Yeah I don't really approve of eating octopus, but I gather from the news that there's an over-abundance of our eight-armed friends around the Cornish coast right now, so taking one for the pot (especially a kraken of the deep like that one) is more acceptable

@paulstemmet26262 жыл бұрын
Easy recipe popular in Spain. Large pot filled with boiling water, hold octopus by the head ( no need to be alive we buy frozen ones ) and dip the tentacles all the way into the boiling water lift up and dip again three times then put whole octopus in and allow to cook +- 30 minutes if a toothpick enters the top of leg easily it’s cooked. Here in Spain they put a large potato in with the octopus and when cooked, once cooled these are the sliced and plated on a serving platter the cold octopus tentacles then scissor cut in thin rounds and spread on top of the potato. A little salt and pimento is sprinkled on and a good sprinkling of olive oil and then enjoyed with cold frosty and crusty bread. The cooked octopus whole or legs freeze well so no need to run out at any time.

@@TheFishLocker and as I've said in previous videos several times I always love when you visit Jim. Got super excited when you said the octopus is going to Jim's kitchen I honestly can't wait for it

question john purely because im nosey , have you ever kept a note of the baits you put in your pots just to see if lobsters have a preference or if one bait catches more crabs than lobsters or maybe one bait is not worth the effort
@TheFishLocker2 жыл бұрын
Of course I have. 99% of what you see me do is the product of time and effort, experimentation and thought.
@johnhaylett36432 жыл бұрын
do hope i didnt cause offence john its just that my only experience of what goes into a pot as bait is from my childhood when i lived in cromer [60 years ago] when the commercial boys used any & everything so long as it was free or very very cheap as in well past its sell by date ,every thing from dogfish & roker down to smelts & butts .even read stories of long ago when they used fresh water bream when it was still legal

Hi John, have you seen Australian cray pots, they are made from cane and are round, not sure of legal regulations, but I wonder if they would catch lobsters as crayfish are quite similar. They look a lot lighter than your pots. Great vid as usual.

Can you send me a link to the Fishlocker workshop? I’ll take a look. 👍🏻🦞

Great vid as usual. Are there designated areas your allowed to put your pots down or can you put them anywhere and what stops someone taking your pots?
@TheFishLocker2 жыл бұрын
Nothing stops someone stealing your pots. Just morality.

I grew up in the fishing twin villages of Kingsand/Cawsand in the 70s and eighties after my first ten years in Bristol. I loved it when I was able to go out as a kid doing what you do, nets aswell , Progressed to bigger boats dredging etc but ended up as a lorry driver. My brother has just left the industry. Great video to watch,Ive subscribed. Odd Cornish accent though-which village ?

As soon as you said "stay down there and stay out of trouble" My brain goes. oh boi are there going to be trouble and later you pan down and there is an octopus tucked onto all the things it could I am just dying of laughter. Thanks for sharing your lobster pot adventures. Love em!

That V notch thing about swimming in circles is true. That's why haggis have 1 wing bigger than the other so they can fly circling around the top of the mountains.
@TheFishLocker2 жыл бұрын
Very clever. I didn’t know that about wild haggis.
