What i love about private servers is that you can be a casual and get enought time to enjoy every piece of content the expansion have, you can start leveling, gearing up for pve, for pvp, go raiding wherever you want without that feeling in months comes another expansion and you need to rush the game a do a speedrun to enjoy the content you paid for

Not that I paid a subscription on retail because since wow tokens, I always paid with those but my gameplay basically was reduced to farming gold to pay for tokens to keep farming gold. Someone else was paying it for you, at an inflated price. That is all WoW tokens are, someone else paying your sub for you at an increased price. You pay them back with gold, but Blizzard made more money off you indirectly than they would have if you just payed a sub.

Warmane actually is the best wrath private with their big population and are verry serious about saving your accounts/characters in long term. But dont expect to have a hardcore scripted dungeons, raids are okay but the dungeons just work fine and thats enough for me, world quests and etc all works too. So for those who loves to play wrath like me for now this is the best, and for the future u may like to look at revelation wow which is on closed beta right now but looks damn cool project with the custom new things that they added and keep doing it.

The line between private and official servers has slowly faded away. - Botters: it's actually worse on official servers - Customer support: private servers still have real GMs, on the official servers they barely have any left, only just the useless auto report buttons - Bugs/performance: official servers still have the edge, but the gap is getting smaller and smaller - P2W: yes, some servers are P2W, but there are still plenty of them, which offer even less "QoL" shop benefits than the retail. Also Blizzard store items becoming more shameless month by month (see the TBC mount and level boost). And one of the biggest reason was against private servers, is they can be shut down anytime and loose your whole progress. But now there are Vanilla servers that have been up for years without a problem, while Blizzard because of greed and incompetence basically killed the Classic servers after 2 years. They forced you to pay for realm transfer because they couldn't handle population and balance issues, then they forced you to pay extra to have your character still present on Classic Era, and when it made the population drop, they couldn't even bother with server merges.

I play on Warmane wotlk (lordaeron). Blizzlike server, such a great community. You get that same ol' feelling of needed social interaction, everybody helping eachother, crowded squares, people joking around on the chat window. As long as there are private servers, i'll never get back to retail wow.

Some private servers have a few different servers with different xp rates. For instance, Warmane, the most popular Wrath server, has a separate server that is x1 and no buying of items.

I played WoW since before TBC launched, I’ve played pservers since before Nost was a thing, and I played Classic when it came out; now playing on Darrowshire, and won’t go back to classic unless I have no choice. Blizz really bungled Classic and obviously don’t care about their community. The lead developer of Darrowshire replies to messages about botting quickly and eliminates them. Darrow is far superior to Classic, real talk.

I always loved to play on private servers throughout the years, but Blizzard have killed my love for WoW with their Classic and TBC Version and on how they handled it. I completely quit WoW because of that and I'm actually fine with that. Private Servers are still a huge step up to anything that Blizzard offers. Just look at Ascension, this is just insane what they made out of WoW.

I been playing other games private servers for years(about 19 years or so) and I know exactly why you do. I find it a lot more fun to see what others can come up with and I find they fight bots and RWT a lot better then any company of a MMO I have played has ever done. I have played private servers for Helbreath DragonRaja MapleStory Ragnarok Online Ultima Online And in most of them they are super fun and bring something new or different. One even bought the game they where hosting because the owners of the game gave up on it and sold the rights away and the new host is making the game really good and keeping it alive.

It was quite the throwback for me when you mentioned Feenix Warsong. I played there on and off for years and have a lot of good memories raiding and PvPing on that server. Obviously it wasn't as refined as the modern classic pservers, but it was the best there was for classic content in its time.

I have been playing on PS such as Feenix Archangel and Molten/Warmane/Arena-Tournament (both TBC and WotLK) for over 10 years now. I prefer PS over the official ones because the teams working on these projects have been refining the game and the community is still a thing on these servers. The official servers are filled with min/max'ers that don't care about the community at all. I had several characters on Warmane Outland (TBC server) and i haven't had this much fun since retail TBC. There were in-game events and features that held a quality i only thought Blizz could manage. There was an event in Zangarmarsh with world bosses and the entire server participated, several raids fought for the spawns so it was a full blown war "Wintergrasp-style".

If you value money more than entertainment and relaxation in that reserved time period of the day pick a private server. if you however value entertainment and relaxation choose retail. Full PVE bis hunter for example absolutely shreds in 2's with a shaman partner also you can't twink on Blackrock, and I love my 49 kangfury shaman

Defo agree on the "inovation" part. I'm not currently into private servers right now, but 2 projects kinda got my interest. The first being prophecy RP, which promises to experience the WAR III universe using wow technologies. That's a no brainer for me since Blizzard let us down with BFA's warfront, a feature promised as "living a WAR III experience". The second is Conquest of Azeroth, because I quite like that idea of offering completely exclusives classes that even Blizzard is failing to deliver, like the long waited tinker class.

I played classic pservers on and off for years before the launch of Blizz classic(Feenix, Elysium) and had quite a lot of fun. I did not see the min/max meta on these servers that made for a negative endgame experience for so many people. From my experience, the endgame culture was much more laid back and casual on pservers in comparison, much closer to the true vanilla experience that I remember from back in the day.

Just rolled my own instance of AzerothCore. Set the XP rate to x0.5 so i can complete as many quests as possible. Works great except for the lower levels where you may get stuck with no quests. (Which solved by taking the Zeppelin to a different city.)

My first Tauri account was created in 2012. My first character is still alive. This is crazy. But because of the few players, I don’t play on it. Stormforge's trouble is that Tauri is developing a team. Why would he kill his own server? I don't know how far Stormfoge will go. Stormforge seems to be a big draw. There is no pvp leader on the website. Tauri is not developing his own server. In 2022, where would it be worth playing?

Personally I wouldn't mind seeing a true custom server. custom maps, races etc.. and changes to old mechanics and maybe a server with that feels more like a RPG (like you're playing Skyrim) maybe something with more elements of realism such as player ships, player housing and guild bases, hunger, a Minecraft style crafting system, etc.. Things you'd typically see in a game like Valheim.. Imagine going to Northrend and freezing to death and having to survive the cold and you need to build campfires etc.. to keep warm. Get rid of character levels and use a skill based system similar to that of Ultima Online for classes, guild warring/diplomacy. WoW is like a "been there done that" sort of thing for me..

The biggest question for me is if private servers have bots/mage boosting. I probably wouldn't play on a 14X exp server because the leveling experience is the fun part for me. (Hard to imagine mage boosting on a 14X exp server..)

Depends on where you go. Most private servers ban botters *very* quickly, and depending on the rules dungeon boosting may or may not be allowed. The difference between Blizzard and private servers is that private servers actually enforce their rules

I don't know. As a player who played on private servers for 7 + years, I am not enjoying playing same expansions again and again. I enjoy retail way more, there is alot of content way more people playing, I find it more enjoyable plus you get new content every 6 months and so. Money are no problem since they made gold easy farmable. And you can experience your class at full since everything is working properly.

In my case the reasons are simple: it's free and Blizzard doesn't get money. Not that I can afford a monthly WoW subscribtion anyway, I've always played only private servers, because the game is just too damn expensive, not because I always hated Blizzard. Especially since I don't actually play the game for the entire month straight, there are gonna be days or even weeks when I don't play at all but I still have to pay the price for an entire month if I just wanna play a little.

Outside the fact that its free, I gotta say it is nice but there are so many bugs and I just love blizzard. I have put way to much into my account to quit and switch to a free server. But I gotta admire anyone who plays almost the same game for free while im a dummy paying a monthly fee

Private server emulators do in fact exist, and that's actually how I choose to play WoW now, when I play WoW.

@@grego10r It makes sense for the “Darrowshire” private WoW server to be mostly dead by now because it was meant to be a temporary fresh Classic WoW server. Of course some people can still be playing it, but it isn't the long-term type of WoW. Furthermore, they had a pretty nasty community as a whole, despite the decent and nice people that could still be playing. (This is one of the criticism of it that can be found easily)

It's not illegal anywhere, even if the private server you played on gets shut down no charges will be pressed against you. And only way that would happen is if blizzard pressured your ISP, but that would cost a lot of money for both blizzard and the ISP and the worst thing that would happen is you would get a letter sent to your home as a warning. That's all, they kinda have their hands tied. Goes for anything really, watching pirated movies on a pirate website, tormenting, nothing can happen to you, only to the people who provide that service

Feenix Warsong back in the day was 12x boosted for leveling with 1x drops. I do not know of any classic pservers out at the moment other than 1x leveling though.

Can you suggest a nice wotlf x3 max x5 rate that does not have donation or hackers or something like that... and ofc have ppl online... I want to play with my kid and wife from time to time casually so nothing crazy .... Ty in advance ;)
