No man is infallible. Knowledge first starts with the self and one's Lord. It is a very personal journey, which often requires guides. It is a long and arduous process that starts with humility and ends at humility. A sincere guide will only care about his student's relationship with God. If he/she more concerned with self aggrandizement, then the sincerity will be lost. Both will make mistakes, but for people who are true, they will accept, learn and improve. its ongoing and never ends, until it ends!

zakir hussain I think this is in turkey. These are ottoman design mosque they are really beautiful special and they have like a very peaceful and calm atmosphere. Theres a lot of mosques of this kind in my country too

Abu Darda reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Verily, the angels lower their wings for the seeker of knowledge. The inhabitants of the heavens and earth, even the fish in the depths of the water, seek forgiveness for the scholar. The virtue of the scholar over the worshiper is like the superiority of the moon over the stars. The scholars are the inheritors of the Prophets. They do not leave behind gold or silver coins, but rather they leave behind knowledge. Whoever has taken hold of it has been given an abundant share. Source: Sunan Abī Dāwūd 3641 Grade: Sahih

If by knowledge you mean, knowledge of Allah in respect to Tawheed and the oneness of Allah than yes...but not all Knowledge is beneficial and elevates you when Allah takes about those human who become worst than Animal he is refering to the polytheists who have no knowledge Allah and his Oneness.

Who governs the scohlars? Are they fallable? Was Mohammed pbuh fallable? The reason I ask this is that I see many imams and scholars behaving as politicians in that they are maintaining power bases for themselves using all the same tricks as politicians such a giving populist lectures and playing on people's fears of other groups, creating sub movements and in some cases amassing wealth.

Imran Nazir all the prophets are infallible (they do not sin or disobey God) this is our belief. Everyone else is fallible.

Dear brother, you could find the answer in the islamqa website in which they give Islamic fatwas/rulings on many different matters. The title of this particular question is ‘ Do prophets sin? Do they need forgiveness?’ I hope that answers your question.

@ZorinR that is not true, even prophets have made mistakes. Also our prophet muhammad pbuh. But the mistakes prophets made are often because Allah wants to teach humanity a lesson through a prophet. For example how to behave in the best way after you have made a certain mistake.

@@mr.mikaeel6264 Don't speak without knowledge. There is a consensus among the scholars that the Prophets (peace be upon them all ) were unable to and did not commit any major sin. There was a difference of opinion between them however, whether the prophets were able to commit minor mistakes/sins (with the exception of our beloved Prophet Mohammed Peace be upon him). All of them are under unanimous agreement, that the prophet Mohammed (Peace be upon him) did not commit and was unable to commit any sin or religious mistake whether small or major. The Prophet Mohammed (Peace be upon him) was infallible and did not commit any sin, and was unable to commit them just like the angels. (Infinite peace and infinite blessings of Allah be upon our beloved Prophet Mohammed, and his noble beloved family, noble beloved wives and noble beloved companions)

U are right about this imam and scholars behaving like this nowadays... especially in subcontinent...controlling masses of ignorant laymen Muslims through fear and ignorance
