Excellent lesson. I have been playing 30 years with fair to poor technique. My mentor has tried to drive home everything you have said . Now as I have progressed through the years ,I got it ! Also, what better way to relearn or should I say redevelop my skills than to take on a student . What a great student I have. My Tai chi teacher ! On The very first time we started his engraved neuro motor skills were so relaxed . Wow I was jealous . Lol . thanks again . Richie

I have been drumming since June of 1984 and I can attest to this exercise. It helped me over the years. I have done this is n a few months but encourages me to start doing this again.

@@WORLDDRUMCLUB I totally agree. That's when it becomes more important than ever. I'm glad you posted this video. It's definitely refreshing to see other passionate drummers and that everyone learns from others that have learned from djembefola's master and grandmasters. I never had a master drummer to take me under his wing and soak up lessons from them. My spiritual father taught me what he knew and learned which was a nice little bit and before he passed away in 2008 i promised him that I'd continue learning and carry on what he taught me and hopefully share this with the beginners here in San Diego California. I'm definitely blessed to have been encouraged to become a Djembe drummer and looking back over the 37 years I am thankful for those that have shared even a year drop of knowledge they learned which kept me wanting more. I'll be 50 in two years and drumming for almost have a century I am surely blessed. Thank you brother for your video. They keep me inspired and not to forget those who taught me over the years that has now passed on to heaven and some still alive with us but haven't seen in years. Keep up the wonderful work my brother.

I’ve never seen this exercise in 40 years of drumming. Gonna have to try it! Seems like a good way to warm up the head of the drums as well as the hands/wrists. Thanks!

What about thinking about odd groupings of tuplets such as quintuplets at a slow tempi 40 - 60 BPM in various different meters? I believe you would develop a better sense of time and potentially gain speed. What do you think?
