Hi, I would really appreciate your help in sharing with me a simple list or schedule for feeding and weaning cockatiel and by age as well. I got baby cockatiel as per the breaker it was 2.5 months and he gave me some formula saying just feed him once a day until formula is finished and so I did but after 3 weeks it died because I didn't wean it properly apparently I got upset about it and then I started watching many many videos about this and still didn't find a comprehensive schedule for feeding and weaning by age and what to feed I even searched on amazon for mellet and pellet but it very limited and hard to find so a product name as well would very much help. I am asking you because I can see you are sharing the information in a very good and easy to related Also what would really help is the formula combination, I saw is some videos some seeds or mellet are added in the formula? Please clarify this

This is their nature. The loudest one gets the most food, so they're always going to scream for more food. It's our job to make sure we feed them the correct amount and then put them back in a brooder. Kevin

Hi Tarra suggested that I seek your advice. So here goes I am currently incubating 7 cockatiel eggs, my babies don’t sit well. I currently have a five day old w/f incubator baby that I’ve been hand feeding. The egg that is in question was laid on July 17, yesterday at 3 PM I noticed to pip marks on both sides at the narrower end. No further progress has been made. I have candle egg & there is movement. I see slight red veins but i hear no peeping. The air cell looks normal from what I’ve researched How long before I should be concerned? I have read that if a chick internally pips, (in most cases) it will be strong enough to make it out of the shell. Do you think I would have to assist? Please help any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Question for you I'm having trouble transition from the same incubator you have. Once the egg hatch can I put him back with the parents? I lost 2 birds allready.. Reason I take the eggs out from the parents all my 3 females lay eggs on the same nest.. What do I do? Please advise and thank you for sutch a great videos had help me great fully.
@Bird.Squawk3 жыл бұрын
The only advice I can give you is based upon my experience. Once I pull a baby from the parents box I never put it back with the parents. Once I know that I'm going to take control of that baby I'm prepared to feed it as many times as I have to a day and completely take care of it and wean it myself. It's been my experience I've had very little luck with people trying to put babies back with parents. And not all parents are the same you may have a pair that does really really well for 2 weeks and then at that 2-week mark they're done they don't want anything else to do with them. You have other parents that will keep the babies for 3 weeks and at 3 weeks they're done they leave the nest box and they don't even feed the babies. So you have to learn what your breeders are doing and what your breeders are capable of. My best advice is to be prepared that if you pull a baby you're going to take full responsibility of it and be prepared for that. Thank you for watching our videos. Kevin

How do you know when to stop feeding altogether? I now have 3 birds, all flying, all eating seeds, and two being fed a small amount at odd intervals by their dad. They are 6 or 7 weeks old. I'm now feeding at morn and eve. Whenever I feel their crops (and I haven't just fed them) they are empty. But they 'forage' for seeds on the bottom of the cage pretty diligently.
@Bird.Squawk2 жыл бұрын
At that age I'm only feeding at night. I give them good food to eat during the day. I slowly start decreasing the amount of food I get be them at night. While monitoring for weight lose.

@@allandavis6116 It's been my experience that the parents will take care of only one clutch. They either will continue looking after their older chicks and abandon the eggs, or start incubating the eggs and not feed the older chicks. In my opinion those chicks are old enough to start weaning and eating on their own. I would pull them. Start the weaning process myself. Let the parents sit on the new eggs and not have to worry about feeding the older chicks. Just my thoughts. Keep me posted.
@allandavis61162 жыл бұрын
@@Bird.Squawk Yes, I'm keeping the chicks ? in a separate cage as there was the pecking problem when the parents plucked ALL the feathers from the top of the heads and necks of two of the babies ... and I started hand feeding those 2 then, the other 1 I had been hand feeding as she/he ? was kicked out early. So the parents have been doing their thing ... (a lot !) and now we see the results ... The plucking didn't begin until the birds had emerged from the nesting box, and while I saw it, it didn't register in my brain, and I let it go on for too long. This time I'll monitor like a hawk. From the point of noticing the plucking the parents were only allowed supervised visits which I monitored closely. The drama !

How do you keep your formula warm while feeding?
@Bird.Squawk2 жыл бұрын
First I make sure my tap water is over 120° F. Then I mix my formula with a correct ratio. Once the formula is mixed I test the temperature again to make sure that it is come down to 105° F if while feeding the babies the temperature drops below 105° F I grab another cup of hot water and place the original cup inside that water. That warms up the cup that they formula mixture is in. Hope this helps and thanks for the question.

All babies are going to be slightly different. The most important thing is to make sure that A they are getting food. And not losing weight. If you could monitor their weight then you'll know if you're feeding them enough. Some birds are slow, it takes longer for them to go through this weaning process. Remember the goal is to always keep food in the bird's crop. It only letting that crop go empty once a day. Watch a video that I just posted a couple videos ago It goes to all of this process. I think you will find it helpful. Keep us posted on how things are going, good luck Kevin.
