Yeah, this was the hard part that made me not make a pattern lol. I had the center and the corner blocks made. So then I measured the space and used paper to make a pattern and just drew the angle to meet. They don’t meet up exactly, so I wasn’t perfectly accurate, but I think it’s close enough!

I am happy to Subscribe because I love your style of teaching. I got an extra thrill when you pulled out that old folding ruler. I have my father's, who was born in 1905. So glad to have a reason to use it! Thank 😊 you

So it seems like you have to always have a straight edge upon which to sew your next piece?

I only have my son but I took care of my brother's 2 and his best friend, who was like another brother, daughter as well. So when they wanted to do something and I had my list of things I needed to do I would bargain for a trade. Usually they wanted to go swimming so who wants to vacuum, dust, and sweep? I would clean the bathroom, and everyone hated dusting so I would have to remember who did it last time and the got to use the swifter to sweep. (Most loved job, seconded was vaccuming.) They got to swim and I could mark off a few things from my list.

I also just upgraded from a Pfaff to a Janome that’s almost the same as yours. Mine is a 6700. Love mine so far! I hadn’t thought to see if the feet fit on both machines.

If it's something I haven't touched in 18months or more, I move it along. If I forgot about it and stumble upon the project, I tell myself, I have to finish it in 2 weeks or more it along. I generally have 5 quilts and /or sewing projects going, but all at different places, so that when I have time for a particular part of the process or am in the mood to do that part, I can get to it. I get in ruts if I work on the same project too long non-stop. As I finish 1, I can start cutting pieces for the next. Right now I am working through my stash. So every time I start a new project, as I am selecting my fabric, I reevaluate the stash and eliminate fabric I changed my mind about.

These look like sew mich fun! I am always afraid of not making my blocks perfect (it has kept me from finishing a baby quilt for a year 😢) and knowing that my quilt won't turn out just so. This is such a freeing way to sew and create. Thank you!😊❤

I could really get into the wonky quilting. The more I see it, the more I like it. As you flipped through your book, I was surprised at how modern some of the old quilts were. I always picture the more traditional quilt blocks when I think of old quilts.

One other tip I have come across in terms of making sure things are wonky/not too straight is to cut freehand with scissors instead of using a rotary cutter.

Nicki, I got so inspired by watching you today, that I went straight out to my sewing-space and made a wonky courthouse step-block, and turned it into a hot pad for casseroles. It has allready moved into my kitchen. I also have finally made myself a sewing space in what used to be our study/storage room, and used many of your tips and idas for a small sewing room. I am SO happy!! Thank you! for the inspiration !

What is this. Who am I. What have I become. This is addictive! I make clothing and now I have 3 quilt blocks hanging on my inspiration wall. 2 are courthouse steps. The work table was out of control. I need a Coke Zero. Good grief. This is the influence you have - well done! You're a fantastic teacher!
