Al-Aqidah Al-Tahawiyyah - Lesson 2, Session 1/3 - Meaning of Fitrah and Semantics of Iman

*Tangential Notes:* Fitrah is the inborn nature (natural disposition, instincts, inherent capability) of a being/creature without being taught through nurture. For humans one of its facets is the capability to recognize/discern God, seek and believe in Him or in other words a natural compass/curiosity that's always within us that points toward the creator (seek answers to questions of our existence and place in the universe). For example, the fitrah of the honey bee is that it can instinctually distinguish plants and flowers for drawing nectar (this example is in Ma'ariful Quran Surah Rum, verse 30). It is mentioned in the Quran (Surah Rum, verse 30): "So, set your face to the Faith uprightly, this (faith) being the nature designed by Allah on which He has created the mankind. There is no change in Allah’s creation. That is the straight faith, but most of the people do not know." It is his parents who make him a Jew or a Christian or a Polytheist. A person said: Allah's Messenger, what is your opinion if they were to die before that (before reaching the age of adolescence when they can distinguish between right and wrong) ? He said: It is Allah alone Who knows what they would be doing." In Soorah Al-A'raaf, Verses 172-173; Allah explained that when He created Adam, He caused all of Adam's descendants to come into existence and took a pledge from them saying, Am I not your Lord? To which they all replied, " Yes, we testify to It:'

I have a question. If someone is in a situation of threat to life, then it is allowed for him to not declare the iman he has inside his heart. But is it BETTER for him to declare iman and die by the tortures instantly? Or is it BETTER to remain silent and have iman inside and save his life?? What is more valuable or the better action in such a situation??
