. Now let's assume it had a 50% drop rate (which I'm sure it didn't, but let's just go with that for simplicity's sake), and let's go with your 5 minutes estimate per run. That puts you at 10 minutes per Pummeler, for 30 Pummelers. Which adds up to 5 hours per raid. Just for the Pummelers. And you need a couple of other consumables as well. I don't know about you, but I don't have 5 hours a week to spare for running Gnomeregan (and that's, again very generously, assuming you only have one Raid per week).
@gaarakabuto15 жыл бұрын
@@CaptainSweatpants90 All these aren't false but are overexageration,since you don't need MCP on every single fight but to major boss fights(like ragnaros and Executus) and you can't equip meanwhile on combat so you can use 1 every boss fights(3 charges) so usually you will need 3 MCPs in total or at extreme one for each boss. Usually for me it takes half an hour for 3 MCPs and if your guild has alts running gnome they can let you one MCP for free. It is time demanded but not even an hour,it's just like regular pre raid farming.

One of the perks of being a skilled feral player back in vanilla was being able to surprise people in raids with topping out on the damag meters, simply due to people being so God-awful at the game at that time. As you pointed out in the vid, it went downhill from Naxx patch - There were simply not good enough items from there on out to be able to justify the heavy time investment it took to keep gearing the druid. Also, at some point along the way people caught up in the damage meters since slacking during raids didn't work anymore. Still though, I remember being able to impress people with my feral's capabilities was such a satisifying experience back then, since ferals (along with boomkins) were frowned upon. Heck, 90% of the population didn't even know the druid was capable of tanking, which, with proper gearing, could even carry your raid through many raid encounters. Good times they were...

honestly even in classic druid is still really viable, maybe not if you want to be top dps. but like, you can have a halfdecent hybrid build that allows you to decent DPS (enough to be allowed into a raid xP), but also be offtank when needed, you can have some backup int gear to help healing when needed, you still have the remove curse/poison and combat rez,... in short, bringing a halfdecent player with a hybrid talent setup, basically means you have someone who can fill any role in a pinch. tanks going down when boss only has 10%hp? tell the cat to go bear and hope he survives long enough to down the boss. got wiped cause healers couldn't keep up? get the cat to int gear up and help healing on the next try. sure you have the 'hybrid tax' which basically means you'll never be the best in 1 certain thing, but most other classes can't just switch on the fly and fill in any role you need in the raid xP (at least not without a talent respec)

Classic Feral even working is a a hack-job on the best of days, and about the same level as Retribution Paladins on every night that isn't raid night. When your prospects for even qualifying as 'passable' is to obsessively farm Gnomeregan, you're probably already circling somewhere between the 3rd and 4th layers of hell and should probably level a warlock instead. On a good day, you may get a treat from a raid leader as a bear tank, but it's probably because you're friends and they want to find some way of making you feel useful without making you pay for respecs to join as a resto druid so you can help keep the 10 dps warriors alive.

Too bad i had to tank most of the content but i got to dps on few fights where we didnt need more warlocks. Regards Laveerre from Hellground.

ok i just watched you first one (balance druid) aswell and your infromation is conflicting, in the balance druid clip you said the last primal instrinct talent was moonkin form and you went on about how unlogical that is, now the same talent is primal instinct. So when were you lying in the first vid or this one?

It was a mistake on my part, I pointed it out in the first comment on that video that I pinned for everyone to see. Why do you automatically assume I'm lying though? Why couldnt it have been a mistake?

Regarding Wolfshead Helm, I'm not sure it's worth crafting LW to 245 or so to get this recipe...the time/money you waste on the craft is arguably not worth it.

dps feral in vanilla raids has no negative impact on the raid, so if you find one its worth taking. only problem is feral is so hard to master.

Not true for burning Crusade druid you would rip then FB then rip again is your optimal rotation the reason is because you have the ability to build extra Campbell points and rip last so long that you could run it without it going down and you're not going to reapply a rip on top of a rip you wanted to rip to expire and also you could tap meters is a feral Druid 4600 and Son Well thank you and about 3,200 in Black Temple Farm... and with the removal of glancing, wolfshed was not the best no matter what people say

Maintain Savage Roar at all times. Maintain Mangle at all times. Maintain Rake. Maintain a 5 Combo Point Rip. Shred is your Combo Point builder. Use Tigers' Fury on cooldown whenever you're low enough to not cap on energy from it. Use Ferocious Bite if Savage Roar and Rip aren't going to fall off before you can refresh them. Berserk on cooldown, use it with nearly full energy. That's pretty much it. It's almost identical to more modern feral, you just have Mangle to maintain and you don't deal with Bloodtalons or Moonfire. They've kept ferals pretty similar to how they were in Wrath.

Man bear levelling was a bit slow but it was no poor mans warrior. It was far more efficient for bear levelling and you should use it until level 30 at least before switching to cat.

In vanilla feral cats were not as good as pure dps classes. They were also quite underrated in TBC, as they didn't scale well into T5 and T6 but in T4 they might were the best dps out there. Feral Cat early wotlk were the best together with mages. I did 4700 dps on patchwork in the 1st patch of WOTLK and at that time the world record was around 4900 by a mage, It was not the easiest spec according to some people, but it was so fulfilling if you got it right.

The lack of addons and 4:3 aspect ratio on the gameplay footage is a nice way of emulating the 2005 experience, but that smooth 60fps isn't fooling anyone :P 10-15 would've been more accurate :D

Having progressed tbc content as kitty and talk around going about classic tbc. I wanted drop that your feral dps will be mad in t5 and non swp t6. Top5 no joke. Sunwell weapon scaling hits hard but don't let it keep you down. I recall dozen of times doing 2.5k+ dps and battling it out with the warriors and rogues. Go farm your fel pots and dark runes kittycats :)

"In vanilla no one thought of power shifting" -- except yes. This was definitely a thing in Vanilla content. I remember discussing this with my other druid in our premade pvp ranking group. And since I never played private servers, I can guarantee me not confusing them. I also remember discussing it on the official forums. (fwiw, I stopped at rank 13)

Could you please tell me if instant powershifting is a thing in 1.12? I was a dedicated feral back in Vanilla and as soon as I hit 60, TBC launched. Sooo I clearly remember me having macros for instant shifting but question myself if that happened in TBC and my memory is dull. If you have the time to read, this is what I mean: All my shifts were macros (i recall something like /cast !Cat form, that exclamation mark was important to not get me out in caster form if I accidentally pressed it twice) I had: Bear in Shift+W Cat in Shift+D Travel in Shift+A Caster in Shift+S Lets say i was in Bear form, 0 rage. A single shift+w would consume mana and give me 10 rage, only thing if I remember right was a gcd there so i couldn't spam it. A single shift+D would instantly get me to cat, breaking all snares if any without "demorphing" and being hit in that gcd. With all the energy of furor and helm instantly ofc. If I wanted to e.g. rejuvenate or later in tbc hurricane, I HAD TO press my shift+S first, pressing the form i was already into wouldnt do it. I recently started playing private again, with a huge love of the druid and not willing to reroll when official launches. My muscle memory is still there, to my surprise, doing all those druid things like second nature, but I cannot for the life of me do the powershifting thing today. Sooo... Do I just miss the correct macro or instant powershifting is in my wrong memories and not doable up until TBC? Sorry for the extremely large message, I hope you get the time to read it and give me an answer

Raid footage of him on vaelstraz, the one boss that ferals excel at because of unlimited energy lol.. also dps on that fight is completely reliant on your tanks threat. Feral isn't garbage, but its definitely not a choice for most players. You need to put in a lot of effort to make it viable, and additionally have to rely on luck to really shine. And the main issue with feral dps is that nobody will be willing to give BiS items to ferals over rogues or warriors.

Watch his vids. Lol. He has top examples from about God damn 20 bosses where he tops charts (top 3). He chose two, one good and one bad example for the video, and that's not even the best feral fight for dsp

still thinking to reroll from paladin to druid when wow classic will release. Remember at the end of the Vanila, when I waslvl druid, I was telling to myself. That if I started from druid not paladin I will be enjoy the game even more. That class not the top tier damage. But why ppl always thinking about damage not the utility that 1 person can bring i instead 1000 damage will give 700, but can do so many thinks in a raid. Even Battlress that one extra life for everyone. Same DPS so we can have increase from 0 to any number... Same when I was playing as a paladin, my byild was totaly not most wanted, but my guild mates was so amazied about buffs that pala can bring. Yes I was runningin hybrid holy\prot spec. So my raid has a BoP BoK BoSanctuarry BoS etc. + strong dev aura. And I was happy to play that spec. That was easy for farming. I wasnot afraid of rogues\warriors\hunters. Even warlocks. And ofc others palas))) Plus, because I play only on Alliance side NE Druid the only choise. We will see ))A difficult choice need to do!
