I commented on another of your videos that I would NOT be making any wonky houses. However, it turns out, my resolve cannot withstand the charm factor you brought to the concept. I have not only made three houses so far, but I made a block with three rather questionable cabanas! Yes, I took your idea and pieced the bejeebers out of it -- not in the most successful way, but it is what it is. Now, I find myself waking up in the middle of the night wondering how many vehicles I can glean from my stash! Who am I?

I watch tons of quilting tutorials on KZbin, as I’m sure thousands of others do…however you really “stand out” and are definitely at the top of the list. I love your video out takes, your ease in teaching and your overall personality. You’re like the best friend or best neighbor kinda person! Always look forward to any tutorial from you, no matter the project.

Excellent tutorial! I have never hand-quilted any of my projects. So, I am going to make a wall hanging for my sewing room, and I will hand quilt it so that I can gain some experience. My husband's grandmother made quilts. She passed away several years ago, but I have the last quilt that she ever made, and I treasure it. All of her quilts were bed sized, and she hand quilted them all. She used a frame that lowered from the ceiling. It made the quilting process easier for her. Thank you for sharing your talent and wisdom with us all! 🪡🪡🧵

When I first learned quilting, I learned only learned hand quilting. I bit off more than I could chew. My first quilt was a queen size and doing it on my own I didn’t know anything about a quarter inch seam, squaring up the squares. I had my last child before it was sandwiched. Needless to say life got in the way of hand quilting. But I would volunteer at our towns grist mill every third Saturday of the month. It took me 15 years to finish it. But it’s mine and I love it.

Thank you for this! I get so 'in my head' about making perfect, tiny stitches and then end up too scared to work on the quilt. Your video and the 'just do it, you'll be great' approach has motivated me to get back to hand-quilting my hibernating quilt project tonight! 🥰

This is the first of your videos I have come across. But, it certainly will not be the last that I watch. You are a very talented quilter and giving clear instructions. And, I love your quilts. One tip I might offer you to keep your thread from knotting while you are quilting: thread the needle before cutting the thread. Then cut and knot the end of the thread just cut off of the spool. All threads are twisted; it is how thread is made. Threading the needle in the opposite direction adds more twist on the thread as you sew and you will end up with more unintentional knots that way. Also, if your thread is starting to twist as you are quilting, bring the eye of the needle to the fabric, and gently pull the thread a few times to release the twist. That way, you don't need to unthread the needle to release the twist.

I am absolutely terrible at machine quilting (mostly because I just don't have the time to practice), and hand quilting "needs" a frame or hoop, or so I thought. You have completely inspired me to try hand quilting this way. Now I just need to remind myself the ancestors will NOT come for my head if it isn't "perfect." Thanks SO much Nikki!

Just discovered this site last night. Love, love, love it! Thank you. I'm a fairly new to quilting. I've made several quilts by machine, and was surprised by the creativity it brought out of me. My sewing machine has been on the fritz for several months and I discovered hand-quilting, using up most of my scraps, and I save all scraps! It is, as you said, addictive! Because I've been enjoying it so much I have procrastinated having my machine fixed. I am looking forward to following your program.

Thank-you, i started quilting just over 10 years ago and haven't quilted any of my tops. Wondered how to go about it all. Got breast cancer and had to stop. Having come out the other end, with a messy house, i'm thinking what do I need to do first, apart from finding more energy. I'll have to find my thimbles, and see to my cat's tumour treatment. You made it look so easy, I will have to try that. I've got one quilt to tie, one to free motion, and i'll look at the rest again. I might do a small quilt for my cat, to practise on. How does it go on thin fabric? All the best.
