It's the patient you're not supposed to touch with unwashed hands but at the same time you are to make sure for safety of the patient before you walk away to gather supplies. That's prometrics guidelines.

Always wash hands . before you . touch anything..than put on gloves and gather you're. Supplies.basen towel ,than do.nails.wash ✋ for 60secon By singing the a,b,c song keep the infection contal.down.

Gloves are optional for hand care. You should definitely use gloves if the skin is open.
