My birds just hatched 2 albinos . They are about 2 weeks old now and are adorable. Definitely red/pink eyes. Grandma is a all white cockatiel but I believe she has black eyes. Grandpa is a common looking one with lots of yellow and gray. But not a normal. The parents are a normal and a pearl... I have no idea how the genetics work, but I am definitely pleasently surprised lol 😅

My cockatiel babies are two days old and still with parents I'm planning to let them stay with parents until three weeks then pull and handfeed and wean. I heard its easier hand feeding older babies because they less delicate and that they'll end up just as tame as fully handraised but unsure whether that's wrong and the babies would make better pets if pulled now and fully handraised

@Bird.Squawk3 жыл бұрын
Yes, we can do something like that. Unfortunately its not that simple. See, what works for one bird may be different for another. What I can tell you is as a general rule you want the baby to always have food in their crops. Only let that crop empty once a day. So, keep your baby full all day long, Make sure its full right before you go to bed. it can go up to 8 hours on that last feeding. This insures the crop completely empties once a day. Feed the baby in the morning, no longer than 8 hours. Keep it fed all day and repeat again that night. This is what works for me. you may have to play around with the times for your baby. your baby may need food every two hours during the day, some will not empty as fast and can go longer. Point is you have to figure out each baby. hope this helps

This a battle we fight. When I feed I keep water near so I'm continuously wiping them off. when it gets dried on them around their face, you can at times crack it... DON'T pull it. Just try to gently break it up with your fingernail. Gently! is the key! Another method is to continuously putting small amounts of water on the food so that it softens up and then you can clean the babies face.

I wish I could have parents like that 😂 My question is, how do I do the switcheroo. I guess I'll just go on my instinct? I don't have a normal nest. They kind of took over one of my cabinets. I have my four cockatiels on guard. It's so precious but I really need to get these eggs out I'm starting to get concerned..
@Bird.Squawk2 жыл бұрын
@@LSV.Delight If I am understanding correctly the eggs are still with the parents at this point and you are asking how to get them out and put the fake eggs in? We usually do not have a problem retrieving our eggs, we find it easier to gather them after just filling the food and water bowls or offering the parents their favorite treat or snack. Our birds will tend to leave the nest for a few minutes at this time. Maybe try their favorite food to entice them out. We do not switch to fake eggs in our aviary, we would rather give them a break from sitting. If some of the eggs are over 30 days old then unfortunately they may not have been fertile or for some reason they did not make it. Once you have taken them out of the nest you can candle them to see which is the case. Cockatiel eggs take somewhere between 18 to 24 days to hatch. We have a video on candleing on the channel if you need help with that as well. If they are live eggs then when in the incubator we will rotate them a couple times a day up until about day 18, after that we let them be until they hatch. You will hear chirping sometimes for a couple days before hatching. Hope this helps but always feel free to ask questions!

Hey we have a 3day old baby cockatiel, we are watching your videos to learn how to feed ours. At first the air in their crop were okay but now its getting bigger even tho they dont have food in they crop. Any chance to how to let the air out? How to massage the crop?

Taking the air out can be done but can be very dangerous. you might want to seek an avian specialist for help

I'm sorry I'm available by phone. If you have questions, please leave them here. I try my best to answer them all. However I must admit I get a lot and that number is growing everyday.

Please stop breeding? There are now more birds in adoption places that have been abandoned than there are owners or homes. At least educate people on how to care for the birds, the challenges.

This is completely wrong. You should not hold the chicken tightly and do not make an instinctive movement. All animals and of course birds repeat the same movement continuously when eating involuntarily, but you hold the poor animal tightly just because a drop of food does not fall to the ground.
