I’m a huge fan a framing. As a short guy for my weight (5’6” at 150-160), I use a lot framing techniques that I learned from watching Dwight Qawi and Marvin Hagler. Great video as always!

How does framing work for short fighters and are there any other techniques for short fighters?
@MaverickCulp
@MaverickCulp Жыл бұрын
@@markmorales1609 You gotta work your way in close, almost head to chest. Frame off of your opponent’s biceps, and clench the back of the neck to pivot them around. My go to frame and pivot move is right hand on bicep, left hand on the back of the neck. Push my right hand out, pull my left hand in, and pivot out to my left before throwing a combination.

Lomachenko provides an excellent example of all of these techniques in boxing, coupled with his incredible footwork he uses the frames you described to pivot around his opponent and deliver blows from different angles seamlessly. Great vid, you do great work.

Framing is very important technique to defend against takedowns. Combined with elbows and counter punches it gives you control to fight someone that wants to get in close and lock your body for a throw or takedown

Hey, Shane! Can you make a video with Bubba Jenkins on some wrestling throws? Or even make more of an MMA video where you two could show some combinations with striking and grappling. Like for instance, you do a 1-2 and slip to the side of your power hand, pressure is on your rear leg and you explode and go for a takedown, dodging a possible strike. Or maybe like in your clinch video in Thailand, you try your best for dominant control on the triceps of your opponent but you fail to do so and your arms are to the side. But as your opponent grabs hold of you, you can quickly underhook, as the outside position of your arms is great for this, and hip throw your opponent right on the mat. I know you may not be able to see this, but I'm just asking for this idea because there are beautiful ways of combining striking and grappling. And hearing it from you would be very cool!

Shane I know you once said that you didn't think wing Chun was great for self defense but I strongly recommend experimenting with it for a couple months what your showing in this video is some very basic wing Chun concepts.... By the way 3:23 would be a great spot for an oblique kick to his lead leg

Question do you see wing chun used by professional fighters? No. You don’t. Why? Because it doesn’t work. Have a nice day 🤨👎
@johnnychannarong5484
@johnnychannarong5484 6 жыл бұрын
Krystine Rios wing chun puts emphasis on such ideas but the way they do it is totally wrong.. you don’t ever see wing chun guys teaching stuff like this. They do it more of like just walk in pull down one hand and start a barrage of strikes ... what they don’t tell you is to even get a guy to respect your power until they cover up you need to actually fight with them .. no one shells up like that .. to summarize wc teaches you what to do in a certain situation but it doesn’t teach you how to get into that situation .. most fights start from a distance especially agreed fights .. so you need to learn how to get close..
@krystinerios5587
@krystinerios5587 6 жыл бұрын
Truth vendor If you ever trained in wing Chun you would see wing Chun techniques used in virtually every boxing match... When boxers get on the inside and fighting up close they use their arms to create openings, defend, and counter. That is what wing Chun is.... Wing Chun teaches you how to deal with energy while still advancing, attacking, and defending..... Many high level fighters use lots of wing Chun techniques for example things shown in this video.... Wing Chun is designed for self defense where you may not have room to move around, unstable floors, being caught off guard, cannot see due to fighting in the dark, and many other things you don't have to worry about in a street fight. Will it transfer over to the ring or cage yes but it's similar to the way boxing in UFC transfers to boxing in a ring their are many differences.
@krystinerios5587
@krystinerios5587 6 жыл бұрын
Johnny Channarong I've trained with four separate instructors and I was never taught to come straight in and pull a hand down then throw a barage of punches..... I was always taught very similar to what Shane just showed the only difference is I believe I was shown a little more in depth of what your trying to achieve.... wing Chun does teach how to close such as the arrow step, circular steps, or pendellum step but these are designed for fighting on unstable floors so if you don't have to worry about that then it's better to use a boxing or must that approach.... Your absolutely right that you need to make them respect your power but with Chun the punches aren't intended to be the lethal strikes because without gloves you can easily break your hands the punches are more of a violent distraction while you close distance to land elbows, knees, stikes to vital areas, or takedowns.... Wing Chun by itself would be innefective in the UFC just like boxing, Muay Thai, or BJJ by itself would be innefective. This is why I wasn't recommending training solely in wing Chun for a competition I was only recommending experimenting with it for a while because when you are up close it does help a lot I know because I've trained other martial arts for years and when I tried wing Chun it was a great supplement to my other disciplines and really improved my sparring especially when fighting guys who don't know anything about wing Chun....
@johnnychannarong5484
@johnnychannarong5484 6 жыл бұрын
krystine all i know is wing chun is extremely limited still not because of their lack of ground game. but because of the level of skill that a typical wing chun person would encounter on a daily basis for sparring.. for other arts such as muay thai/boxing, there are various skill levels.. most gyms around the world have beginners to amateur level and some pros within the gym. so beginners get to spar with such guys and slowly improve.. while at a wing chun gym, the skill level is mainly beginner.. hence, i always feel the arts i mentioned ( boxing/ MT ) will always be more effective than wing chun.. wing chun has the right principals but the wrong training methods also and the wrong fight approach.. on theory, its all good but notice how when you actually see most of them spar, its really bad.. no offence.. i tried to be open minded about it but wing chun was invented so many years ago.. its been more than 50 years yet the amount of wing chun guys in pro fight organizations are 0.. or close to none..

Thank you so much this was a really nice break down! Does anyone have any tips on countering these? Any tips are good though specifically I am looking for tips where someone has kinda using their jab arm to kinda keep my jab arm at bay making it harder for me to get towards them and strike. Not really sure how to describe it but their jab hand is constantly pushing my jab hand back. Im not really super strong, so i was thinking of pivoting to a new angle - if you have any good tips on foot work or good foot work drills that would also be super amazing and helpful.

So far I have had 5 fights,three of which I have won and I have a huge passion for combat sports but have only ever participated in one,that one being boxing. I constantly watch mma wether that be on tv or on KZbin and have always wanted to try either kickboxing,Brazilian jiu jitsu,Muay Thai or wrestling. Which one would you suggest to try first? I am also concerned that my boxing coaches will feel like I've betrayed them or acted disloyal by trying different martial arts,what should I do???ps think what your doing with the channel is great and because of you in the future I have ambitions of becoming a coach and opening a boxing gym

Hey Shane, My names Scott, I’m 15 and I live in Ontario near Toronto. I’ve been a fan of MMA for about 3 years but have never been allowed to take any classes. I have limited knowledge and skill in BJJ and wrestling as most of my friends are wrestlers and spar for fun. I’m turning 15 this July and my parents are finally letting me take a class of any martial art. Is it too late for me to start training and hopefully compete once I am older? Or should I just give up. Also what martial art would you say I should begin with, before transitioning to full MMA. I really hope you respond as I really need your advice, as someone I look up too, and hope you can help me.

Atomic Penny you’re completely wasting your time by thinking watching fight tips is going to make you learn how to fight. These videos are for actual trained martial artists to implement new techniques and strategy’s into their training these people already know the martial arts Shane is showing them but not always the specific technique you aren’t a martial artist so how do you expect to apply what you do not know there’s only one thing to do kid and that’s the old fashion way get off your ass find a respectable mma gym and train everyday at least 5 days a week 2 years of that and you’ll be a decent fighter and you sure as hell won’t be concerned about fighting untrained little bitch boys that want people to think their tough like you do 12 is a good age to start training and everyday you spend not training the worse you’ll be if you start later best to start right now take my advice seize the day kid

Counter Kidnapping long guard can be risky against a taller opponent because if you're touching them you're in the pocket to get hit by them, but it can be effective if you're good with it
@krystinerios5587
@krystinerios5587 6 жыл бұрын
If done correctly its hard to counter anything but with that in mind Posting out- if they do it off centerline (your shoulder) you can spin with the motion and deliver an attack simultaneously. If they post directly on your centerline change range more than they probably would've expected and pray it works to do a pull counter. Measuring - treating the hand similar to a punch you can slip, parry, or do an arm drag. You can also measure back and force their hand to the outside so you control the center but that kind of requires you to know other follow up techniques. Framing- Push their elbow into their centerline and step to an angle this will leave them off balance and unable to counter as long as their elbow is pinned to their centerline. Meanwhile you will still be able to attack with full power. Trapping - if their pulling down dip your head with the motion or slide the other hand to protect. If they pulling your hand to the side you must already have been loose and relaxed so you can spin your whole forearm raising your elbow for a block. As with anything there is no sure way to defend and every technique can be prevented from working or countered.

Wing chun practices shitty worthless defenses to its own shitty worthless attacks its useless in a real fight that’s why professional fighters don’t waste their time with learning it you chumps
@johnnychannarong5484
@johnnychannarong5484 6 жыл бұрын
Karl Beltran Wing chun has an emphasis on trapping but they execution and method is all wrong.. they do worthless drills to create sensitivity and they even focus on combination traps which never works .. trapping if you notice works if it’s done in a split second ... therefore why would you learn wing chun when other arts have shown how to do trapping effectively .. ifs nothing complicated ...
@krystinerios5587
@krystinerios5587 6 жыл бұрын
Truth vendor I've used wing Chun numerous times with several people from several styles under different sets of rules it has always worked for me.... And those shitty drills do help if you understand the purpose behind them.... Have you ever seen a BJJ guy lllay on his back and shrimp right then shrimp left it looks pretty shitty and stupid but if you understand the purpose it really helps..... Building sensitivity helps to because it allows you to ensure the techniques is correct after learning it slowly you can apply more speed and resistance it's similar to learning a roundhouse or teep and your coach telling you do it slowly don't focus on power focus on technique once you learn then you can put power into your kick you are obviously talking about an art you never trained and making comments about something you don't know anything about is foolish
@krystinerios5587
@krystinerios5587 6 жыл бұрын
For anyone thinking Wing Chun is worthless you must also think every single thing shown in this video was worthles. Shane's first tip about posting out is the same thing as the one inch or 6 inch punch power that Bruce Lee used to demonstrate for the average person that explosive short power simply snaps the person back notice Shane said not to use a pushing motion he said use everything at once and do not bend back that is what you are taught in Wing Chun is to throw your punch from a short distance and transfer the energy into them if done correctly they will go back and not you. The second tip that Shane said was measuring. In Wing Chun after throwing a punch you are taught to sometimes leave your hand out so that you can feel your opponent and find or create an opening depending on their reaction. Notice Shane said leaving your hand out forces them to come around your your hand this is straight line Theory which is why Wing Chun has their awkward stance. It is not typically meant to be a stance that you are holding for long periods of time but rather keeping your hand out during periods of time forcing them to come around your strikes so that you can find openings and do other attacks. Shane's third tip framing this is a bon said notice Shane shows it with the example of someone slipping your jab this is because you use a bon sao when someone enters past your hand but not past your elbow this can be done a number of ways including someone slipping a jab like Shane showed. After using a bon sao you can follow up with a number of strikes just as Shane demonstrated. The fourth tip Shane gave was trapping he used a lop sao it can be used for a lot of reasons including passing a person's guard similar to what Shane just showed. Notice Shane said to keep your hands close together like handcuffs this is economy of motion a Wing Chun Theory this is what Wing Chun teaches. Keeping your hands close together is done by having little rotation in your shoulders watch when Shane is doing the touch touch touch touch part, his shoulders do not rotate much until he is throwing the power strike. I know Shane was not intending to do a wing Chun video it's simply that many styles have similar techniques but literally every single thing he was showing in this video is wing chun

I want to hear any opinions about this. I really want to join mma but I need to get some experience in some disciplines. my gym is divided by 2, one side is grappling and the other striking so they have 2 classes at the same time. so I'm at my gym and I practice boxing, muay thai and bjj. at my gym they have boxing at 6-7 only some days and most of the time is muay thai. I used to do jiu jitsu all day long but then my boxing couch came back from a competition. Then I came back to boxing. My bjj couch didn't liked that. so I do boxing and after that when I tried to do jiu jitsu he got angry because he said that I can't just come like that without permission etc, but In the past there was no problem on doing it. So he didn't let me roll with anybody. After that he gave 2 options. only doing jiu jitsu or doing boxing and muay thai but if I did striking, he wouldn't let me enter to jiu jitsu. this happened yesterday and I know that my bjj couch have preferences in other people. I really love boxing and I want to progress in bjj. this happened to a friend that did the same thing. both of us we are young I dont know what to do I hope some can answer me , giving me their opinions

DANI -Y-T don't do everything in one day. I used to practice muay thai and taekwondo at the same time. Ended up blocking a low kick with my arm. Almost broke it. Do one at a time. I suggest muay thai first because it's the most well rounded. Then jiu jitsu, then everything else

You said you are young if you are in middle or high school do your striking at the gym & sign up for wrestling to get your grappling at school. Also if you already know submissions wrestling will improve you rolling quite a bit. Hope you get it figured out. KEEP AT IT

Is it really an eyepoke if you just perfectly place your hand so that your finger meets their eyeball as they take their step forward to throw a punch? Theyre the ones walking into your fingers, you just know where theyre gonna end up. Kinda like if someone is charging at you and you raise your knee up to their crotch level last second and they just run into it. Did you really knee their balls or did they do it to themselves? Jones is a dick but hes pretty smart when it comes to gaming the system

Those who study Jkd probes the knee to keep their opponent back. Distance and range is always important!!! And it is use for set-ups. Most of the time! We invite our opponent in so we can destroy the knee( groin strikes) and follow up with combination. Main thing is, we wouldn't let our opponent gather range information, when they try to measure or frame, they are setting themselves up for a timed attack or interception.
