As a bass builder who's been watching this channel for years, I'm stoked to see a dedicated bass build! I built a neck out of a super wormy piece of oak once and I used an air compressor to blow the sanding dust out of all the holes prior to applying the finish. Love the build and I'd love to see a neck-thru bass in the future!!

Love this Bass. I am glad you send the center piece with the rear cavity template. It works great if you use a thin cover and need reinforcement under that thin cover. I used it on one of my latest builds and I'm so glad I had that center piece! Peace and Love.

It's looking amazing already!!! Especially glad you went with the single-cut shape, since that will also give you options when this bass turns out to have some neckdive - you can position the strapbuttons accordingly 😎🙏

Hey, Ben! Top tip for cleaning out the burr grinding wheels and burr bits. Don’t use a brush to get the wood bits out. Burn it! That’s right, take your butane/propane torch and have some fun! It won’t hurt the bit/wheel and it’s easier than using a brush.

At first I saw that body shape and thought, darn, he ruined that beautiful wood, then you cut out the shape and I went pretty cool and once your carved it…man that shape rocks beautiful work. PS I use that grinder on my last neck and I’m never going back to the all hand work Beautiful builds thank you 🙏

Ben, if you’re fishing about for a challenging build you might consider a resonator-style (aka Dobro) guitar. Don’t think I’ve ever heard you mention one. Of course, if you wanted to take that to an extreme try a Brahms guitar. Now that would be crazy.

Bonjour Benito. Love the channel and vids as always. More so loving the bass builds 🙌🙌 Should you ever read this, I've always wanted to see a carve similar to the Warwicks or Spectors where they have a belly curve on the back and a curve on the front, I'd love to see that done. Challenge laid down!

Hi Ben, I heard you method of carving the C shape in the neck by bisecting the faces of the neck multiples times now and I think it’s a good approximation towards a pleasing shape. If you want to make a neck that has more of a half circle / half elliptic shape geometrically you should rather go 7/10 (or exactly: 1 over root of 2) from the corners in / towards the fretboard and with the next face 6/10 and then continue with halfs. It would make the neck more „Fendery“ and less „Gibsony“ IMHO. I hope this comment reaches you and maybe you can experiment with this new approach. Try to draw a circle and a square around it and use the method - you will know what I mean. Greetings from Austria

Love the channel and the fact you are now doing a bass. Because of you I now have 4 custom bas guitars and am now working on 5th. :) Swift question ... my 5th build is one that someone else started and didn't want to finish, so I've taken it over. it is a through body neck bass, which has the neck already carved to shape... but the fret board is still a slab of rose wood. Is it best to shape the fret board first (cut to size and radius) or is it better to glue to the neck and carve in situ? ... keep up the good work Ben

Ben, what type of abrasive disc are you using to do those body bevels? I recently used an angle grinder to do the forearm and belly carves on a build, with a flap wheel (probably about 120 grit), and holy crap, that thing moves wood scary fast... almost went too deep in a fraction of a second a few times! That looks a bit more controllable, would love to try!
