I have only had the use of 1 hand for the last 66 years and have been doing woodworking for over 30 years. I have changed many bandsaw blades and did setups it just takes a little longer with 1 hand. All I can say is a person can do anything they set their mind to but you do have to know your limits and in woodworking for me that is a lathe. I am very glad to see you on here and all the things you have accomplished

Thanks David for this really honest comment and feedback. Yes I totally agree about the lathe, certainly not for me either 💪😀👍

Thanks Paul. Planning the stages definitely made a difference as it felt like a sequence of small tasks as opposed to one huge unachievable one 👍

Not sure I’ve ever watched a KZbin video where I’ve rooted for the protagonist to succeed as much! Changing blades is a pig of a job with 2 hands so that was fantastic! I’m sure others have said as well but a magnetic featherboard should help and be easier than a mitre slot one. Sounds like the measurements offer could be due to the blade kerf? Great job buddy!

Well done Leo. If the blade slips off the wheels while you putting it on, use those small one handed spring clamps to hold it in place on the rims. It runs nice and smooth. Tony

Excellent job well done. When fitting when you get the blade set on the upper wheel hold in place with a small clamp till you get it aligned on the lower wheel. Hope this makes sense regards Allan 71 year old retired joiner🙂

😃 Nice job Leo. Its tricky enough changing the blade on my 14" Sip with two hands, so top brownie points to you for a great success. As Tony and some of the others below have mentioned, blade on the top wheel first and hold with a small spring clamp. And always remember, the blade is effectively a big sharp spring. If you force it it will just store that energy... and then do its best to release that energy and try to take bites out of you. I'm sure you already know that 😁. Great job Leo... and yes... I'm still jealous 😆. Stay safe mate 😁👍

@@Hand-i-Craft The best thing you did was to buy a bandsaw heavy enough so as to not have to hold it back when feeding the timber in.

Quality bit of kit there pal. All those adjustments you managed comfortably. A tribute to the ergonomics of the machine and your new found dexterity. In my two handed experience, i find it harder to fit a thinner more flexible blade that seems to have a life of it's own. Featherboards could be invaluable to improving the cut quality 👍🏻. I asked my mate for a UK holiday recommendation. He said Bournmouth was hard to beat. 🙄😢 What a come down in a week. YNWA ❤️

Didn't think you'd have a problem and I was correct in my assumption ... I think it'd have been a slightly harder job with regards guides if they hadn't been done in the way they were on this bandsaw ... chuffed for you 👍 Have you thought much about how you're going to actually perform the resawing? A sled or a feather board setup would seem to be the most obvious, basically something to hold the wood against the fence so that you can concentrate on pushing the wood through!

@@Hand-i-Craft Ah yes the mag-switch stuff actually looks pretty handy (no pun intended) ... I've seen them used in quite a lot of diy jigs ... I look forward to seeing how you get on 👍

Great job Leo, I liked the way you said that “today” you were going to setup the bandsaw, implying how long it might take you. But I was really disappointed with the setup part of the video, I was looking forward to seeing a speeded up video of you running round the machine, fiddling with knobs, levers, scratching your head, etc, all with manic music playing in the background 😂, but we got none of that, just a sensible simple setup of a well engineered machine. Such a pity !😂 And then at 7:17 to rub it on on your poor old Ferrex, it got used as a hanging stand for the Laguna blade. Poor little thing ! But seriously, looks to be a great machine that will transform your woodworking. The blade guides in particular looked to be a step up, much easier to setup and keep the blade in line than the Ferrex which can struggle to keep cutting straight with thick stock. I noticed on a recent John Malek video that he has exactly the same Laguna in his workshop, and he’s got some serious kit in his.

Great, interesting video Leo. Not at all surprised you managed it but I was curious about how you opened the coiled up blade in the first place. I only winced a bit with the push stick. Have you considered a sacrificial flat-fronted push to keep equal pressure both sides of the cut?
@Hand-i-Craft Жыл бұрын
The blade was straightforward to open pal tbh. A decent feather board I bought arrived today (just uploaded a shorts video showing it) and when I’ve got the money I’m going to buy some of those mag switch featherboards 👍👍
