Very good. Doesn't using the welder without proctection damage your eyes though?

For tack welding you close you eyes for the split second you weld. It's a very common practice as you can position the parts exactly where they need to be. Kicking your helmet down will generally shift the parts and you can't be as precise. It's not ideal and you can get welders flash if you did it non stop for hours. You won't get hurt from a few dozen tack welds though.

Awesome work. A friend had temporary blindness for 3 days had to wear eye patches for a week. He thought his eyelids were enough when mig welding. Be careful please.

Welding and tacking are a different beast. I wouldn't lay down a bead without my helmet on, but it's impossible to get a precision tack without just using eyelids.

It's a wall section from an old metal backyard shed. Yeah I was using my Hypertherm plasma cutter. It cuts odd shapes quickly but also rounds the edges so there are no sharp things to get cut on.

Mig with c25( Argon 75%/CO2 25%). Tig would have been best or to just solder it.

Great video! I'm a beginner with my Hobart 140 and I cringed when you bare-handed the metal while the tip was hot. Didn't know you could do that without taking a shock. You ever use straight CO2 gas?

Thanks. I bare hand most of the time and have never received a shock in 20+years of welding. I will wear a glove on my non trigger hand if I'm going long runs but virtually never on my trigger hand. You loose to much dexterity and control. CO2 works great and is inexpensive. You just can't quite weld as thin of material, but you can weld thicker than Argon/CO2(C25)

You've never seen tack or spot welding then. You line it up, close your eyes and pull the trigger. It's an extremely common practice especially from people who learned to weld before auto darkening helmets were popular/cheap.

@@pinkladybikermamma3603 That's easy to say if you haven't spot welded before. You have full control of the precise moment the light starts and stops. You simply line it up and close your eyes the same time you pull the trigger, release the trigger and open your eyes.
