Hand Forged Hunter

This knife turned into the Ivory Collared Hunter I made a couple weeks ago. Thought I would make a little video on the forging process. Definitely wasn't my best forging job but was fun making the video and the knife turned out great! Hope you enjoy the small video!

What kind of hammer and press do you use?

The power hammer is similar to the big blue but older and made by someone else. It use to be Burt Foster’s power hammer. The press is Coal Ironworks 25 ton with the beta controller

Can we call it hand forged when giant machines are used?

Depends on how much the machines do. I still have to shape and forged them by hammer and anvil so I call that hand forged. The big machines (for these can hardly be called giant) are mainly to take some of the more tedious parts of forging a knife out. They do those things more quickly and efficiently so I can do this for a living. More over one needs to know how to use those machines to good effect and manipulate steel under the hammer and press which is done by hand. I didn’t just stick the steel in and push a button and it did it for me. All that said I think there is merit to being able to forge a knife without the machines which I think is the intention of your question. Thanks for the comment!

@Curtis Haaland right, I don't have all the machines so I generally look for videos where they don't either. I type in hand forged and often find videos like yours. Still appreciate your craft but just saying, could be taken to be a bit deceptive.
